Bread Culture is one of my favorite bakeries in Vancouver, as it offers a wide variety of high quality pastries, both savoury and sweet. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The shop itself is clean, warm and cozy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff are very friendly and helpful as well. Since Beta 5 had stopped making cream puffs, I've been coming to Bread Culture instead as their mini choux puffs are fantastic. They also offer seasonal flavours and different items throughout the year, making each trip to the Dunbar area worth it! read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Aesthetic boutique bakery in the western Vancouver area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We went near closing and thought we'd be out of luck on variety but there's still one of some pastries that appealed to us, so we decided to give it a try and come back in the future for more pastries. We tried the pumpkin pie croissant which has the right balance of sweetness and the croissant is pretty buttery and flaky. Hands down, Bread Culture is the best bakery I've been to... and I've been to A LOT. From their croissants to their breads, everything tastes like it was made with real care. The pastries are flaky and buttery, the bread has a crust and chew that just hits differently, and I swear you can taste the freshness in every bite. The Apricot Danish was perfection: flaky, buttery layers with a bright apricot filling and a silky pastry cream that wasn't overly sweet. The Croquette Monsieur was rich and crisp. The crust on that was insane. Honestly one of the best savory pastries I've had. And the raspberry almond chocolate pastry? Deep chocolate flavor with just enough raspberry and almond to make it feel layered and special. Every pastry was actually crazy. I'm definitely going back to try every item. read more

Love this addition to the Dunbar area! They make such delicious pastries and bread and everything is a very reasonable price. The service was friendly and fast. I was able to get my sourdough nicely sliced to take home. I also stayed in for a bit to enjoy my pastry. We took a drive this morning to try out this bakery. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was already a small crowd of half a dozen people waiting by the door before the bakery opened at 0900 on Sundays but we were able to grab a table inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We tried out the cinnamon brioche buns and a lemon pastry with our latte and americano. My latte was rich and strong and I loved it. It's surprisingly not difficult to find weak lattes in Vancouver. The cinnamon bun was light and fluffy on the inside and the crust gave a slightly crunchy contrast. It was delicious. We saw a few patrons buying freshly baked baguettes and read the menu after we had come home to learn that they are traditional French baguettes. I need to go back soon for them! read more

4.5* Stiff! Stiff competition! Stiff competion for Japadog. In my humble opinion. If you like your wienie done in a very different style with a danish bedding, you need to try this. They only have one option of flavour for this unfortunately. Stiff competition for Beta 5 cream puffs. These are very good. See my pics. $3.50 each I know I'm coming back. Pricing is very reasonable. What a wonderful bakery for the Dunbar area. I heard the news that Bread Culture reopened in the Dunbar area, so I couldn't wait to visit the bakery after seeing the variety of baking goods on social media. Their baked goods were so appealing that it was hard to decide which ones to pick. We got the Caprese Danish, French Hot Dog, Pumpkin Crumble Brioche, Brioche Bread, and Almond Croissant. The French Hot Dog had a pork sausage topped with onion chips on a hot dog bun made from Danish pastry. The pickled red cabbage added a nice accent, and the Danish bun paired perfectly with the sausage. I really liked it. The Caprese Danish had fresh mozzarella, basil pesto, and roasted tomato on top of the pastry. I could taste the balsamic vinegar, which paired perfectly with the mozzarella and tomatoes. The combination of ingredients was perfect. I'll definitely get this one again. The Raspberry Crumble Brioche had a crumble that added a nice accent, and the brioche itself was soft and buttery. The Almond Croissant had a crispy dough, crunchy almonds on top, and a delicious filling. The Brioche bread had a buttery flavor and an incredibly fluffy texture--fluffier than any other brioche bread I've ever had. Overall, I really love this bakery. I want to try more of their different baked goods. I saw a cream puff that looked very good. I'll definitely be going back. read more

I think I had seen an ig ad or post about bread culture before my trip to Vancouver. I went with friends. The street parking nearby was pretty easy but there is new development in the works so not sure if that'll stay a reality. I split a apple pie choux, vanilla choux, croque monsieur, and Vanilla flan with raspberry croissant. While getting myself a monkey cinnamon croissant to take home. The choux were all very solid. Not too sweet and evenly filled. The Croque monsieur was the stand out. It's like an elevated ham and cheese croissant and it was delish. The Vanilla flan with raspberry croissant is reminiscent of a egg tart. It wasn't bad but didn't stand out. The monkey cinnamon croissant is dense and good but I've had better. Overall I would say this is a solid bakery. They make a fairly solid laminated pastry. It's not the best I've ever had to but it's solid. It doesn't have particularly long lines and has interesting offerings. As someone who isn't local, I'm not likely to stop by again but I think it's worth trying everything if you are local. read more

Secretly tucked all the way in Dunbar is this cute little pastry shop that @breadculture.ca that makes some of the most impressive croissants out there! It was my first time ever seeing a hotdog croissant and it was one of the most elevated hot dogs I had yet! And it certainly made me question why nobody else have thought of this before! Hot dog inside buttery, flakey goodness! Amazing! Every single pastry we tried was flakey, unique in flavour and so beautiful! Aside from croissant they also have choux and fresh loaves of bread which are very popular amongst its local neighbours too. A line up quickly formed in the morning for this place an hour from opening so I world recommend coming early if you like to grab a table to enjoy the pastries there. read more

