Best bagels in the area. I usually get the whole wheat with egg and cheese or by themselves, and they never disappoint.

Went here with some friends on a Sunday morning and I was very satisfied with my breakfast bagel! I chose to get a toasted whole wheat everything bagel with lox cream cheese, cucumbers, and onions. The bagel wasn't anything different from ones I've had before and neither was the cream cheese, but there was one thing that stood out to me - the bagel was toasted to PERFECTION. I like my bagels crisp and I often feel like they are never fully toasted, but this bagel was just perfect. I really appreciated the doughy interior with the crisp exterior! Staff was nice and accommodating. It took my boyfriend and I a couple minutes to finalize our order and they were patient with us. I am only knocking one star because service was rather slow. We went at about 11 am on a gorgeous Sunday morning so I understand that it may have been the restaurants prime time. I would definitely like to return again when I'm in the area and hopefully I can update my review with a better experience! read more

Was in a rush this morning and came in for a bagel. I always order a plain with walnut raisin cream cheese when trying out a bagel joint. The bagel was not bad! It would have been better if it was a little softer on the outside. Once you get through the outer layer it's softer. Despite it being a thicker bagel it wasn't too hard to eat. The bagel flavor was good and the walnut raisin cream cheese was pretty good. Nice shop to get your bagel, coffee, breakfast or sandwiches. Plenty of tables and a couple of tv's for the diners. The counter person was friendly and order comes out fast! It's a little pricey for my bagel and cream cheese through, as it was over $3. I'm definitely coming back next time to try a breakfast sandwich, which is level 2 of my evaluation of a breakfast spot. read more

Was hoping for a delicious lox bagel comparable to NYC but alas, it was not meant to be. I shouldn't really have that kind of expectation. Nowhere close. Service was not great either-I beat the crowd but then watched every person who came after me get served. My husband had an onion bialy bacon egg cheese bagel. I love this place! They are hands down my favorite bagel. The bagels are soft, chewy and GIANT. Prices are on the high side for a bagel shop but 10000% worth it as both the breakfast sandwiches and deli sandwiches are stuffed to the brim--one sandwich can last me two meals! So the bagels here are good... but the HEALTH issues and staff are VERY problematic. I went in early this morn - 8:10 am. Place is empty- 4 staff members in a very animated conversation just standing and talking. Finally (after an uncomfortable period of standing there) one comes over to counter and I order breakfast. They continue their conversation (about 1 minute) and finally the one who took the order starts cooking. He is scrambling eggs but he keeps stopping and starting while continuing their animated conversation. Finally he puts eggs on grill. Then he does something, right in front of me, that I couldn't believe. He gets a rag (I couldn't tell if it was clean or dirty) and starts cleaning the grill shield and the metal ledge - the grill shield that's right ABOVE the eggs and bacon. I can see dust and other particles falling onto the grill! I call him over and tell him very clearly that he shouldn't be cleaning above the grill while cooking. That dust is flying. He nods, says "ok" and goes back to the grill, flips the eggs... and starts cleaning the grill shield right above the food- AGAIN!!!. Right after he agreed to stop- he resumed. This time I definitely see dust flying and particles dripping onto the grill and possibly the food. I tell him to keep the eggs, and start to walk out. He says "wait, wait... I will make you new ones". Yeah right. So I ask for the owner. The owner comes out and I tell him the issue. He says- "so what?- it was only water- no big deal". No big deal? The owner says no big deal??? and by the way- "ONLY" water? He was wiping SOMETHING off the shield and ledge, wasn't he? So was it DUST mixed with water dripping on my food? Or worse yet - Grease mixed with water dripping on my food? and what was on the rag to begin with? and was it a clean rag to start with? I don't know. Lets say it was the best possible alternative and it was only water. Who wants water dripping on their food??? There was no- "Thank you for pointing it out- I'll make sure it doesn't happen again. " Nothing. No remorse. Just "no big deal- it was only water" from the owner. Personally, even if it was 100% clean water.. I don't want it dripping on my eggs and bacon. so yes... its a BIG deal. Owner if you read this: while I applaud your attempts to keep your establishment clean- a little common sense goes a long way. They should have cleaned that shield when they were all just standing around talking and no one was in the store. If you do that in front of customers I can only wonder what you do around the bagels at 5 AM when no one is watching. And you personally know me. We have chatted many times.. I have been a regular customer ... Well NO MORE! read more

