I was passing time in between appointments in the area. I walked in to find a nice gentleman with a strong Italo-American accent, behind the counter. No doubt the owner. I ordered a garlic bagel with bacon chive cream cheese. Delicious. In the corner was a table of older gentlemen having a great time chatting about politics and more--all with thick, adorable Italian-American accents. Regulars. Very familiar with the owner. Loved listening in on their banter and pleasant arguments. I enjoyed the bagel, the no-nonsense service, the camaraderie I experienced. Definitely a place that I can drop in to regularly when I am in the area.

It's consistently slow. I can understand waiting when a restaurant is packed, but we've experienced long waits even when there were very few customers inside. It feels like everything moves at half speed, and that's been true on multiple visits. I also think they're trying a little too hard to be Katz's Delicatessen. That's an incredibly high bar, and instead of trying to recreate that experience, I'd rather see them focus on becoming the best version of themselves. Right now, it feels like the ambition exceeds the execution. The one thing I will gladly compliment is the bagels. They've been excellent every time we've ordered them, and honestly, they're probably the strongest item on the menu. I do think there's plenty of room for improvement, which is why I'm giving two stars instead of one. There's clearly potential here, and I genuinely hope they find their footing because I'd love to have another great deli in the area. I also couldn't resist picking up two Valentine heart sugar cookies with jam because they were just too cute. The only minor downside was that the employee who helped me wasn't very smiley. Not rude at all, and my order was handled quickly, but it felt a bit different from the warm cafe vibe you might expect. The pastry case has no signs. When it was my turn to order I asked what kind of frosting is on the cinnamon roll the worker seemed bothered and said "it should be some kind of cream cheese frosting." Should be? Okay. So I said okay what are the pastries above the cinnamon rolls. And he rudely says "scones" okay yes, I know what scones look like but I also see a muffin. What flavors are said scones and muffins? I ordered the blueberry muffin and got an iced coffee. The coffee is fine but was not filled to the top and the muffin was dry.
