There isn't much I can say that likely hasn't been said already. While they can be a little pricy, the pastries are top notch. The carrot cake and banana crème are my hands down favorites, but the lemon cake is very closely behind. Even items like scones that aren't typically amongst my favorites, are made very well. stopped by this pastiche after having dinner in federal hill and this was the only bakery open. there was a very long line even in the evening and it was close to closing time. the options were quite limited. i got the peanut butter brownie, it was a lot sweeter than i expected and drier. it might've been because i was there later in the day. i have heard really great things about their fruit tarts & i will definitely be back to try those. there are a few seating spots inside along the edge of the window. overall, solid grab-and-go spot for baked goods, very beautifully decorated, and priced fairly. read more

Came in around 3:30 pm on a Saturday. The place had quite a few people in looking at pastries. I quickly scanned the pastries they had to offer, and I was helped very soon after. I opted for a crumble cake (a coffee cake type?) and it was instantly put in a box and I was charged, all very efficient. They are a a small shop with not a lot of place for people to eat there, but they have a lot of easily accessible napkins and utensils. I opted to take the cake to a nearby park. I liked that they offered whipped cream on the side since I tend to not like a lot of it. The cake was good, good amount of sweetness, adequately moist, and good flavor. I note that while I was part of a last minute rush, they handled service exceptionally well, taking orders rapidly, with separate people packaging food and taking payment. Line management is a lost art in my experience. The pastry I took a shot on was a tiramisu slice. It was very cake-y as these things go, but made for a mouthwatering breakfast the next day. I was very excited after hearing Pastiche was the best bakery around. I'd looked on their website and I was even more excited since some of the flavors are favorites of mine. When I got there it was very nice in side and the staff were very friendly. However it's one of the worst pieces of cake I've ever had. It's very heavy and dense, almost like a lot of butter/ shortening was used. The frosting was basic and overly sweet, making the whole cake way too much. I tried the passion fruit coconut, old fashioned coconut, and the keylime. Out of the three the key lime was the best, but still a little heavy. The passionfruit coconut cake had a tasty passion fruit jelly on top that was the best part of the cake, the rest was heavy and bland. I know there are a host of reasons for rising costs: Inflation The cost of goods The cost to employee people Yes, these are all factors, but it seems also like "they just can." They don't have to employee people to act as servers anymore, just to box up items to go. It was really a loss to no longer be able to come here and enjoy desert. "To go" just doesn't feel the same, but... The prices have also consistently gone up here. I paid $9.50 each for 3 slices of desert. Was I willing? Yes. Will I do so with the frequency I had in the past? Probably not. I still love their products, but maybe not their policies or prices. And I am sad about it. read more

Rhubarb upside down cake, however, was the one that caused disagreement among members of my family. I personally liked it, while the other 3 didn't. I get it that the sour rhubarb topping can be a turnoff for most people, but imo if you have it with the whipped cream and the strawberry sauce, it still falls under my "ORDER IT" category. This was my first visit to what I know is Federal Hill, RI icon. The staff was patient (I mean sweets are a big decision! lol) and friendly. I took my sister there for birthday dessert. I will start by saying that the baked sweets are delicious and beautiful. I, and my family have been customers for many years. On Saturday 11/22/25 I went in to buy a dessert. I was on my way to a gathering at a friend's house. I asked for a pumpkin dessert that I had enjoyed before. The young woman working at the counter told me they only had slices available. 'We have a whole one, I can put it in the box uncut, but I have to charge you for 8 slices rather than the whole dessert". "It's a little more expensive that way. I told the woman that I felt this was ridiculous. I was going to take something else, but was really bothered by the the offer to buy the dessert at a premium. I'd rather I was just told that they had no more available. I decided to go to another local bakery. Scailo Brother's. I was able to get an equally delicious and beautiful dessert. My birthday cake specifically came out beautifully. Although some may argue that Pastiche is now overpriced, I would disagree due to the high quality of the desserts, cost of labor, and current high cost of ingredients. I am rating 4/5 (leaning more toward 5) because I would love to see them bring back seating inside; it used to be so nice to have dinner on Federal Hill and then walk over to Pastiche for a sit-down piece of cake and a hot drink. I had their chai tea here 3 years ago and it CHANGED MY LIFE. So much so that I went here everyday during my stay lol It's my absolute favorite chai tea EVER. I love how creamy it is, without being overly sweet. I'm so sad I don't live in RI, but whenever I'm in the area Pastiche is a MUST. It wasn't overly sweet the cream was fresh and had plenty of coconut flakes and shavings all around. 10/10 Holiday Cranberry tart was had the right amount of sweetness (Cream) and tartness (Cranberry's) 10/10 Will definitely be on the look out for the Famous Fruit Tart when they go back on their shelves. This review is for the carrot cake. It's the only thing I tried from Pastiche...and it's now the thing that haunts my dreams. I need another slice. Now. This was one of, if not the absolute, best carrot cake I have ever had. And I have eaten a lot of carrot cake. I would go so far as to say I am a connoisseur of carrot cake- anytime I see it at a bakery, I tend to try it and see where it ranks on my all-time list. After visiting Pastiche, I'm happy to report that this carrot cake is at the top of the heap. The cake was ultra-moist, and had the beautiful density you want in a carrot cake without being cloggy. It had the perfect quantity of walnuts, the perfect amount of coconut and pineapple to add moisture and texture, and just the right amount of spice. And to top it off, that cream cheese frosting was epic- it had a wonderful flavor and the right amount of airiness, it wasn't just a block of clawingly sweet cream cheese. Wow. If the other baked goods here are anywhere near as tasty as the carrot cake, then I'd recommend running here. If you're passing through Providence or live there, it's definitely worth a stop. read more

I did a take out order, but due to some error on their website, the pickup date was set as the next day after the order, which I realized only after the order.
