I like their ordering and payment screens that you use upon entering , for ease of ordering and no employees handling the food ever touches my payment. The quality of the meat, bread they bake themselves, and ingredients is high quality. The meat tender and such, so i have no complaints about quality. The portions are small. I paid $5 for french fries and received about one small potato cut into fries overly cooked and browned. My first thought "could they spare it! One small potato!mAND brown!" And not good crispy brown-- that's why I didn't take them back because they might be crispy so I tried them. Of course after eating a couple there were so few left I couldn't return them. They definitely should give two and three times the amount of fries and not cook them so hard. When we walked in, the door didn't close all the way and the girl told my son to close their door. He did but it was kind of rude since they didn't even turn the ac on. It was really hot inside. I ordered on their kiosk, I ordered donut holes, tomato soup, and an iced mocha. While we waited another employee walked in and she was rude, not customer service oriented at all. Well, first navigate a lengthy kiosk menu and place your order completely on your own since the humans walking around don't want to interact or take your order, then have the barista tell you there is no whip and the other barista chime in that there is, it's just somewhere else, THEN the proprietor keeps telling you to basically go somewhere else to wait for your order and THEN find that we, the patrons, are paying for their healthcare - see receipt. I tried coming here a year ago during business hours but was turned away on that visit because they had "run out of bread" by the same young gentleman proprietor. I was quite pleased with this little sandwich shop in Carmel. I was impressed by their wide variety of sandwiches. I ordered the Caprese sandwich (and added turkey to it), and a friend ordered the Bahn Mi sandwich and we were both happy with our choices. The burrata on the Caprese was fabulous, paired with the balsamic reduction and tomatoes was delicious. Liked adding turkey for a little extra protein but definitely didn't need it. I appreciated that they had good indoor seating if you are wanting a quick/nice lunch in, or also very easy to take to go or eat in the outdoor area. I was extremely disappointed in Breadsong. The concept is great and I will say the food was high quality, but not worth the high prices and poor quality service. My husband and I came for lunch on our trip to Carmel since we were staying across the street. Like many visitors, we were unfamiliar but heard good things. The staff working greeted us but gave no direction of where or how to order. We saw the screens so that's where we ordered. The selection was extremely limited - only one hot sandwich and three cold. I searched all over the menu but couldn't find the famous fries or a small side like chips to go with our sandwiches. Based on the hefty price of the sandwiches I hoped some kind of side would come with them... but no, the sandwiches come alone, which we realized when we received them from the manager. That's also when we realized the customer service was terrible. The manager brought our sandwiches out without any napkins and informed us with a rude attitude she would be changing our ticket for our drinks. The menu had the option of coke, and having seen the Mexican coke bottles in the fridge (but no specific differentiations on the menu on our screen or a soda fountain in sight) I grabbed two bottles. The manager gave my husband and I a rude look when I did and whispered something to the staff. She later informed us she'd be changing our ticket because we selected fountain cokes, apparently. I let it go but the attitude and overall poor customer service was very upsetting. In all we paid more than $60 for 2 sandwiches and 2 cokes and a bad attitude. At first I was a bit taken aback by the price of a sandwich at Breadsong, even though the restaurant has a great rating and reviews on Yelp, which I usually use to help guide my dining options. BUT, I was craving a really good sandwich, so I decided to splurge and treat myself to The Purist: a Wagyu beef sandwich made on sourdough bread. I used the restaurant's online ordering feature, since I wanted to do takeout. I'm glad I did, because the in-store model is fast-casual, and I'm not a huge fan of that type of service. I did notice a couple dining-in for lunch at an adjacent restaurant space. I took my sandwich along on a day trip to Point Lobos, and trust me when I say - that sandwich held up nicely in my backpack for a couple hours before I stopped to take a lunch break. It was worth the wait, and SO satisfying. The bread was amazing, the flavors of the meat, cheese, onions and mayo all complimented each-other wonderfully. It's pricey but I suppose you should know as you are in Carmel. I would say, if you are starving and are looking for volume, be prepared to pay for it. But that being said, what I did order was great. You just order at a screen in front and they bring the food over to you at a table you can just pick and sit at. I went for breakfast with my boyfriend and split the fries with him , which was a