My favorite season has arrived - Vancouver croissant crawl festival! I visited TERA Bread in Granville island. What I got: Maple Pecan Twist Croissant buttery croissant dough twisted around a sweet maple pecan filling with toasted pecan pieces, finished with a glossy maple glaze. Buttery, nutty and sweet. In Granville island, outside of public market, I wanted to take photo of this croissants with view, when I was taking photo, seagulls attacked me and grabbed my croissant and left. She was so fast and quick. I froze, other people around me froze, and literally no words... Then, I was so upset and went back to shop and get another one. Staff was so kind, she gave me discount. I really appreciated that. So, for second one, I took photo inside of car. Croissant itself was very good! Maple glaze and toasted pecan paired so well and dough was nicely crispy. Spacious seating area with lots of daylight from the high ceiling windows. I love Terra bread especially their black olive bread. I feel so sad they choose green olive bread over the black olive bread and now black olive is no longer available. We visit the shop today hoping to get the fig and anise bread but apparently it's seasonal so they don't have it today neither. Overall a solid bread maker with good sour dough based bread. Latte is normal. read more

Loved the blueberry bread (light and subtly sweet) and sourdough! Would definitely recommend grabbing a few items and then sitting outside to enjoy these freshly baked goods with the ocean breeze. There are also shops where you can buy cheese next door. Next time I will be sure to try the walnut sourdough. Staff were very friendly. read more

Their cruffin (croissant and muffin) is so freaking delicious! Flaky, just about the right amount of sugar. The creme icing feels more like cheese icing, which is very fitting and delicious. read more

We had a little time to kill before our whale watching tour so we stepped into the Granville Public Market for a quick bite. My wife usually gets seasick so we figured some bread would be a good idea. I checked on Yelp and this place was highly rated so we picked up a ham and cheese croissant and a brioche roll. And then we took them outside to take these pics to capture the wonderful view as well as the food. Unfortunately, the view was much better than the food. I have had some really good ham and cheese croissants and this was not one of them. I think a good croissant should be flaky and crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. These may have been from the day before because they were not flaky on the outside or fluffy on the inside. The ham and cheese were also not memorably flavorful. The brioche was pretty good, which is why I gave 3 stars. read more

This is a limited review as I've tried only one item here - the Blueberry Bread with white chocolate - yum, yum!! Loaded with blueberries, the friendly staff told me it's one of their best sellers. With a bit of white chocolate also, I thought the Can$4.50 price is a good bargain. I sure couldn't find anything of this quality at this price where I live. This location is inside the Marketplace building amongst the many structures within the Granville Island complex. Though there are at least 3 other bakeries in the same building, this place seems to be holding up well against the others. I'm looking forward to trying more items. read more

The breads on display just look so good, and it's hard to pick just a few! The employee is super nice and efficient. I ended up getting a potato dill focaccia and a grape bread. The breads all tasted flavorful and fresh. The stand is hard to miss on Granville island. There were a bunch of baguettes, savory breads, and sweet breads. I had eaten one and saved the other for later, and I wished I had gotten more. Till next time! This is definitely a stop I'll be coming back for. read more

I really, REALLY enjoyed this place. I got the Toasted Pecan Cinnamon Bun and the Tomato Pesto Focaccia. The use of the brioche bun for the cinnamon bun really elevated the entire sweet and it was incredibly soft and delicious. I opted to have cream cheese icing on top and I'm glad I did. It was a nice little addition and the combination of the bun and the topping never felt overly sweet and I devoured it in only a few minutes. Also there are pecan baked into the bun, not just on top! This was the first time I tried a Focaccia and I was impressed with how flavorful it was. The outer crust that didn't have any topping was harder and had a strong crunch but was still good, but boy, once I got I to the meat of it, it was phenomenal. The juicy tomatoes splashed in my mouth as the strong pesto complimented the bread and tomatoes for a perfect bite each time. As much as I enjoyed the cinnamon bun, I'd probably skip it next time I come here but definitely get the tomato pesto focaccia. These people sure know how to make a decent croissant. So much better than those crappy ones you get at the grocery store. The breads I got there were also divine. Bonus: They slice on request. If I lived nearby I'd be a frequent flyer and much fatter. read more

I like Terra Breads cheese loaf and I get if from Safeway stores. On some instances they fail to deliver and the reasons are very strange and suspicious. This morning I went to the Burnaby Heights Safeway and usually they have 2, sometimes more. This time there was only 1 and a store employee said that is all they could do because of the snow. Really? The roads were clear so how could no snow disrupt bread production. WTF?! The employee was sarcastic and I told her Terra Breads is like what. They get rather weird at times . On my way home, I checked Whole Foods Burnaby and they had three loaves. So how come a significant grocery store like Safeway gets one loaf and another grocery in the same area gets 3? This is the kind of problems I have had with Terra Breads and complaints to head office gets no satisfying response. read more