I had the pleasure of stumbling into this very packed establishment visiting my family in NJ. The breakfast was hot and fresh, as were the bagels. Being a Brooklyn native, I am not easily impressed with bagels or pizza, out of New York City. This place surpassed my expectations. The place was clean and the staff was very friendly. Now of course with a packed house there was some waiting involved, which is to be expected during a busy time. I was also impressed with Bagel Hut's selection of coffees. They went from regular to various flavors. I decided to try the chocolate raspberry coffee. It was excellent. They obviously know what they're doing buy getting coffee this good! Now that I have been here, I will most definitely go back in the future. I highly recommend this place to you. You will not be disappointed. read more

The OG bagel spot that I can always come home to with the guarantee that I'll have some fresh bagels. Over the years, my dad has become good friends with the owner and he knows he really puts some hard work into making them. They start the process around 4 AM almost every morning. Expect some delays during breakfast time on the weekends! The bagels are huge and come in many varieties, including whole wheat options. Always ask for a fresh one, they will gladly give it to you! My personal faves: - Spinach Bagel with vegetable cream cheese - Jalepeño Cheddar Bagel - French Toast Bagel (make it a deluxe with pork roll. egg, & cheese) - Any muffin, (toasted with butter) I have also had their lunch subs, which are made with Boar's Head meats. Great place to stop by, even if it's just for the coffee. their bagels are so fresh when I buy them Monday they are still soft by Friday, which is never the case when I buy any bread from the grocers in the area. The bagels *are* phenomenal..however ordering something simple like a half dozen bagels is a miserable experience. There is one line that is typically overflowing out the door on the weekends. You're also sharing the line with people ordering a myriad of breakfast sandwiches and other breakfast items who can't make up their mind what they want when their favorite, bacon, egg and (insert flavor bagel) in not available. It shouldn't take 20 minutes to get 6 bagels, but it will because the people who are behind the counter are slow and don't seem to have any motivation to move the line in a fast an orderly way. Don't get me started on the guy who runs the cash register. He plays favorites to a select few, and if you are not a regular you're relegated even further back of the pick up line. read more

Easter, 12:30pm- sent my husband out for bagels for a late Sunday breakfast. Now I understand it's a national holiday: so my expectation was for him to return with frozen Lenders Bagels and some I Can't Believe It's Not Butter. To my surprise, he was back- fast- after visiting Bagel Hut he had a paper bag of a half dozen steaming hot bagels. They were fantastic; fresh, chewy but soft dough, just enough 'everything' on my bagel. I would have been satisfied with a bagel from the bottom of the basket - thrown in a bag from a rushed attempt to close a sale before closing the store. Never did I expect such a fantastic experience at this hour. Definitely planning a return trip sometime soon. read more

This is one place that I miss when I leave NJ. Super soft, fluffy, doughy, fresh NY style bagels in every possible variety and great coffee to boot. Skip the commercial chains and do your one stop fueling here. They open super early and close late. Prices and quality make sense. Homemade cream cheese spreads are ALL great and the multitude of pastry options look very appealing. You can order sandwiches on a variety of breads also but bagels are the real star. I recommend the egg everything, spinach, and blueberry bagels. Definitely try with egg and cheese and ketchup. The coffee bar is self serve as it should be. French Vanilla coffee is excellent and they have a fridge full of creamers, dairy milk, almond milk, etc. Something for everyone. It is often busy but that's a good sign. Some employees are nicer than others. They are always speeding through orders and handle the turnaround pretty fast. If you want to customize your order, be very specific and check your order before leaving because mistakes can happen. This is easily one of the best bagel shops in NJ. read more

These ARE the best bagels in the Matawan/Aberdeen area. I have done 2 bagel offs. First time, about 3 years ago with every bagel shop in the area, and Bagel Hut came in second. However, Bagel Time (which was #1) was sold about 1 year ago and it appears something changed there. Time for another Bagel off. I purchased bagels from 6 different area bagel shops and I had all 4 friends all taste the various bagels. No one but myself knew which was which. All of us decided Bagel Hut was the best. I have been going there regularly every since. I mostly get just bagels, a couple of times I have gotten a sandwich and have never been disappointed. Sunday mornings are super busy!!! This place has great bagels and I decided to try it again. It seems it's hit it miss at this place. They messed up on my order again. How hard is it to get 3 bagels with butter? They gave me two. And as I watched them making it, I said you go the third bagel, right? And they said yes. So I pay, everything comes in a bag and as I'm leaving I said to myself: let me just check. Aha! The third bagel WAS missing. The next time I went I watched them make everything like a hawk because I feel I may not get what I asked for. The staff is getting friendlier but geez they look like they don't care how they look. They literally look like they just rolled out of bed! This place has the best bagels in the area hands down. The bagels warrant a 5 star review, but their inability to get orders correct leads me to give them 3 stars. Probably about half of the time they get my order incorrect (generally just a simple bagel count). At this point it is my fault for not checking every time before I leave, but it's hard to fathom them putting only 6 bagels in the bag instead of 7.