struggle since it felt like a small serving. We also got the donut holes which I would not get again personally but it was cool to say I tried a duck fat donut at least. Didn't see that different from a general donut. I had ordered the duck fat donut and the burnt ends wagyu sandwich online and went to pick it up in store. Firstly, I think the staff were very kind but they were definitely slammed and overwhelmed. I had to wait a while to pick up my food, even though it was right there in the counter, because of the chaos behind the counter. The seating in the back looked calm and inviting, but I wish the front was as calm and collected. It was crowded with people ordering and picking up orders and getting water. The duck fat donut was pretty mid. Great concept, warm, and well sugared but it was over priced. I didnt expect the donut to taste savory or duck-ish, but the taste is not worth the price. If I didnt know it was fried in duck fat, it could have been a regular donut. The burnt ends wagyu sandwich as decent but too oily. The flavor was tasty and smokey, but either the bread could not handle the oil content or the wagyu was really just too oily. Either way, it was a mess to eat and the eating experience overshadowed the taste. We came here on a Saturday after the lunch rush, around 2:30. I find the ordering system impersonal and that not all menu items match. I'm not sure if they ring people out normally when it's busy, but there were 3 people behind the counter when we walked in and we were told to use the computer. I thought that was weird. We split the spicy chicken parm sandwich and got a couple of carbonated drinks. The bread of the sandwich was superb, the chicken itself was an odd consistency, and the aioli mixed in was delicious. So, all in all, kind of a hit, kind of a miss. I got a cherry/Bavarian cream croissant to go and while it was very good, for $6 it could have used some kind of cherry drizzle in the middle. It just had several chopped cherries on top on a plain croissant with cream in the middle. When I asked for a to-go box, the woman working behind the counter had a pretty annoyed attitude about it. As other reviewers have commented, the 22% living wage fee is kind of a joke. If I'm told to order on a computer and you want me to give you more money for service, then serve. Don't make people use a computer to order. Overall, I don't know if I'd recommend the menu here, but would stop in for a loaf if on vacation again in the area. read more

One bite of the bread and you'll understand why this place is called Breadsong. And yes, it is because the heavenly sounds you hear after biting in. This was some of the freshest and softest - yet still crunchy bread I've had. Sandwiches were quite tasty, and that wasn't just because of the bread. They had awesome aiolis and sauces that added flavor and complexity to the sandwiches. I went with the Wagyu burnt ends sandwich as I was sold by the pickled onions and arugula. The burnt ends were quite sweet, so the pickles and onions were the perfect ingredients to balance it out and cut the sweetness. I didn't love the burnt ends, some of the pieces were a bit hard, but overall the sandwich as a whole was really good. I think if this had come with the shaved wagyu, then it would've been 5 stars for me. Sandwiches are pretty pricey, for 2 it was about $40 - so more of a special occasion sando than your everyday sandwich. They were pretty large and filling though. While I was in, I overheard the owner telling a customer that they try to not sell too many loaves of their bread since they can make so much more money by using their bread on sandwiches. I believe it! This place becomes a steak restaurant in the evening. I had thought I might be interested in trying it as well. The sandwiches on house-made sourdough are crazy good. I'm regretting not getting the sandwich that includes chicken & bacon on a sugar donut fried in duck fat. It haunts me. The salad we got was a work of art and fantastic. Service was very friendly and competent. Parking is super easy, prices are in line for the area. My one gripe is the model of ordering on a kiosk instead of from one of the friendly humans. I know, it's probably cost effective, but it felt like being at a Panera instead of an upscale eatery, and detracted from the experience for me. We ordered our food and followed the waitress to our table where we had to go through this awkwardly narrow path to the dining area. The ambiance was nice. The table was very high in relation to the seat. There were 4 of us. We all liked the food. We were not given napkins and had to ask twice for them. When we asked for boxes to go, we were forgotten about. We all thought the same thing about our experience. It had such potential, but failed on several levels. Fabulous breakfast stop. They are now open at 9am six days a week! The scrambled eggs are the best I've ever had - and a side for $5 is arguably the best deal in Carmel too. Wonderful lattes, bacon and avocado sides too. And the au jus beef sandwich is my latest lunch addiction. Over the moon! And If you make a mistake and hit a wrong button on their machine, they won't help you remedy it or offer a solution even after you offer to buy the missing item separately.
