We came here because we were staying in the nearby Sandman Hotel and it was a convenient place to pick up some pastries before heading out for the day. My European bf absolutely devoured the baguette, as in, he didn't even put anything on it, just ate it plain. He's very picky about bread so this says a lot. He's also said that the strawberry danish was amazing. I had the ham and cheese croissant which was good, as well as a pastry I can't remember the name of that had Bavarian custard in it. Made a quick stop to this shop before visiting a nearby coffee shop. I was really excited to try their bread, but we only bought a few items because we were only there for a short visit. The sourdough bun was amazing, it is soft and chewy. Since it is fresh, it is still a little crispy. If you love sourdough then I definitely recommend it. The apricot delight was an amazing choice as well. The bread itself is made of wheat flour, so it is nutty and has a nice aroma. It got a great soft and chewy texture. The dried apricots adds a great sweetness to it. My mom really enjoyed the plain white bun, it was simple and has a great earthy taste to it. I wished we had more time in town to try other options. The staffs were very friendly and helpful. The store is small and cozy. There's no seats in store, it's grab-n-go place, so plan your trip accordingly. read more

I went around 10AM and there was one person ordering and a few more entered while I was there. I ordered a cinnamon bun with icing and a spinach and feta filled croissant. The cinnamon bun was a large bun with lots of icing that stayed on the bun and not in the paper bag. The croissant was nice and flaky and tasty with the spinach and cheese. It tasted fresh and likely better to buy in the morning. They had lots of selection of delicious looking baked goods. If I lived near by, would definitely stop by often! read more

It's a good thing I don't live near one of these awesome bakeries at home or I'd soon double in size like a rising yeast loaf. I can walk here in minutes from where I'm staying and that's dangerous. There's nothing like a fresh danish right out of the oven, still warm but soft and crisp and buttery. The dry climate here helps to keep pastries crisp and not limp and soft like in Hawaii, so they're actually still good for days (fat chance of that happening). Of course I also bought some of the little mushroom cheese flat rolls for lunch - salty and yummy and OMG! How many am I allowed to eat? After devouring my blueberry danish in the morning I came back in the afternoon and loaded up with more goodies for a tea party the next day. Got extras so we'll have plenty of leftovers, hehe. Both times I went the staff were friendly and patient as my eyes devoured everything on display and I fondled packages of fresh rolls. They share a street address with Starbucks so don't get lost. read more

We've been going to the Davie Street Cobbs location, on and off, for years and years. It has never let us down. Recently I was diagnosed with severe diabetes........ and after a lot of label reading and research, determined the Cobbs Cape Seed bread would be the very best option for me..... even over health breads available in grocery stores. We've been in a number of times lately, and have always been greeted almost immediately by a fellow named Ronell. Friendly and knowledgeable best describe Ronell. He slices my loaf of bread as thin as possible....... Which is absolutely great for me. We've also been purchasing the Cape Seed buns....... Oh so good, and great for sandwiches. We are enjoying our Cobbs bread immensely, and truly enjoy the great service provided by Ronell........ a true asset to the Cobbs Davie Street location. read more

I bought a sour dough roll that other server was offered me they can slice in the machine and that was why i knew they can slice the bread so I asked the same as usual and this server said they can only slice the loaf of bread‍. I love how fresh bread smells. I'm such a sucker for that smell. And, I can't help loving Cobs' seedy, country grain bread (thick sliced). It is a household staple. I even keep an extra loaf frozen...just in case the 5 minute walk is just too excruciating. I usually end up caving to a craving for a hot cross buns, a scone (sweet or savory) or a croissant. The only thing that really lacks at this Cobs is getting that overly friendly service I have experienced at other locations. The Kerrisdale location comes to mind. There, you'd think you stepped into small town circa 1959 where people tip their hat to you and comment on the corn fields...I digress. read more

I am a bread addict, and pretty much have to stop in every bakery I waltz past. Cob's was no exception, and I was seduced in by the shelves lined with starchy goodness. The ladies behind the counter were a bit apathetic but not at all unfriendly, and I decided to test the waters with what I consider a standard for measuring quality - a demi baguette. When the woman handed it to me, I was almost shocked at how heavy it was! Cob's is not messing around when it comes to bread. The baguette was good, but nothing special. Dense, chewy, with a bit of toughness to the crust (I prefer a crunch personally, but this was a bit more rubbery than I would have preferred). Still, nothing particularly wrong with it, and at $2.35, perfectly affordable. Would I go out of my way to make a trip here? No, but if I was hankering for a carbo-fix and walking by, I'd definitely consider Cob's a good option to snag a snack. read more

