Had one of the worst lunch there today. We ordered a couple of lobster Benedict. That was the worst egg Benedict I ever had. Mushy muffin, tasteless and watery hollandaise and the lobster was beyond recognition: shredded pieces of over-boiled, bland unseasoned shellfish. For appetizer the warm Brie was not even baked, just a microwaved piece of cheese on some arugula with almost no dressing, a few un-toasted pecans and some pieces of dried fruits. We'll, after a few bites we just paid, got up and left to go get a decent lunch somewhere else. Avoid this place. read more

Bagatelle is a classy seafood restaurant in Key West's historic seaport district. Not to be confused with other Bagatelles you May be aware of, this one is pure restaurant with no bar or club. The ambiance is chic, and the service was professional, though we did need to wait 20 minutes after our reservation to be seated because they were running behind ("island time" I guess). They have indoor options as well as some outdoor tables on the balcony, which give a fun view of roosters in the trees. It can get a bit hot and muggy, though. The food was just ok. The appetizers were so-so without much flavor. The swordfish had a nice, tender texture but was also lacking in flavor. The key lime pie was quite good, though with an obscene amount of merengue. Overall an alright option for a fancy meal out. Not my preference for flavors, but your mileage may vary. read more

My family spent a week vacationing in Key West. After we returned home we were reflecting on our adventures and remembering how much fun we had, and we agreed that our dinner at Bagatelle was our best meal and overall restaurant experience. The service was top notch and our food was delicious. Our son has a peanut and an egg allergy, and our server was diligent in communicating this to the kitchen and reassured us as each dish was served what was safe and what was not. We also had a goal of trying at least one serving of Key Lime pie daily, sometimes two, from a different restaurant each time to sort of eat our way through Key West. At the end of the week we also agreed that Bagatelle's Key Lime pie was the best we enjoyed compared to the seven or eight others we tried. I highly recommend choosing this restaurant for dinner during your stay in Key West and plan to return next time we visit. read more

This was the one place where my omelette had the most flavor and I had the western. I loved the onions and potatoes with it. This 5 star review goes out to Phil! We couldn't get reservations so we sat at the bar and Phil was awesome! He gave us great recommendations, made us tasty surprise drinks, and just gave us amazing service over all. In regards to the food, make sure you get the lobster mac and cheese. I regret sharing it with my friend and not eating the entire thing myself lol. I had the seafood linguine and swordfish and both were really good. I recommend the seafood linguine more though if I were to choose between the two because it was more flavorful. The pink vodka cream sauce was just right. Both portions were a good size. It came out close to well done. The mussels were nice but several were still uncooked. The bummer was they had "run out" of the Key Lime Pie. What a wonderful place for Valentine's Day dinner! We had a reservation which didn't seem to do much since a couple who walked up got seated before us due to a no show group. The host stand didn't seem super organized and spent more time socializing with each other. The seafood pasta was amazing! The noodles were perfectly cooked and wasn't drenched in sauce. I would have like just a little more seafood, but who wouldn't? It wasn't over filling and I finished my entire plate. Do yourself a favor and order the brussel sprouts with bacon. Delish! We dined here for our anniversary. We read and heard all the good reviews about the restaurant and food. The hostess was pleasant that seated us. The appetizer was tasteless, there really was nothing good about it, including the crostini's. The steak was ordered medium plus butterflied and it was more like medium rare. I couldn't eat it at all. My husband's meal was also tasteless and he also did not eat his meal. He said to be generous it tasted more like buttered noodles. It was very disappointing. It was also very loud in there with several group parties. We asked to be moved, but I did make a reservation for a balcony seat (after reviewing the reviews) but when we got there they could not accommodate moving us. I've been here two times for dinner, two and four years ago, and it was great both times. Today I tried the brunch, and I was disappointed. The Bloody Mary was a little bitter, spicy, and completely lacking in sour flavor--not at all to my liking. The avocado toast was pricy, rather bland, and lacking in acid. The garden omelet was bland, and it's side arugula salad just had a little balsamic glaze on it, not really properly dressed, in my opinion. Oh. My. Goodness. This is the cutest restaurant and they have an incredible menu! My boyfriend and I stopped in on Sunday for brunch and they were able to accommodate us without a reservation. We were seated outside on the second floor balcony and were even visited by a local rooster! We had the southern Benedict, Brussels sprouts, and the corn beef hash. We went to Bagatelle last year for happy hour, which was good but not particularly memorable from a food and drink standpoint. We went back this year for brunch. My fiance had the bananas foster french toast, and of course I had to steal a few bites. It was amazingly delicious, and I think it would be a hit for anyone who loves a sweet breakfast. I had the breakfast tacos, which was two tacos with a side of potatoes. The siracha aioli added some nice flavor, but I thought the bacon was a bit too crispy (verging on burnt) for my liking. It was still a solid dish overall. I'd picked up a flyer at our hotel for a free slice of key lime pie with any entree purchase. We enjoyed the pie (it was free after all), but didn't detect much key lime flavor. The accompanying (strawberry?) sauce was more tart than the pie filling. Overall we had a nice meal and would give Bagatelle another try. Note: I noticed some minor differences between the website menu and the actual restaurant menu, so beware if you're set on a particular dish based on the website description. read more