This place is fantastic! It's a great addition to Dunbar. The staff are all lovely, friendly and patient as you spend forever ogling the yummy treats! Everything is baked fresh and tastes like it. The danish's are my personal favourite with second place being their pain au chocolat. However, the loaf sourdough and cream puffs are fantastic as well. Coffee is great too! Definitely a spot to check out. read more

This is a gem of a bakery & café located on Dunbar at W. 39th Ave! It is a bright & airy cozy space, with some outdoor tables & chairs. There is a bus stop out front & ample free parking on the surrounding streets. The baked goods are of amazing quality & originality! When the weather is warm, my favourite savoury danish is the Caprese, consisting of flaky pastry topped with creamy mozzarella, roasted cherry tomatoes marinated with garlic & herbs & topped with balsamic vinegar. When it gets colder out, the Croque Monsieur is great: pastry topped with gouda cheese, béchamel sauce, Canadian bacon & jalapeño. The owners, Sunny & Thomas, do not shy away from being creative, as well as offering tried & true standards. They are passionate about what they do & it shows. This drink has the perfect mix of that passion fruit punch, with the bubbles of soda from the sparkling water, sweet chunks of aloe vera, and that creamy touch of the vanilla cream. You also get the passion fruit seeds mixed in with pearls (if you order their amazing pearls) and it's seriously the BEST drink. You won't be disappointed. I've had the chance in months pass to try the matcha strawberry with strawberry chunks and it was amazingly delicious too so my top two recommendations are the Matcha Strawberry or the Passion Fruit Vanilla Float! I still need to come by for breakfast but the waffles and macarons I've had here have been delightful.

The bar is made up of high quality small batch grinders, perfect for grinding fresh for each cup, and a long line of pour over setups to give each cup the attention it deserves. Behind the bar you can see an Aiden by Fellows for quick batch brewing quality beans to the standards of the specialty coffee association or quick recipe testing. The menu is predominantly descriptions of the coffees they're currently brewing with a few classic and simple coffee preparations like a latte and a cortado, but nothing too involved because they focus on the coffee itself. I really liked how they separated the coffees by flavor profile so you could key in on the type of beans and roast you prefer. They offered several natural, honey, and anerobic options, which made me happy. My friend isn't a coffee geek like I am, so it was fun to see which he gravitated to and enjoy that alongside my choice, which was totally opposite. We were charged $25, not the $20 we were originally told when the 64-oz pitcher showed up, with the explanation that the regular price was $35 and that we had "saved" money. In the end, we were served twice the beer we wanted and paid twice what we intended, based on information that kept changing. Whether this was incompetence or intentional, it left me feeling frustrated and uncomfortable. The food and atmosphere really were great -- but the experience was overshadowed by feeling manipulated. Enjoy the food and beer, but pay close attention to what the wait staff tells you and what ends up on the bill.

As much as I wanted to try several flavors, I had to tell myself to order just one because there were other desserts at the market I wanted to try. I decided to go with the Honey Dip donut. It looks like a regular glazed donut, but there was something special about it. It was really, really good. The donut was incredibly soft, and the dough had a dense, chewy texture that I really enjoyed. It reminded me of a Krispy Kreme Original Glazed donut, but bigger and less sweet. It was such a great treat, and I'm glad I finally got to try it.

Not cheap by any stretch of the imagination but that thang was damn good. Soft, fresh, and sweet. It hit exactly like a treat should after walking around the area. Customer service was nice, quick, and straightforward. I just grabbed one since I had already eaten lunch, but honestly I wanted more. I had to stop myself. If you're in the area, treat yo self!!!! Unless you're feeding an army cause really, $35 CAD for a dozen donuts is crazy.

This place was located in an area that would be best to walk with a friend or a small group- I was not quite prepared to see and experience what was going on all around. Finally, we made it there and were glad to order some doughnuts. As soon as we entered, we were greeted by the sweet smell of doughnuts and the two friendly staff. Everything looked so good, so narrowing down our pick was very hard! At the end, we ordered two flavours- Matcha and Tiramisu. The matcha doughnut was soft and the filling was light yet full of matcha flavour that one would expect, I loved every bite! My friend had the tiramisu doughnut and she said that she enjoyed the fluffy texture of the dough and the creamy filling- it felt like eating tiramisu in a doughnut form. If you love simple yet high quality ingredients, this place is the perfect place to get your sweet cravings fixed!

Flavor was maple and representing Canada! Green colored sponge reminded me of soccer fields, and cute soccer ball chocolate on the top of donut. Maple cream filling was light, not overly sweet and delicious. It was very good item to bring watch party with family or friends. Highly recommend!

I stopped by The Lobster Man while exploring Granville Island Public Market…read more It's a small spot with no real place to eat inside, so plan on grabbing your food and finding a seat somewhere around the market. Service was kinda blah, they said the words but weren't friendly like teens forced to do something (I don't think they were teens btw). I ordered the warm lobster roll and a prawn cocktail. Unfortunately, the lobster roll was a letdown. It wasn't very warm, the lobster itself didn't have much flavor, tasted off and the whole sandwich was just kind of dry. Thank goodness I also ordered the prawn cocktail because it saved the meal. It wasn't anything fancy, but the prawns were a good size and gave me something I actually halfway enjoyed. Overall, I didn't have the experience I was looking forward to.