We stayed at the hotel just a few step away from Cobs and we got pastries for breakfast every morning! We even went in for an afternoon snack a couple days because it's just that good! The focaccia bread, cinnamon rolls, chocolate (and raspberry/chocolate) croissants, scones (especially lemon/blueberry and raspberry/white chocolate), and the danishes were all amazing! We couldn't get enough. The customer service was OK. Nothing exceptional, but the food made up for it. The staff could just be a little more welcoming and friendly. Absolutely adore cobs bread. They make fresh bread and have a stamp card for buying whole loaves. Their products don't disappoint and they are all fresh. I love their scones and buns. The service is always top notch they are really on top of the lines so it doesn't feel like you need to wait long. Only thing I'm not a fan of is the amount of plastic used if you don't bring your own bags and even if you do all the loaves are put into plastic. I'm trying to reduce on waste so it makes it hard to shop here. :( read more

Nothing beats a freshly baked loaf of bread. I always buy the Vienna sourdough and get it thick cut. I keep a few slices on the counter in a bag and the rest I freeze and take out when needed. The bread is under $5 and it smells so fresh and tastes delicious! I also like their chocolate croissants too for $2.75. Absolutely decadent! Service is always cheerful and fast. I love Cobs Bread. Sadly today though, I received some of the crappiest service ever, which is why I am only rating it two stars. Here's how my transaction went down. I eyeballed one last apple & walnut scroll, and walked up to the counter to order it. The lady completely ignored me and was staring at the BF. I looked at the BF, looked back at her, looked back at the BF.... confusion slowly building. Then she said to the BF "hey look at your jacket, have you been to the Art Gallery?" WTF? Am I invisible? The BF tried to steer the conversation back to my order, but she STILL ignored me. Then she wanted to know what his order was, without even attempting to fill mine, or acknowledge the fact that I had ordered already. The BF ordered a cheesy mite, and her response was "do you know what that is?" Ummm.... yes. Then I tried to re-order and she responded rudely "we don't have any left." By this point I was pretty frustrated, and I was like "yes you do, I can see it in the display case." Then she tried telling me that it was too small to sell. Seriously??? Do I have to take this lady down to get a freakin' scroll?? She FINALLY let me have it, and yea she did give it to me for a discount because she kept going on about how small it was (which I really didn't even care about, sometimes size DOESN'T matter.) The scroll was delicious, sweet and exactly what I needed, but the service was pretty much the worst I have had in a long time. I usually go to the Main street location, and after this encounter, I will probably keep it that way. read more

First time at this location, however, long time fan of the bread place. I really like their Bap Bread. It is one of their best bread buns. I like to buy a dozen each month which still stay soft in the fridge. I use this as a side bread for my chilli or for my PB J sandwich. The dusting on it can get a little messy, therefore, I do not recommend wearing black while eating this otherwise you will get powder all over you like a scene from Scarface. read more

I do not eat bread regularly but the Cape Seed loaf is really delicious. It's worth the price. The hamburger buns are tasty and the pane di casa bread is just crusty enough. I give them credit for adding new products quite often which most bakeries do not do. Of course it is easier to bear that financial risk when you are part of a chain. They donate what is left at day's end to community groups, low income seniors housing and charities. Nik has such a joyful smile that he is a real asset to this store. read more

HOW A GREAT DAY WAS RUINED BY THE LADY BEHIND THE COUNTER. Finally the sun was shining in Vancouver and we decided to go to English Bay. Swim, tan, and have a picnic. We would buy some baguettes at the bakery, and cheese, salami, etc. at the deli. Our first stop was at the Cobs Bakery. Two of them were behind the counter, a guy and an older lady (Short gray hair with glasses). I choose what I wanted and I asked her "Could you please slice my baguettes horizontally?" to which she replied all snappy "DON'T YOU HAVE A KNIFE AT HOME???" For a second I didn't know what to say, and just responded that I was going to the beach. Then she looked at the other guy working (who was kindly helping other customers and yelled: "DO YOU KNOW WHERE IS THAT KNIFE???" He just looked at her and responded "It should be next to you" (Which it was) Then I responded "If it is too much trouble I can just leave" She didn't say anything but just cut my baguettes and charged me. Before I left I ensured that I told her how unhappy I was, and how I didn't appreciate her snappy comment, although she pretended she didn't hear me. And that how a great day, was ruined by the lady behind the Cobs Bread Counter. read more
