Took myself out on a solo date and got curious to try Loam Bistro's pistachio French toast. It seems they've since replaced the original version (with pistachio crème and ice cream) with a seasonal pistachio strawberry French toast ($21). I also got an Americano ($4.50), which tasted alright. Having a tangier fruit like strawberry provided a nice contrast to the sweetness of the French toast. However, I found the pistachio sauce to be quite weak and milky, so I'd suggest making it more pistachio-forward. This is especially noticeable since they use milk bread rather than a richer option like brioche, which left the overall dish lacking the flavour punch I was hoping for. That said, I found their food and drink options more unique compared to a standard brunch menu, so I'd be interested in returning with a bigger group to try more items. Their Thai chocolate and pistachio latte sound especially interesting! read more

A bit hard to find, as we were looking for a larger sign. However they have a very artsy sign that can be missed. Its a very small spot, worth the wait if there is one (holds about 25ppl max). The vibe is japanese/asian/french type of food in our opinion. Everything we ordered was great, stuffed meatballs, truffle omelet, grilled cheese sloppy Joe, bone marrow omelet and 2 drinks total of about $140 without tip. We drove 30 minutes to get here and was worth it. Not familiar with the area we parked in a garage near the building which was $5/hour (made for the restaurant above). Apparently I forgot that I'd already tried the Earl Grey Blue Matcha. Again, was not impressed with it. Food overall was "meh" this time. Well, it was just me who ordered food this time. I was with someone who wasn't hungry and just wanted a drink. Meanwhile, I really needed some kind of breakfast or brunch in my tummy so I ordered the Dragonfruit and Cauliflower bowl. Wasn't super impressed with it. Also, would have been nice if it had been served with potatoes, or rice or some kind of carbohydrate. It was pretty, and OK tasting, but not blown away by it. Would have preferred the Avocado Croast but when I was told that the guacamole that comes with it has cilantro in it (awhile since our last visit so I had forgotten about the cilantro), I decided to choose a different dish. I came here for a late lunch. Google reviews show 4.7 stars with great comments. I ordered an earl grey blue matcha (decaf) and a dish of lobster egg Benedict. The blue matcha had a beautiful colour and pattern. It tasted interesting to me. It's not a typical matcha latte or regular one. It was not sweet which was good. The lobster egg Benedict was full of lobster meat. The chef used tobiko to decorate on the top of eggs. It was my first time to eat egg Benedict with tobiko. Tobiko added more flavours to the dish and elevated the presentation as well. The whole dish tasted wonderful. I highly recommend others to come. They can reserve tables online. I would like to come back and try other dishes. They were awarded as the best new restaurant in 2025. Customer server was great. Servers were polite, friendly, and attentive. The washroom was clean and tidy. I also love their interior design and brand colours. read more

Wow this place is out of this world good. It's like a small hole in the wall tucked between other businesses so it's super easy to miss. It's cozy and a great ambiance. I couldn't decide between the avocado croast and the French toast so I ordered both of them. The avocado croast is definitely an Instagramable piece of art - and incredible. Pressed croissant "toast" which is very crunchy and crispy. Amazing avocado flavour. Has a perfect poached egg - the yolk is so orange - with arugula around it. Oh and the French toast. This has to be like the best French toast I've ever had. Served in a bowl with pistachio sauce all around and strawberry compote on top, when you bite into the toast it is like a melted pillow. Sweet and so tender succulent it just melts, yet it is crispy on the outside. I'm not sure what they put on the inside but this is to die for! Definitely coming back! read more

This is an aesthetic brunch spot in North Vancouver near The Shipyards. We went on a Saturday for brunch 11:30am and it was not busy, but there was a small line for waitlist when we left at 12:45pm. It's quite beautifully decorated with plants all around, inviting an open environment. We got the pistachio French toast, bone marrow omelette, croque madame, anko matcha, and earl grey blue matcha. Pistachio French toast - pretty soft bread with a nice pistachio filling on top. I'm glad they could accommodate half order so we could try the dish without committing to the full order. Note full order is $20 but half was $12 so it's a little bit pricier Bone marrow omelette - pretty rich and flavorful. The scrambled eggs are nicely easy with some shredded beef inside. The toast was also great. Just keep in mind this dish is on the oily side. Croque madame - quite hearty with good amount of ham and eggs. The mustard is just the right amount, maybe a bit on the saucier side. I normally don't like mustard but this one hits the spot. Anko matcha - it's like a red bean matcha. Matcha is decent and the red bean pairs well. Only downside is that it's pricy - $9 Earl grey blue matcha - made like butterfly tea, but also has complexity of tea notes in it. It's quite aesthetically pleasing. Service is good and friendly. They fulfilled our requests in a timely manner and answered all the questions we had for the meal. read more

