Why is it that you know exactly what you want to order, you practice it in your head a few times but when the guy behind the counter asks you what you want, you draw a blank? How embarrassing, its been my fave order for more than 40 years! -Sesame Bagel/Toasted -Scallion Cream Cheese -Tomatoes But it comes out as sesame bagel with scallion sour cream and tomatoes??? One of our favorite bagel spots in the area. Weekends can be nuts here but worth the wait. We usually get a plain with cream cheese, everything flagel with scallion cream cheese, and an egg sandwich. Disclosure: this is going to be one of those necessary rants about the price of things. Obviously, everything cost a lot these days, but sometimes you just feel assaulted by your charges: I was blessed to be taken care of on a busy Saturday by the proprietor of this location of bagel boss. He asked me what I wanted and I said a rainbow bagel with cream cheese. Happily I was taken care of quickly and I grabbed a small bottle of orange juice and a black and white cookie. Those things were great and if that's all you want to hear then click on the next review now; I won't be insulted. I watched the wonderful technology as he punched in to the register my charges: Bagel with cream cheese $3.40 Rainbow bagel $1.60 (Seriously?) Pint Tropicana $3.60 (Seriously!?) Muffin (the black & white cookie) $4.20 (when did a cookie start costing more than a bagel sandwich?) Ultimately, after additional charges for the store's inconvenience of having to take my card payment, this little meal cost me close to 15 bucks. [head shake and smirk] The final irony, the little self service iPad screen offered receipt options. Because I wanted to share accurate details of my experience, I pressed 'Print'. Bagel Boss is everywhere, but I haven't been to this location before. It's a huge breakfast place but always has some actions with people coming and going and pretty long, like at the order counter. This location has a good parking space too. Andy, the bagel master, can prepare any bagel you want. Say it, and he'll make it. We ordered an everything bagel with fresh lox and cream cheese. Then we also ordered Challah French Toast to go. When a restaurant uses Challah bread for French Toast, you know it's the best! I loved my bagel, too, because they're generous with the lox. So, there's no signage anywhere stating that this is a kosher establishment, so no bacon egg and cheese to be found here. You wouldn't know before waiting in line, fine. I hate to do this but this is the WORST bagel store I've ever been to anywhere including other states I've lived. From my bagel to my coffee to the linzer tart that wound up in the garbage...it was all disgusting. I was on my way to an appointment and decided to grab a quick breakfast. Oh what a mistake that was. So the grill they made my egg whites on must have had something foul on it because it stunk so bad. The coffee was so dark & tasted burnt. When I asked for more milk the woman was very nice BUT she said that's how there coffee is. She did add more milk but that did no good. Now the linzer tart looked good until I just tried a small piece off the back of it & well once again it was a epic fail. The linzer tart was so gross that it went right in the trash. So many options that despite coming here for breakfast every day It is easy to always eat something different. It's my duty to write this review because every Karen here has a Yelp account . Sorry you didn't get your eggs after they close the grill at 1pm, try coming earlier they open at 5 am . I'm just getting over my complete embarrassment. I ordered from this establishment for the break-fast. The platter was horrible! The salads were dry and tasteless and the lox was bland. They sent me maybe 1lb of lox for 8 people. I spent $292.00 and thank goodness I had a package of lox in my freezer from Costco ( which was far better). I have been coming to this bagel store for years. Just had an awful experience...I came in and bought 4 bagels and asked to try their dill tuna as I like it but sometimes when I buy it, it doesn't taste fresh. When I asked the guy he said "NO" in a very rude way. Then he told me that it's a "Kosher Store and we cannot let you taste. I went into Bagel Boss this morning as I occassionally do at 5am for the only thing that I ever order which is a "Farmers Wrap, whole wheat wrap with no cheese". Upon entering the establishment because I did not have a mask on I was told that I needed one, ask the register person if they had one and was sold one for a dollar. That's not the issue... There's a mandate from the governor that masks must be work indoors at businesses at all time so I was cool with having to purchase one. The issue I had is that as I am paying for my food another customer comes in maskless, walks up to the counter and the same guy that instructed me to get a mask and then sold it to me said absolutely nothing to the maskless customer and just proceeded to take their order. I was both upset and felt insulted. I felt insulted and considered this a racist microagression because the person that came in behind me was caucasian and I am black. I loved going to bagel boss but after being made to feel the way I did this morning I will never step foot in there again. Btw: the food there is delicious and I am going to miss getting my Farmers Wrap from them. I gave them one star based on what happened today. My wife and I along with an old friend made a special trip to visit this, her favorite spot not even a quarter mile from where she lived for a couple of decades. The food was satisfactory, but hardly remarkable given the wealth of local competition. The service was unacceptable and spoke of terrible management. It was an incredibly hot, humid day and there was no air conditioning. Then they couldn't supply a pizza bagel as their oven wouldn't work. Next we got a young, dark-haired man with a horrible attitude who would only quietly mumble and struggled to even fit a plastic lid on a cup. He attempted to charge us $66 for a $23 bill. He appeared clearly insulted and inconvenienced that we would even place an order with him. When I asked for a salad, he only pointed toward the other end of the counter and mumbled something about it being self-service. There was someone there, but they appeared unwilling or disinterested in serving me, I waited. When I finally attempted to serve myself, a woman (manager? owner?) sitting at a desk by the window yelled at me to stop. Rude!!! Finally another attendant served me. A bagel that I asked not to be toasted, was. Lastly the restroom was filthy dirty. Do you think they care? There were no excuses for most of these problems and no excuse whatsoever why you should subject yourself to this horrible service - this once-favorite place has transformed into an unappetizing dump and my wife was shocked, embarrassed, and genuinely disappointed. Although Willis Avenue is home to more than one great bagel store, If you want to deluxe treatment for more than just a bagel then this is your location. Also bagel boss is kosher not just kosher style so if you're observant they will take good care of you. All of their appetizing salads are excellent. This bagel boss has been keeping my family well fed for years. The service here is outstanding. They always go above and beyond to help their customers. Especially the elderly folks from the neighborhood that frequent. Bonnie that works here is the best! During my most recent visit to Bagel Boss, my sisters and I had car troubles and were stranded in their parking lot for hours. We asked multiple people (and some employees) for help and nobody was able to. Then this incredible woman Bonnie, who works at Bagel Boss, asked us what was going on, offered to jump our car AND gave us her jumper cables to keep in case we got stuck again on our way home. Truly incredible. Bagel Boss is lucky to have an employee so selfless and kind. Not sure what we would have done without her compassion and help. read more

Bagel Boss is pretty ubiquitous in Long Island so I've been to a few locations. Not sure what's going on with the reviews for this location but in general, the bagels here are tasty and fresh and the spreads are good. This location has a pretty large dining area which is kept clean and a lot of parking in their private lot (Willis Avenue is a far better trek when you don't have to open your car door and pray that you won't get side swiped by some fool in a gigantic SUV doing 60 in a 30). I will say service and food is better at the Plainview HQ but it's still a decent bite if you're in the area hankering for bagels. read more

On my NY trip, my aunt said she would treat us to breakfast near her house in Long Island. I was thinking, sweet!?? My first New York bagel!!! Let's just say, I wasn't disappointed. Hubby ordered the bagel with cream cheese and lox (smoked salmon). The bagel was fresh and chewy, the cream cheese was fluffy and the smoked salmon was delish! Not fishy or tough at all!! I ordered their random Bagel Breakfast Burrito. It had huge chunks of potato, eggs and veggies. It was darn filling, so I saved the other half to-go. *They also have fresh squeezed OJ, which I would recommend. My sister ordered their blueberry bagel with plain cream cheese.
