Stopped in on a weekday to pick up a couple desserts to go. I ordered a slice of red velvet loaf cake and what I was told was pistachio cheesecake. I would not describe what I got as cheesecake and it had no discernible pistachio taste. Both the top layer of the cheesecake and the red velvet had a terrible aftertaste to them. Sadly, terrible experience. Had the mochaccino, which was neither well mixed nor made, and the falafel wrap, which was really mediocre. It's cute indoors, but that's about it. This delightful cafe in Wayland Square has become my morning go to for delicious pastries, quiches, and one of my favorite London Fog lattes. Many lattes aren't frothy enough when made with almond milk but theirs is just perfect. Their selection of pastries is always delicious but may I suggest the pecan pastry, it's honestly one of the best I've ever had. The space is always clean and they have the best and largest patio in Providence when the weather is nice. There is also a cold fridge for quick to go items and other miscellaneous food items that are fun to try. I think they deserve the five stars and I'm careful to give them out only when they're earned! Well done! read more

It wasn't very busy, so I went to the counter near the register. When I asked the young lady what the quiche was she needed to go look in the display case, came back and told me, then asked me to go down there to order it. In this time a few more people had come in, so that put me behind three people. I ordered the ham and cheese quiche, and the lady was very nice and offered to heat it up. I was happy to see it was a panini press and not a microwave used to heat it. Back to the register I ordered a Cortado and paid for my quiche, and after about a minute the young lady said I could sit down and they'd bring it to me. I went and sat down, and a minute later the same young lady announced 'Cortado' and looked around. I waved. She looked at me smiling...so I went back to get it. It was very good coffee, but I'm not sure it was a Cortdao... The other lady brought my food. I'm not sure how anyone could call it quiche. It was a dried out frittata at best, and I'm not sure there was any cheese. I only ate about half, so maybe it was on the half I didn't eat. I very much enjoy the communal seating... And I was happy to move when a larger party came in and my table was more useful for them than it was for me. I live in the neighborhood and have frequented this café on many occasions, the other night I was there to watch my neighbor play music on the patio, I went inside to purchase food & a bottle of wine. I selected a bottle out of the cold case & it was ticketed $22.99 (already a significant markup over its $12 retail price) but I was willing to pay that in support of the business. When I got to the register, it was rung up as $40? I said "but it's ticketed $22.99". I was told "if you drink it here we have to charge you $40"?? An $18 fee to drink a bottle, that I'm purchasing from you already at a marked up price, on the premise? I said never mind & put the bottle back! After about an hour or so, I came in with my food to get it wrapped up to take home, and the guy behind the counter, grabbed it from me, wrapped it up, then tossed the bag across the counter at me! I have spoken to other neighbors who have also experienced a decline in friendliness at this establishment. The food is mediocre at best, the pricing not good & the customer service is horrible!! I come here frequently to do work, have a drink and a bite to eat, and catch up with folks who frequent here. The owner is often here and quite nice. More than anything, they have really amazing staff who are kind and attentive and seem happy with their jobs (which is the owner's responsibility). I moved here 5 years ago and there are two women who are here most of the time and have been for the past 5 years, which says a lot about the place. At this point, I have my go to food and drink (spinach pastry is a hit when warmed up), but whenever I try something else, I am always pleased I did. If you want the ambiance of a neighborhood coffee shop, this is it. When the weather is right, the outdoor seating is divine, but even on hot or cold days, the indoor seating with good, chill music in the background and the din of life in Wayland Square does you good. read more

I went to L'artisan cafe and bakery on 7/20/25. When you first walk in it's very cute, modern, and clean. The food in the cases look delicious. As someone who is gluten free, i was very excited to try their gluten free baked good (red velvet cake). To my surprise it was $9 for a tiny portion/bite of cake (size of cupcake). The cake was rather stale and hard as well as the filling. I wasn't even able to finish it. My friends tired and had the same thoughts. Not sure as to why it wasn't good. Maybe old. The line moved, but I did find it a little annoying that it's the same line to order food and coffee. I enjoyed my quick lunch from L'Artisan on a Saturday afternoon. I walked in and was a bit confused in what was expected. All signs pointed to head to the sandwich and wrap case first. The girl behind the counter asked me if I knew what I wanted and I was confused because normally, you order with the cashier first. I did order with the girl, but not without asking what they even had. Sandwiches, wraps, and other items are already made in the case, but nothing was labelled. The menu behind the counter just said listed prices for "panini of choice" or "wrap", so you'll need to ask what the sandwiches are filled with to understand what you're getting. The sandwiches pretty straight forward for the most part, so you can figure it out; but some clearly had a sauce/marinade that I wish was labelled better (the girl just said it was chicken). Ordered a prosciutto sandwich (also had arugula, mozz, tomatoes, and a bit more in it). Asked for it hot, so it took some time to toast up. Got a iced chai latte with it. The sandwich was good. Needed a touch more salt, but fine overall. The bread of the sandwich was the real winner. I'd go back for another sandwich just for the bread. The rest of the sandwich was good but nothing memorable. The latte was okay. Again, nothing special, but good overall. The flavorings of the chai part were stuck at the bottom of the cup and hard to mix. I didn't see any wooden mixers or spoons, and I didn't want to grab a straw and defeat the whole purpose of the sippy-lid. I got it mixed about halfway through my drink but it made the drink imbalanced. I know I'm nitpicking here. They had plenty of seating outside for a nice warm day. It's no secret, L'Artisan is my go-to and my favorite cafe in the area. Not only is it convenient but very close by. Located in Wayland square you can sit both inside and outside and enjoy a quiet coffee, latte, pastry or sandwich. And, unlike Starbucks you can even get a beer here if you so decide. Art decorates the walls that are created by local artists which, you can also purchase. The coffee here is fantastic, they offer your run of the mills coffee, to lattes and cappuccino's (I think I've tried them all), they also have season drinks, teas, etc. The baristas are fantastic! Always friendly, willing to assist you and have a conversation. Sandwiches are great, I favor the lox or salmon wraps. The refrigerated section I usually get the grapes and cheese, gassed water. If pastry is your thing there's plenty to offer and enjoy. Bring a book, have a latte, and enjoy! read more