I decided to try this bakery because there was a long line. I had the almond croissant and the parmesan chive scone. The almond scone was not as flaky as I had hoped. The filling was too sweet for my liking. I liked the parmesan chive scone more. It was light and not too savory. I couldn't taste the chive so it tasted like a parmesan scone. read more

If you are watching your carb intake, avoid. If your weakness is yeast breads, sweet buns made with figs and an assortment of ingredients, this is your place. They make an awesome yeast bun with fresh blueberries from British Columbia. It's in the enclosed market area. Their sticky toffee buns looked decadent! read more

There are a number of notable bakeries on Granville Island including Siegel's Bagels and Lee's Donuts. However when it comes to artisan bread, Terra Breads is the place to go. Terra Breads is located inside Granville Island Public Market. It can be found on the food court side of the complex on the left. Terra is part of a chain, but this location doesn't have a café. Just breads and pastries. One of the reasons for visiting Granville Island on my trips to Vancouver is to pick up a slice of the excellent pate at Oyama Sausage. Nothing goes better with pate than bread, so I visited Terra in search of some. They have many varieties to choose from. I decided to go with the standard demi-baguette. The pastry selection here is also wonderful so I couldn't resist getting one of the blueberry bread pastries. What I noticed about the baguette is that the loaf keeps its softness well, unlike most baguettes that tend to get stale after a day or two. Even after three or four days, I was surprised by its longevity. The bread itself is quite tasty. I would recommend it if you are using it to make a sandwich or eating it with some charcuterie. The blueberry bread was also a bit of a surprise. I wouldn't characterize it as a complete pastry. It is more of a hybrid between bread and pastry. The chewiness reminds you of the bread, but the blueberry topping and sweet ingredients are of a pastry. If you are looking for an offering that is unique, the blueberry bread fits that bill. When it comes to artisan bread on Granville Island, Terra Breads is the place to go bar none. read more

Scones are usually not my favorite kind of baked goods. The ones from Terra Breads are an exception. We walked by their place at Granville Island Public Market, and everything in their display looked great. Being that I already had my hands full with all the food we had already purchased, I was not going to buy anything here. Fortunately, our Aunt wanted their scones. Really nice customer service! I mentioned that I'm lactose intolerant and the cashier literally pulled out a binder of all the ingredients in the items and informed me which ones were dairy free. I really wanted to try the blueberry bread but it has white chocolate and milk, so I instead tried the fig & ginger scone (all scones are dairy free). Their breads are very good. I tried their baguette and sourdough. Both were flavorful, soft and fluffy on the inside and crispy golden brown on the outside. I also treated myself to their almond croissant. It was probably the best almond croissant I'd ever had. The croissant was so flaky and buttery. It was not overly sweet and the almond flavor was very prominent which I loved. You may think they are a little pricey but after you taste their breads and baked goods you'll understand why because you can taste the quality of their ingredients. If you are ever visiting Granville Island Market, make sure to check this place out. read more

If I ever become allergic to bread, I would have to hold a funeral for the part of me that died a little inside. I remember one of my friends who was so insistant that I pick up bread from Terra Breads for a party. When I couldn't get off work in time, she told me she would take care of it and drove from Coquitlam to Granville Island. I thought at the time, are you serious? She made me put it in the oven to warm it up too. Come on, girl! Let's just eat, I'm hungry! However, when I first bit into that gorgeous crust and chewy middle, I was hooked. One item, Blueberry Bread. Blueberry Bread is probably the most delicious pastry I have ever had in my life! I don't live in Vancouver anymore, as I'm currently in New Orleans, and I have searched and searched and searched for something similar. No luck... Sometimes, La Boulangerie has a blueberry danish which is very tasty as well, but it's not the same, and they only make it at random times. We took a criuse ship up to visit Vancouver last weekend and took a trolley ride to tour Stanley Park, then went cross the river by a short ferry to visit this bakery in a public market similar to the Pike Place in Seattle. The focaccia breads are simply excellent! I bought a loaf filled with olives, just absolutely delicious. The samplings are generously offered and are very tasty ! Great with the organic coffee down the aisle! Love this place! read more

