This little cafe knows what they are doin with bagels! The cream cheese and bagel selection alone is impressive, but they also offer breakfast sandwiches and meals for lunch. I have not been fortunate enough to order lunch yet but my coworkers and I order breakfast from here often. The bagels could be slightly more toasted and the coffee has not been the best whenever I have ordered it, but now I just order what I know I like which is their everything bagel and either scallion or veggie cream cheese. I do want to try more of their bagel combinations and I recommend this place to anyone who likes variety. read more

Having had Jersey bagels, I'd say my bagel standards are pretty high, but these bagels are pretty great as far as non-Jersey bagels go! They slather on a crazy amount of cream cheese; half of it oozes out as you eat it (I swear they use half a tub on each bagel). My friend ordered an egg platter that probably could've served the both of us as it came with eggs, ample potatoes, and a bagel. Bagels are okay, but the online ordering process is a nightmare. Do not believe when they say your order is ready for pick up. It's not ready. Not even close. If you order at 9AM, that means go pick up your food at 11AM. If not, you'll be stuck waiting in a crowded store with at least 30 other people waiting to pick up their supposedly "ready" orders. This place is great! Affordable good breakfast food. Fresh bagels and speedy service. Typically I order from here at least once a week through door dash without any issues. Today I decided to go before work and get it in person. I called ahead for a egg platter cooked over hard with a whole grain bagel. My order was ready within 10 mins and everything looked great. I was disappointed when I saw on my receipt it said eggs cooked "medium" when I stressed the over hard part. So once I got to work I cut my egg open and yolk oozed over more than half of my home fries, this making them inedible to me. Had I been going home I would've just thrown them in a skillet, no biggie. So I had to discard the eggs, and most of the potatoes. Just to find several pieces of egg shells in the potatoes ? This is sad. This is not what bagels are about nor cafes. i'd rather pay the $200 at starbucks for a crappy bagel then wait. My tummy was grumbling the whole time. Wow. There were about 30 people squeezed into this place waiting for their bagels on an early Sunday afternoon. Maybe 5 with masks on. Staff wear masks. Mostly. It would be so much better if they could figure out a way to have people wait outside or have buzzers for when their food is ready. The wait was too long for what I ordered (2 toasted bagels with cream cheese). I waited over 20 minutes. If you are at all concerned with the ongoing pandemic and nervous about crowds and people not wearing masks, this is not the place for you right now. The bagel was fine. Not awful. I just left The Bagel Cafe where I was scolded for how I verbally gave my order. I wanted to order ahead on Door Dash, but the pick up option wasn't available on the app. I decided to order in person and read my order from the Door Dash app as it was saved from previous orders. I love this sandwich and really look forward to getting it once a month or so. The worker was unfriendly from our initial interaction. As I told him what I wanted, I could tell the worker was agitated, but I never imagined that he would do what he did next. It's completely inappropriate for someone in the service industry to tell a patron, "next time you come in, don't order it like that...", "what you did was tell me you want this and this after I already...". I didn't do anything but read off what I wanted from my phone. I was stunned. Before I put my card in the cc machine. I told him not worry about it. He told me, "ok, I won't". Final review 4.5 stars, I love the food, they have good coffee, but the lay out and seating, is a bit of a draw back if you're dining in. The tables inside are cramped together making it tough to pass through. Also when there's a line of people getting in and out can be a challenge. Unfortunately the outdoor seating was taken. So I asked the gentleman at the cash register if he could have my bagel toasted and he said it's too late (literally it was within a minute from swiping my card). Then I persisted asking him if he could tell the kitchen to toast my bagel but instead he hesitated. Then he hands me my bagel not toasted and tells me "there is an option to toast on the kiosk and you should've ordered up here." Poor business acumen. The bagel costs literally pennies to make and the cream cheese too. He could've easily replaced my order and no big deal would've gained a long term LOCAL customer. My order was completed about an hour earlier than requested, so my food was cold when I got it. The place was pretty crowded, servers were running all over the place yelling order numbers. I only came in for a pickup, which should've taken a minute, but took me 10 mins. The cashier didn't want to help me get my order because it was not her job, somebody else (who was not present) was supposed to get it for me. Not gonna lie, the bagels and sandwiches here are definitely the best in the Herndon-Reston area. That said, it's just not worth it on the weekends. The large crowds are confirmation of the quality of the food, but the ridiculously long wait and subpar customer service make it more trouble than it's worth. And God help you if you decide to try and order via UberEats or DoorDash. You'll be having bagels for lunch! Getting authentic NY style bagels is great, but you're better off driving a little further out and finding a place that runs smoother and has some standard of customer service. read more

This place makes amazing bagels. They are easily world class. But the service is inexcusably bad, especially during COVID. We have ordered both in store and online. The online experience is bad. Simply bad. To order a dozen bagels, you still need to wait in line when you arrive, rather than actually ordering online and reducing the bodies in a restaurant (you know, during a pandemic, which you might think they'd want to do.) in person is no better. Allowing huge numbers of people to wait in your store for an hour just to pick up a dozen bagels makes no sense. I would understand if they needed to be baked, but they're sitting right there. I'm not sure what kind of organizational problems they have, but they're severe, and it's getting worse. If they're overwhelmed due to their lackluster online ordering, they should stop accepting those orders. The worst of all is that for _anything_, including picking up already baked bagels or online orders, you need to wait in line. Inside. With no measures to enforce social distancing - and with the staff making no effort to enforce masks. And all of that said, these bagels - and their cream cheese - are so good. But i won't go back into the store. Order through an intermediary until they fix these logistics problems. read more