Going to this cafe for many years, sadly I feel the service has declined quite a bit as well as the variety of pastries they offer. Most staff looks stressed and act like stressed people. Not sure if the ownership changed... For example today, around noon time, me and my husband had stopped for coffee and I spotted a painting on the cafe wall which was for sale. Since people were sitting right by it, I asked one of the women to get it for us so we can take a look. Not a big painting, maybe 10x10. First of all, she really didn't want to help us, by saying once she take it down and I didn't buy it, she has no way of putting it back. She reluctantly helped me getting it. Maybe we didn't look like we can afford the painting. I bought it but had left bad taste being treated like nuisances. I love the painting, and I hope I forget about the bad experience purchasing it. Great cup of tea that hit the spot. Beautiful cafe with a nice Wayland Square vibe. On the other hand, the Pasha David platter was a semi-bust. The humus was on point as were the pickled turnips (cut the red dye, people) and cucumbers. As you can see from the label there should have been baba ganouj (smoked eggplant with tahini and garlic). Instead there was a decidedly lackluster clump of white cheese cubes, olives, and tomatoes. The falafel were the size of golf balls and bland. No respectable falafel eating aficionado would give those beasts a second look. And last, but not least, the spinach pie was okay, but more sumac (a tart spice) would have upped the taste factor. read more

Came in last week, was purchasing Nutella and noticed all 8 were expired. I informed ladies at the register and they took them all off the selves. I came back just now and all 8 are back on the shelf and they removed the expiration date. Will someone at the city of Providence investigate. So here I am again... the day after my first visit! I give L'Artisan a solid 4 stars now. This time, I decided to get a latte and one of their muffins. The muffin was extremely dense; the top (best part) was pretty hard but the chocolate chips were a nice addition. Not the best muffin I've ever had -- I'd give it 3 stars. The latte was good. It came in a very large mug which is always a good thing. Turns out, I'm a dummy - there are sandwiches with mozzarella, tomato, and prosciutto. I should have gotten that instead of the muffin but I had just gotten a sandwich yesterday and didn't want to look like a sandwich monster. There are a few things that aren't great about L'Artisan - one, their WiFi is pretty crap. If you need to actually get work done say, on a google doc or something that requires internet, I highly suggest you move locations to somewhere with better WiFi. It is spotty and keeps fading in and out. It took forever to google search something; I can't imaging how long it would have taken had I actually tried to graph something on Desmos. The seating area is very cramped and it's hard for people to walk around when it gets crowded. Also, as I've mentioned before, only certain seats near the right wall (when you enter) have outlets nearby. If you're not lucky enough to get a spot there, you're going to have to survive without charing your devices for a while. Overall, L'Artisan is still a super cute cafe to meet up with friends and have a nice chat, sip some coffee, and have a nice snack. I have been to L'Artisan many times in the morning and the breakfast fare is good. The coffee for what is essentially a bakery is also good (RI is notorius for great bakerys with coffee that makes you retch.) But I had the orange cranberry muffin - and in it I found two slices of actual orange - with the rind! Is that necessary? I mean - blueberries - yes. Cranberries - yes. But orange rinds? And even if you are going to add them in, at least use oranges without seeds! I thought a piece of my tooth chipped off. Look, I can understand in an effort to be unique and different (especially on the east side of providence where toast can be a sensation if you just call it "Le'Toast") you try to make your menu special - but I think orange rinds and seeds in a muffin is ridiculous. read more

I am a coffee aficionado, I have really high standards for coffee and location, due to the current situation, I am not gonna be super harsh or critcal. Coffee quality: Coffee quality is okay, it's barble. Haven't tried all the drinks, but what I tried it is something to grab if you are in a rush. The latte art is not that special, they really have to up their quality to attract more people. Food Selection: Again nothing special, but again if your in a rush and nothing else is available great place to grab some snacks and talk to your friends. Location: location is amazing, has outdoor seating, and service is not bad. The location. Is truly what makes this place. If it wasn't for this, then I things would go south quick. I am still praying that they will up their quality, service and taste, but I will also continue to support the local business. read more