The historical house has the classic Southern charm with sprawling wrapped porches and shade offering greenery hugging the building. The setting and environment alone is relaxing and comfortable, but the real treat is the excellent food and service. The toughest decision is which meal to choose for your visit as Breakfast through dinner are competitive. The service is friendly and consistent and made for a great experience. Keep an eye out for a resident iguana hanging out in the neighboring trees. I wanted to try this place based on the advertisement I seen in my hotel room that was beating me across the head every time I turned on the tv. It got to the point where I knew where the advertisement was in the lineup.....subliminal maybe?? After hypnosis from the tv, I found myself in front of this place. It looks like a house with a super high porch front. Doors were open and there were plenty of people eating on the porch. It reminded me of a house from the south where people sit on the porch and drink sun tea or lemonade. I waited at the door and a waitress told me she would be right with me. Masks on of course and she guided me to by seat on the left side of porch. What was really cool was there was a bar area outside. Nobody was at it but it was interesting to see. Took a look at the menu and tried the lobster Benedict and lobster omelet. I do feel the plates are huge compared to the food. It felt like either the plate could have been a tad smaller to compliment items on plate or fill the negative space with more food. The lobster Benedict was ok. I wish there were bigger chunks instead of crumbles. The same goes for the omelet. Also while u are eating (if on left side of porch) there will be chickens and roosters that will get super close to you and they want food. Aggressive? Tried another place for brunch but the wait was too long so we opted to wander and find something else. That was a happy choice, we ended up at Bagatelle and though we did not have reservations they were able to get us a table in about 1 minute. They recommend reservations and I would suggest doing so. Even though they may not be full and have a table for you, I'd prefer you make a reservation and not miss a meal here. Service was good and attentive. The food was delish and 'to order.' My group has some reactions to some ingredients and they did well accommodating our needs. The biscuits and gravy were quite tasty and having had true southern biscuits and gravy, I can say these were very good and home style. We had other dishes too and they were good. We were looking for someplace for dinner a few nights ago, and it was on the late side. I didn't really expect to find anyplace that would be "stellar" late at night on Dival Street. I figured we'd have typical "tourist fare" when we wandered into Bagatelle. Was I wrong! Everything we had was delicious! Our server Ven was very friendly and efficient. Since it was late he didn't have many other tables, and we had a great conversation with him about all of the places around the world he has lived. We really enjoyed sharing stories about his, and our travels. We had their caesar salad, which was perfectly made, and very delicious. Everything else that my husband and I had was also fabulous. The Filet was cooked perfectly and a very good cut. The Key Lime pie had meringue, rather than whipped cream ( my favorite way to have it!) If we had more time we would have returned again, but we will definitely be visiting Bagatelle again on our next visit to Key West. Don't hesitate to check this place out. Located on the busy street of Duval near Mallory Square its a 2 story building with seating upstairs, on patio , and bar area downstairs . It will be hard to find parking. There is a garage five minutes away walking distance. Service was fast and semi attentive (our server was also the bartender) we ordered the swordfish with rice and beans, we don't eat it very often so can't judge but it seemed fresh and non fishy which is a good thing usually . The hog fish was a fish I've been looking for and this restaurant had it as a special that day , it was also fresh and moist but lacking in flavor. I think if they offered a whole deep fried hogfish option that would have been ideal...still looking for that hidden restaurant . The crabcake was delicious 99% crabmeat and did not disappoint. Bagatelle is a very nice sit-down restaurant in Key West, attractively located in a old house. The ambiance is casual and quiet and is a nice escape from the tourist bustle. I tried the Key West Fish Tacos for lunch and enjoyed them. The came with black beans and island rice (yellow rice), typical of a Caribbean meal. The upstairs dinging room is air conditioned. What a bummer. Used to have