Another lovely place on the other side of north van. Not a big place but the food of tasty. The flat bread with prosciutto and hot honey was mouth watering and the crispyness was icing on top. This place needs to be put on the map and I guarantee by this time next year it'll be packed to the brim. The cutest vibes with the fresh plants and floral surrounded by pink walls and colourful aesthetic. The menu also knocks it out of the park and Loam is amazing on all fronts. The latke (potato pancake) could've used a bit more salt and I'd slather that dill sour cream sauce on it more but overall it was delicious and unique. My favourite menu item had to be the pistachio cream French toast paired with a pistachio mocha. Loam is such a gem in North Vancouver. It's super close to Lonsdale but far enough to not feel crowded and busy. We went on a Sunday morning and we got the last empty table. The place was full the whole time we were there but there wasn't ever a line. We ordered some brunch and brewed coffee. The food was super rich and delicious and definitely worth the trip. The only complaint is that the food took quite awhile to make. This was mostly understandable since they were busy, but it was a bit upsetting that we didn't get our regular brewed coffee any faster. They also asked how I wanted my coffee and I asked for cream, but when the coffee did eventually get to our table, I had to ask 3 more times before actually getting cream. This unfortunate detail definitely tainted my visit. The staff were very nice and friendly but I guess they need to be a bit more organized. Other than that, the space was very beautiful and full of plants. The menu and all their branding was beautifully designed and definitely made the place more charming :) read more

Came as a group of 2. We had to line up for a bit. Not going to lie, the line up situation is very messy. No list, not even on paper, everything is based on the server memory, could turn really bad in a very busy day. We waited for about 45 min as we were willing to sit on a bar, and right behind our seat there was a plants. A bit cramped for me and I'm not a tall person at all. I got the dineout menu, 3 dish for $28 which I think was good value. My friend ordered the regular menu, the salmon latcakes. Food was delicious but service could be better. So happy we made it here. They were out of a few things but also had a special salmon latkes that were so good. The bonemarrow omlette was beyond tasty and I was surprised to find yummy shredded beef in the omlette. Was so impressed!! The pistachio mocha is actually a latte and very good. The earl gray blue matcha was ordered half sweet and came out perfect and pretty. Not sure if you could really taste any Matcha, but I got a slight flavor of Fruit Loops cereal, maybe its just me lol. read more

Wifey saw this new establishment and wanted to try. We went late afternoon around 2pm. There were only 2 tables of occupied when we entered and the owner was serving one of the tables. She acknowledged we came in but was occupied so a short time later the cook a male which I assume is also an owner came out to seat us. Shortly thereafter the lady came and gave us some menus and two glasses of water. She explained things that weren't available on their menu due to the seasonality of them but did state the rest of the menu was available. Wifey and I didn't take long to decide. Wifey ordered the lobster scramble and also ordered pistachio french toast. As well as a hojicha latte(they source their tea directly from Japan) I ordered the lobster shell Mac/ cheese and a earl Grey blue matcha. The ambiance of the place is very bright with vibrant pastel palette, tables are clean and have small plants to bring some greenery inside. The food came and the plating is very nice, the taste is good as well. The lobster shell Mac/ cheese had a nice light flavor of lobster(no actual lobster meat that I could discern but I wasn't expecting any as the description said lobster shell so don't go assuming it's lobster mac/cheese)and you can tell had real cheese. It was creamy and slightly grainy at the same time if that makes sense. There was a breaded crust on top and some micro greens as garnishment. I enjoyed it as it wasn't as heavy as regular Mac and cheese tend to be and had a lighter taste profile. The macaroni was cooked perfectly and was al dente. The cast iron it was served in kept it hot during the entire meal and was a pleasant addition. Nobody likes when the Mac and cheese cools down and gets solidified. I didn't taste wife's lobster scramble but she did give me some nice large lobster meat chunks which paired nicely with my pasta. Wifey said the scramble was delicious and creamy. We were pretty full but had let the owner know we wanted the French toast at the end as a "dessert" the plating again was very nice. Tasting the French toast you can tell the pistachio topping was made with real ground pistachios, the center of the bread they used was nicely soaked with egg as you could tell my the moistness. It was very good but I was so full.. even so I kept nibbling at it. The owner then asked if we wished to try their matcha creme brulee, we were so full but wifey seemed to want to try everything this new establishment had to offer as some of the reviews she found were glowing. So we agreed and decided to not finish the French toast ab to take it home. When the brulee came out looked very nice with a center of sliced strawberries. We cracked the sugar shell then combined a spoonful with the matcha cream. Wow it was nice, light matcha taste paired with creamy texture and crunch of the sugar. Part if the top sugar was slightly thicker and had to be torched a bit longer which actually worked nicely. It had a deeper caramel taste and changed the taste of the mouthful slightly. Finally adding the strawberries to the mix elevated it again. Something about the small fruit bits in the mouthful changed the flavor profile again and I absolutely loved it. The hojicha wifey ordered was good and tasted as a real hojicha should. My earl Grey blue matcha was nice, had the slight grainy texture you usually get from matcha but leaned more towards an earl Grey flavor and I believe she said was caffeine free. It was light and comforting. Over all the meal was very nice and tasted good, the service was excellent as the owner lady would always come and make sure every thing was ok and asked how everything tasted. When dishes were completed she would come and ask to take them away and promptly did so. Would highly recommend as we will probably return to try some of their other dishes. read more

Brunch is typically monotonous and doesn't differentiate much from one basic spot to the next. That's where Loam Bistro sets themselves apart. A cozy, aesthetic vibe, the spot is not your typical sticky diner family brunch spot. It is where you bring the girls when you want a ladies weekend. The items on the menu are also not what you would find on the run of the mill brunch menus. They pull inspiration from global cuisines to put together a thoughtfully executed plate while the flavors could be more powerful. Friends recommended this quite new restaurant on Esplanade in North Vancouver and were we ever impressed. The food was exquisite in presentation, imagination and taste. One of the partners, Rahul, spent some time talking with us about his passion for great food and what a dream (and much hard work) was behind this wonderful restaurant.
