Situated in a plaza next to Ace Hardware, Bagel Kitchen is a trendy shop for delicious bagels. Once I came in here, I knew I had to come out with more than one meal and ended up with the Aloha Sunshine and my own Bagel Dog. The Aloha Sunshine definitely lives up to its name, being a breakfast bagel with a pineapple sausage in the middle. On the other hand, the Bagel Dog was so juicy and good I didn't have to dip it in ketchup. The parking abundant with a lot of open spaces and the shop has plenty of seating if you want to come here, have a nice meal, and socialize with your friends. This place was so good that we had two breakfasts here while on vacation! The price is also just right. Their bagels are easy to take to go, or if you would like to eat in the ambience is made just for it. I wish I could have Bagel Kitchen everyday. The hubby and I stayed in Pacific Grove and were craving a bagel. Luckily, the commute anywhere in this town means a quick trip and means I get my bagel a lot faster. My husband and I shared the egg, bacon and cheddar on an onion bagel. We also shared a salt bagel with scallion cream cheese. Both were tasty and wrapped nicely. It was very busy, so expect to wait. The eggs are cooked to order, so expect a fresh sandwich which means be patient. The woman who took our order as made our sandwich was very helpful, friendly and clean. Downside is no napkins were available on the counter or provided. There's a sign outside that clearly states no more than 7 at a time due to covid but there were 15+ crammed in. Bagel Kitchen was such a find while staying in Monterey for the weekend. Unlike most bagel joints which tend to look a little bit more run down, Bagel Kitchen has a trendy, modern farmhouse vibe to it and great ambience. These bagels in all honesty, might have been one of the best bagel sandwich shops I've been to, and I love bagel sandwiches. Their menu has quite a bit of variety from your more classic sandwiches (smoked salmon, ham, bacon, etc.) to specialty ones with chorizo or sausage. We ordered the aloha sunshine (comes with pineapple sausage.. very sweet and yummy), chorizo (has a kick!), the pebble, and Big Sur. None of these bagels disappointed. Try them all! We had also ordered some burritos for lunch on the road, and holy cow were these burritos MASSIVE. And for only $9.50!! The portion of these burritos is enough that we could have ate half for breakfast and half for lunch. God knows how many eggs they put in these because there was so much filling! Service was pretty quick given we went on a busy Saturday morning. Waited no more than 10 minutes for our sandwiches. Highly highly recommend this place. read more

When I travel, I love to eat nice food, especially breakfast. So I visited this place in Monterey. We reached early, around 9 30- 10 am. The place wasn't crowded, had lots of seating place. Two point of sale counters and friendly staff. It was a nice morning with temperature in fifties. I ordered a heart attack and big sur. It costed around 8 dollars each, which I found at least 15% steeper. Now food- 1. Fresh buns and cheese was good. 2. I found the sandwich a little bland (both) but it could just be my Palatte. 3. This bagel shop is one of the best I've been to. The bagels are fresh and have a really good flavor and texture. We got their chorizo bagel and aloha bagel, which were both amazing. I like the variety they offer in both their breakfast and lunch bagels. We also saw they offered breakfast burritos. While we didn't get a breakfast burrito this time, we noticed a few people who did and they were huge! The service was friendly and fast. We didn't wait long for our order to be ready at all. One tip I would recommend to any who plan on visiting would be to go earlier if you want more variety in bagels as we had gone and there were only 4 types of bagels left to choose from. The only reason I'm giving this place 4 stars instead of 5 is because their tables were all dirty and covered with crumbs. I have worked in food service and restaurants before, it doesn't take too long to wipe down tables and there were a quite a few employees standing around and chatting. I even saw one employee lifting a weight in the kitchen. Meanwhile, the trash by the condiment bar is overflowing. Also, on top of the place just needing an overall tidying, I noticed they were selling individually wrapped Costco muffins, which I'm sure were priced up the wazoo. I just thought that was funny. Woke up craving a bagel breakfast sandwich. A quick Yelp search brought up Bagel Kitchen. I was sold from the looks of the uploaded photos from prior reviews - every bagel sandwich looked thiccccc. I love it when directions tell me I'll be arriving in a parking lot, especially when I'm hangry and just recently had to deal with horrible metered street parking in Downtown Monterey. I was really surprised when I walked in. The Bagel Kitchen is pretty hip and larger than expected. There is plenty of seating and tables, even a large farmhouse table in its own little private nook. Check the menu to your right when you immediately walk in, and then walk up to the counter to order. I was torn between the Jalapeno Bomb (jalapeno, avocado, pepper jack cheese) and the Lumberjack (sausage patty, bell pepper & onion, potatoes, and cheese). Ended up just adding the sausage patty to the Jalapeno Bomb. In retrospect I should have asked how much an additional ingredient would cost. I paid $9.90. On the menu, the Jalapeno Bomb as is costs $7.25...merp. Although, the menu clearly states "any cheese, gluten free and premium bagel will be charged extra." So maybe the extra cost was for the type of bagel and not the added sausage patty, idk. Besides the cost, my breakfast bagel sandwich was filling and delicious. The jalapeno cheese bagel was chewy, fluffy, and fresh. The ingredients were stacked perfectly and just the right amount to where I could take a bite without everything falling out. I got East Coast Breakfast (bagel with plain cream cheese, fried egg, smoked salmon, cucumber, avocado topped with arugula). It tasted very healthy, but it wasn't anything mind blowing for $12.75. I expected a little more smoked salmon at that price point and with everything in this bagel I could barely taste the smoked salmon at all. The decor and ambiance is very trendy - I could easily picture people hanging out in non-covid times. Covid-wise, Bagel Kitchen felt like they were doing things right. The number of people allowed in at once was capped, and they had clearly marked areas to order and wait for food. We visited on a Friday around noon and didn't have much of a wait. My sausage, egg, and cheese on an everything bagel hit the spot. I also got an everything bagel with herb cream cheese for later, which I would probably skip next time - it was a little too much for me. I'd either get a plain bagel with the cream cheese, or just a less salty cream cheese with the everything bagel. They have 2 tables outside for outdoor seating, no on door dining because of covid-19. You must wear a mask to get served. There was no posting on the floor for 6 feet distance. You go up to the counter when it's your turn and choose what bagel you want. Then you wait for the person who took your order to pay afterwards. So we choose the Everything Seed Bagel and got the BIg Sur and The Pebble Beach and a coke. The price was fairly decent on average $7.00 a bagel. It took about 10 minutes for our order to be ready. And we ate outside in the dining area. If I'm in the area I would come back again! read more