great eggs Benedict. Now, it is just no good. Burned thick buns, poorly done eggs, burned french toast, disgusting tomatoes, which they charged $3 extra for 3 stupid slices (as a side) that were crap. Not enough hollandaise on the eggs - the 3 tables around me ordered more at the same time! Bad sign. Coffee was bad. This was a HUGE disappointment. With all the time I've spent in Key West over the past 15 years, Bagatelle has never been one of my "Go-To" places.... but I don't have a great reason why; after all, it's rather good. Obviously, a business doesn't last on Duval Street for almost 40 years without doing something right ! Then again, there are some Duval Street businesses that I can't figure out how they've lasted... but that's another review. As mentioned above, Bagatelle is located directly on Duval Street at the north end (the most touristy end of Duval and maybe a reason I don't visit over other places). The building is your traditional victorian home with caribbean influence (typical of Old Town architecture) and with gingerbread accents and good use of pastels inside of the restaurant. Inside is comfortable but I really like the 1st and 2nd floor outdoor patios that overlook the passerby's along Duval Street. I've come for dinner but it was so long ago that I can't even recall what I ate, much less how I liked it. For me, it's there brunch that I love. Bagatelle has a great specialty drink menu so I recommend starting your Brunch visit with a cocktail before even looking at the menu. You need to remember to be laid back and in no rush; after all, this is Key West. My recommendations (or my favorites): CUCUMBER COOLER: gin, elderberry liqueur, lime, cucumber, mint and soda... amazing on a hot day (and we're about to enter those months now). MANGO MOJITO: nice twist to a traditional island drink BLOODY MARY: not part of the Specialty Cocktails menu but what is Brunch without a Bloody Mary being available Once you finish your first round of drinks, you should place your order. I have a couple dishes that I prefer (and I don't venture off those choices often): SMOKED SALMON BENEDICT: salmon, tomato, spinach, poached egg, hollandaise on a english muffin... always a satisfying choice LOBSTER OMELETE: 3-egg omelette with lobster, applewood bacon, swiss cheese and key lime hollandaise... they don't overload the hollandaise sauce so ask for extra on the side if you need it. I've also had both of the French Toast offerings... BANANAS FOSTER: thick cut french toast with bananas whipped cream and dark rum sauce CRISPY: corn flake battered french toast with blueberry jam and whipped cream They are amazing but they are sweet and heavy so a bit hard to finish the meal... but again, I emphasize they are amazing I posted some pictures but don't hang your hat on the menu pictures I've posted... the menu, for the most part, doesn't change but they do periodically add dishes (and I don't know if those additions are permanent offerings or if they are seasonal (such as the Corned Beef Omelette and the Chicken & Waffles (which sounds delicious right about now). I went back and forward and how much to rate this place, and finally decided on a 3. Let me start with what went well. The location is great! The restaurant is in this beautiful old house and we got seated in the outside area which was perfect. Definitely gives an upscale vibe and just loved the ambience. Only thing I would complain were the restrooms (women's one was a bit smelly but not terrible). Service was good. We found a table pretty quickly (even though it was busy and we were 6). Waitress was friendly. The food quality varied a lot through out the dishes and that was disappointing. I don't mind spending on food, but for those prices I expect it to be fantastic. The charred Brussels sprouts were really good and we enjoyed those. The risotto primavera was not a risotto; it was literally a nice rice with vegetables but did not have a risotto consistency at all. Very disappointing. Bagatelle was the most perfect happy hour on the island! My boyfriend and I were in the keys for a vacation and decided to hit up some yummy spots for drinks and quick appetizers. The bar-only happy hour rules makes it super casual and fun to enjoy conversations. We ordered a glass of the house red, and a cocktail for my boyfriend. We ended up trying several of the small dishes. We got lobster Mac & cheese, pork tostadas, and pot stickers for a total of $17. You really can't beat it. I must start this review by saying the service here is EXCELLENT! Natasha was fantastic so no issues with service by any means b The food however was lackluster and that's putting it mildly. We started with the Brussels (sprouts of course) and it was so bland. They tried to spice it up with parmesan cheese and what tasted like horseradish shavings but it fell very flat. We also had the lobster mac n cheese - what a disappointment. We both took one bite and sent it back. ZERO flavor- it literally tasted like noodles with a little butter. No cheese and definitely didnt see any lobster bites. Its like they didnt even use salt and/or pepper to spice it up. My wife ordered the Caesar salad with blackened shrimps and I had the roasted chicken. The only good thing was the chicken was crisp and juicy but again, seriously lacking flavor. We came to Key West on a girls trip and had the most amazing time! This was one of the spots for dinner and it was pretty good! We started with the Brussels which I thought were a little undercooked but good. Me and my mom also shared a Caesar which was good.
