Now, there's nothing wrong with adding some sauce if you prefer, but it is not necessary to have an enjoyable meal. Yet, there've also been cases where without a generous helping of sauce, you are left with something dry and/or insipid. I believe this is true for pancakes as well. There is nothing wrong with butter and maple syrup... however, a good pancake should be at least somewhat enjoyable without. I regret to say the Vanilla Buttermilk Pancakes at Little Corner Restaurant needed a 'healthy' dose of butter and syrup to help lift them out of the hole they found themselves in. I found these pancakes bland, lacking sweetness and any vanilla flavor. To make matters worse, they were notably dry throughout, with almost no distinction between the outer and inner layers. I also opted to make it a "Breakfast special" which included two eggs and a form of meat. The eggs (ordered over medium) were fine in that they were prepared as requested, but had no seasoning of any kind (to be fair, there was salt, pepper, and hot sauce at the table). The sausage links were A-OK, no complaints there. I also want to give some credit to the service. It was appropriately attentive for a place like this, and the food came out quickly. Finally, where it comes to prices, I'd say they were not terribly high, but then again, what does one get for these prices? Dry pancakes, unseasoned eggs, and two sausage links that were factory made and heated from frozen or refrigerated. I wanted to give two stars... but when I realized I would rather eat something from the freezer section of the grocery store than make a return trip to a sit down restaurant/diner, that is not a sign that I can give any semblance of recommendation via the rating.

Since several of the longtime baristas left, the café has gone noticeably downhill. I don't blame them for leaving--it's common to see a single barista taking orders, preparing drinks, and making food all at once. As a result, wait times have increased significantly, especially if you order food, so be prepared to wait. My first major concern was with food safety. I watched a barista prepare my bagel directly on a countertop he had just wiped with a brown, soaked rag that had been dipped in murky, soapy water. The counter was still visibly wet when he placed my bagel on it. I politely asked if he could remake it, and he became visibly frustrated before tossing the replacement bagel toward me. Their rewards program is also unnecessarily confusing. On one visit, a barista refused to honor my free pastry reward. After trying to explain it, I eventually gave up and asked for a refund. I was quickly dismissed and told I'd have to wait several days because there wasn't a manager on site who could process it. The customer service has declined considerably, and the food has always been overpriced for the quality. If you're looking for great coffee in the area, I'd recommend Avondale Coffee Club instead. The coffee is consistently excellent, and the baristas are always friendly and welcoming.

The description was unclear so he took a risk, but he ended up loving it. I ordered the tuna melt after confirming with the cashier that everything was freshly made and it was fantastic. The tuna had the perfect balance of veggies and mayo, the cheddar cheese was melted perfectly, and the bread was grilled just right before adding the tuna. It was exactly what I'd been craving. For two people, including a tip, the total came out to $34. This is amazing for the area where many places can easily run you $60 or more for food alone. Overall, I hope this place sticks around. If they continue making fresh food and keep their prices fair, I think they have a great chance of succeeding. We already made plans to come back. Definitely stop by and treat yourself to some fresh, hot food.