Picking up a loaf of artisan bread is an easy way to add a touch of class to any meal. The bread from this bakery, located in the food court area of Granville Island's Public Market, is fresh and made with some creative ingredients. The rosemary and the olive breads are my favourites. The staff is helpful and I love it when they offer to slice the loaf for you. It always comes as a nice surprise, since I usually forget to ask. But they have this cool machine that cuts the loaf into perfectly spaced slices in no time flat. It makes it that much easier if you're serving bread to guests at a get-together. Their Pecan Fruit Crisps are also delicious. They are toasted thin slices of pecan fruit loaves and a super-chic take on the cracker. They are a huge hit with soft, spreadable cheeses. read more

Still the best bread in the city. All of their breads have a delicious crunchy crust on the outside and are soft and pillowy on the inside thanks to the stone-hearth oven they bake the breads in. I always get the cheese bread. Can't resist. Great value for your money. 1 loaf of cheese bread, 2 mini focaccias (try the potato & dill!), a caramel pecan cinnamon bun and an oatmeal raisin cookie came to about $17. read more

Love, love, love the blueberry bread here. It's dense, but not dead, if you catch my drift. The texture is chewy but not tough. Overall sweetness is just right. Another bread worth getting is the green olive loaf. It's crusty but the inside is pillowy soft and studded with juicy olives. Prices are reasonable, you get what you pay for. read more

I was there early at 10 am-ish, and from the outset, I was impressed: exposed brick wall, long counter and display case, fully stocked with the most beautiful pastries and tarts and cakes, and lovely looking sandwiches, too....Just lovely. I ordered a tea from the guy taking the orders. At the check-out, the woman working the cashier was the most unfriendly, aloof person I have ever encountered at a Breka. She was downright dour. Never looked up, never smiled, said I owed X for the tea I ordered, gave me a receipt and said I was "number 3", no "thank you" (despite my saying thanks!), nothing. She looked really unhappy and bothered to be there. (I sat at a nearby table, waiting for my number to be called. I saw her interactions with all the people behind me - and there were quite a few, as it got suddenly busy in the cafe. She was cold and unfriendly to everyone in line as she rang them all up. These are mostly tourists! Why have a dour, borderline-hostile woman at the check-out counter of a busy cafe in a touristy part of our city? I just don't get it). Anyhow, I waited 10 minutes to hear my number called, but I never heard it. I walked up to the take-out area and there was my tea, on a receipt that said "number 3". Did they call out my number? I honestly don't know. I was seated at a table a few feet from the area and listening for my number and I didn't hear it called. I was not impressed with this set-up. Not at all. Gary's only allows to order the fresh mango cakes up to one week ahead to ensure they have enough ripe mangos, which I admire their dedication. We ordered the 6 inch cake for 9 people (7 adults and 2 kids) and everyone got a thin to average slice. The cake is definitely prettier than the other fresh mango cakes on the market, has a lot more mangos that are perfectly ripe and sweet, there is less wipped cream, and the sponge cake is softer. The family agreed that Gary's has the best fresh mango cake but at $69 for a 6 inch cake, versus $43 for a 6 inch mango cake from Saint Germaine, a cake from Gary's is definitely a treat and for special occasions. Is Gary's worth the premium price? I think so but not everyone in my family agreed. One thing to note: Gary's do offer cake in a jar that's $8.50 each. When we went, they had a BOGO deal with the mango cake jars. My nephew asked my sister to buy the BOGO deal knowing that the 6 inch cake was not going to be enough, as the kids like having a second slice of cake.

At least you can do is reply back and apologize? For wasting time when I specifically told you it's for family and friends flying into town for a funeral burial. Will never use their business again. I highly suggest Mello. They replied and helped me out last minute. Shame on you! Learn how to run a business and treat customers esp previous customers who were supporting the business and fellow Krn but it's clear the new owner doesn't care about the customer or quality it's all about quantity. Maybe my 39 donuts which I offered to pay extra for time and packaging wasn't large enough but money is money. Especially during this time and economy. You should've at least replied back and even tried asking us to do pickup as the restaurant is down the road. Do better! The server apologized for the mistake, and I let it go, thinking we didn't have to drink it all. However, when the bill arrived, the price didn't match the quote. We were charged $25, not the $20 we were originally told when the 64-oz pitcher showed up, with the explanation that the regular price was $35 and that we had "saved" money. In the end, we were served twice the beer we wanted and paid twice what we intended, based on information that kept changing. Whether this was incompetence or intentional, it left me feeling frustrated and uncomfortable. The food and atmosphere really were great -- but the experience was overshadowed by feeling manipulated. Enjoy the food and beer, but pay close attention to what the wait staff tells you and what ends up on the bill.

Thank goodness I also ordered the prawn cocktail because it saved the meal. It wasn't anything fancy, but the prawns were a good size and gave me something I actually halfway enjoyed. Overall, I didn't have the experience I was looking forward to.
