Went early on a Sunday morning and feel pretty good about the experience. Seating was available, and I tried their sausage egg and cheese bagel that was very tasty. I'd be curious to try their bagels separately as well as their other baked goods.

Garlic bagel Chili Crisp Cream Cheese

This is a bitter moment for me. Came here before the changed the name and had a great experience years ago and knew I had to stop in again under the "bagel miller" name. I went in and the cashier just stood there staring. Didn't offer any help, a greeting, nothing. Just stone faced and honestly very uncomfortable and unwelcoming. I finally find the bagel board tucked behind the counter/glass and after trying to make a joke about my poor sight and the cashier still making everything extremely awkward I ordered a bagel With shmear and got out of there. She made it so weird I didn't even order a drink Or anything for the kids The bagel came out and I quickly got out of the store. Outside I unwrapped the bagel which looked appealing and a fair amount of chili crisp cream cheese on a garlic bagel. I took a picture to promote them and left. When I got to the car a block away I opened it and tasted it. The toast was good but the chili crisp cream cheese was extremely salty and unbearable. I forced down half the bagel while wiping half the cream cheese off but it was still just too salty. And since the cashier made it weird I didn't order a drink to rinse the salt down. I reached out directly explaining the situation and the owner confirmed "she's like that when she's tired" as if that makes it acceptable. Also stated they changed seasoning for the chili crisp cream cheese and never thought to taste the product before selling it. Every chef knows no matter what taste your food!!! So the final take was rude, unwelcoming, cashier, extremely salty unbearable bagel/schmear, and and owner who knows the problems are their and they dont taste "new recipes" before selling them. I'd say let this be a last resort consideration if even at all

Came in directly for the strawberry matcha latte which was delicious, well prepared, and look how photogenic! Had nothing but great service and the inside looks super cute. There's a decent amount of tables to sit, eat, and work at. Will be back to try the bagels next!

The sausage, egg, and cheese sesame bagel sandwich, was good but nothing crazy. The strawberry matcha was very good. It took a while to get the sandwich.

Hipster atmosphere in this little bakery and cafe. It's one of the longtime popular places in Lincoln Square. Baker Miller has recently changed up concepts a bit. Featuring mostly bagels now and a few pastries. The prices are from okay to kind of high mostly. Bagels are the main thing ever since this place has gone through a change. It's now set up more like a deli. There's a menu of bagels and spreads. Also there's coffee. The spreads are usually cream cheese, and a few of these are vegan. Strangely enough, none of the bagels are. What are you going to put the vegan cream cheese on then? Anyway they have a few vegan cookies. It's about $3 each. They had a Black & White one. Liked the frosting on it especially. There's a few other things on the menu such as pasta salad. For sure it's good to support a local business. It would help if they fixed a few things about it. Things like how about getting some more bagels because that supposedly is the main thing.

Plenty off bacon, but was not expecting scrambled eggs.

Well I'll start off by saying the bagel was delicious. Happy with that. But for 2 bagels and a black coffee, $25 seems a little steep for me. Not crazy, but a little expensive. Only issue with the bagel, called classic egg, however it was scrambled and mixed with milk. My wife was not able to eat hers because of the lactose. I would expect a fried egg, disappointed in that.

Is the outdoor patio pet friendly?

Not sure. The patio is only accessible through restaurant so you might not be able to walk through. Not sure if they have other tables out front in the summer.

Even my boyfriend who loves burgers agreed that the chicken sandwich was one of the best and maybe even better than the burger. Definitely get the mac & cheese, chicken sandwich, and french onion soup. The french onion soup was super cheesy and the mac & cheese was so creamy and perfect. Typically I don't like bacon in mac & cheese, but I love that they don't overdo it here where it overpowers the entire dish. It was only some tiny pieces of bacon just for the flavor.

Nobody's performing, everybody's happy to be there, and the staff treated us like they were glad we showed up. Start with the sweet tea. It's the real thing. The Nashville hot chicken and waffles is the move. The heat has actual flavor behind it instead of just burn, and it builds in a way that keeps you going back for another bite. Then I tried the shrimp and grits and had a small crisis about which one I liked better. Still haven't settled it. The grits were creamy, the shrimp had real seasoning, and I cleaned the plate. Fair warning: none of this food is for anyone on a diet. That's the point. Come hungry, wear the forgiving pants, and let somebody else count things for the day.

He had curly hair, was light skinned, and appeared to be either a waiter or busser. While we were seated, he bumped into my chair at least three times and even hit me in the back of the head while trying to move around the area. He apologized each time, but after it kept happening, it became frustrating and uncomfortable. He was also spraying 409 heavily at the table right next to us while we were eating. It was so much spray that I genuinely felt like it may have gotten on my food. On top of that, he repeatedly dropped things around our table and seemed to have a difficult time maneuvering through the dining area. It honestly made me wonder if the table placement itself was part of the problem The food service was also disappointing. My meal came out first, and I had to wait quite a while for my sister's chicken biscuit. When it finally arrived, the chicken was not cooked all the way through. My pancake and bacon were both good. I just wish the overall experience had matched the quality of those items. Between being repeatedly bumped into, being hit in the head, cleaning chemicals being sprayed next to our food, and undercooked chicken, it made the experience difficult to enjoy.

I ended up ordering the smokey joe sandwich (vegan sloppy joe sandwich), with a side of mac + cheese, and a sprecher soda. Whether I'm using Grubhub or Uber Eats, I love ordering online because it's so convenient. I also want to praise my delivery driver for arriving at a reasonable time with my order and meeting me right in front of my residence. Grateful to have had a smooth online ordering experience because the likelihood of me ordering online again is very high. As for my order, my first response after my first bite of the vegan sloppy joe was, "Mmm, that is good!" If you are a foodie like me, then you know what the next few minutes--or, better yet, seconds--consisted of. Yes, I pretty much devoured that vegan sloppy joe, leaving nothing behind but what was left on my fingertips. The last time I had a vegan sloppy Joe was a few years ago in celebration of my birthday, and trust me, it wasn't as good as this one at Soul & Smoke. It could easily be confused with real meat if you aren't aware that it is vegan. I saved the side order for last, which was that delicious-looking mac and cheese. Mmm... "Oh my God!" was my initial response after my first forkful, which was lightly seasoned with a delightful taste. I must say it was the perfect side for the vegan sloppy joe. After my last bites, I had the slightest grin on my face, and the only thing on my mind was that I will definitely have it again in the future. The sprecher soda - cherry cola was the perfect complement to my meal. Introduced to me by Soul & Smoke, I am so pleased with this award-winning craft soda from Milwaukee's oldest craft brewery that I will be on the lookout for it in the future. I would gladly order from Soul & Smoke Avondale again, whether online or whenever I am in the area. With that, I am happy to share my endorsement of it with you all here on Yelp.
