I went for breakfast and wanted a carrot cake muffin. However they were out so the guy working suggested what I swear he called a "good morning" muffin. It was carroty, cinnamon-y, with bran and nuts inside I believe and powdered sugar on top. YUM. Fantastic FRESH bagels in the morning! My favorite, the everything bagel -- is not just a bagel topped with "everything", but it's actually mixed into the dough batch so you get the "everything" flavor w/ every little crumb. Quite honestly if it wasn't such a pricey joint I'd give it 5+ stars; but again price sorta kills it for me. Nova lox creamcheese is great and they absolutely do not skimp out on the smoked lox at all. Veggie creamcheese is lacking the spices that are in my beloved Philadelphia supermarket bought brand. I have grown up on these bagels and will stay loyal here forever, even since I don't live in Merrick anymore. They have the best nova ever so good you can eat tons of it plain. I also recommend the creamy whitefish salad and egg salad. My parents cater from here and buy bagels every week. There bagels are not too doughy and have a great taste. Hands down the best selection as well as highest quality of any and all bagel "fixins". Their lox (smoked salmon), whitefish salad creamy or traditional is out of this world!!! With the many other bagel stores located just within a mile or 2 this place is hands down the best in the area or even the entire island and been around for decades. Bagel Plaza is my favorite bagel store on Long Island. I grew up in Bellmore, and I miss having Bagel Plaza a short car ride away. My favorite bagels here are the everything bagels. They actually come with toppings mixed into the dough as well as sprinkled on top. They're delicious and I always make a point to bring some back to Boston to freeze and have a taste of home on hand. Lox is hand-cut and delicious, as is the whitefish salad. My favorite salad is the vegetable tuna salad. I've never found another one that was as delicious as Bagel Plaza's version. If you're into cream cheese, and who isn't, their veggie cream cheese is chock full of all sorts of veggies, like carrots, peppers, and even broccoli. My only gripe is that they don't have a location closer to Massachusetts. read more

Stopped here for bagels to go after doing a drive by of my old neighborhood last summer. This place has been there since I was a little kid in the 1960's and it reminded me why I missed the bagels of my childhood so much now that I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia. (We have a couple of okay bagel bakeries around here but none hold a candle to the bagel bakeries I remember from LI.) The bagels were great--chewy crusts, densely seeded, soft, fluffy innards. The toppings were generously applied and my kids finally came to understand what I mean when I tell them that what they serve at Einstein's, Manhattan Bagel and Panera is NOT a bagel. I recently visited an aunt who lives in Merrick and she is a regular at this place. On Sundays after church she picks up bagels and cream cheese with lox. I thought that both the bagels and cream cheese were excellent, they were very generous with the lox unlike many other bagel shops. I look forward to the next time I can have bagels with my Aunt. I have been a customer of Bagel Plaza for 20 years. The food here is always fresh and I believe their bagels to be among the best on Long Island. The salads are really fresh, albeit a bit expensive. Yes, this store is expensive, but in today's world, not outrageous. Good coffee with flavored options as well. The soups (vegetarian/kosher) are offered in season. They are good, but a little salty for my liking. Their nova scotia smoked salmon is outstanding! The only knock here is that some of the staff can be a bit aloof and terse. I have learned to check my items before I leave as they sometimes forget things. This is only a small number of the staff. The rest of the crew is great. I recommend Bagel Plaza! read more

I have been going to Bagel Plaza for the past two years, since I moved from Texas. I always liked their nova lox because it was fresh and they cut it to order. I never had a problem. I go there probably 2 to 3 times a week. So today, I bought 1/3 of a pound of nova and my wife said it was salty, like eating Belly lox. I called to tell them and ask for an exchange, and the young lady behind the counter, who told us she was a manager, first refused and told its we needed to taste it. I have never needed to taste it and nor was anyone ever tasting it. She told me she wouldn't exchange or credit us and then , she told me that she would credit me 1/2 of my cost.I then asked to speak to her boss and I heard her tell him I was losing my mind and her customer service was terrible. The gentleman told me I needed to taste it at the counter. In todays world of the Coronavirus, NO ONE TASTE FOOD AT THIS POINT. They need to work on their CUSTOMER SERVICE because they now lost us as a good customer. It wasn't the $15.00, it was the immediate NO I was given by Bagel Plaza. I ordered a egg and cheese on a bagel when I walked inside. This guy took my order who I'm assuming was a teenager. I was waiting for about ten minutes and my food still wasn't done. He finally comes out with the food. He then goes wait how much does this cost? And one of the other workers told him. The egg and cheese on a bagel was 4.00 without tax. This guy charged me almost $6.00 and I asked him why is that the price because it didn't seem right. And he goes " I don't know" then he recalculates the price and it's $4.35. This is by far my favorite bagel place in the area and I will continue to eat here, BUT if the nice old lady behind the counter makes your sandwich, you will leave hungry. Very good and fresh food. The bagels are always fresh and very often they are still warm, because they just came out of the oven. Unlike other lox spreads that I have had, their lox spread is full of large chunks of lox. The scallion cream cheese is also delicious. My only complaint is that the service in this place is very SLOW. It doesn't matter whether there is a line out the door, or no people in the store. I live in so Cal but grew up in Merrick. Whenever I'm in NY my family makes me take them to bagel plaza even when we aren't exactly nearby. Its not an elegant place, but the bagels and the spreads are the best around. Bagels are not big doughy balls but instead the bagels are the right size and have that perfect NY style chewiness to them. Its not about how large the bagel is, its the consistency that makes a NY bagel famous. The creamy whitefish salad is the best around. My kids make me buy it by the pound. They have a nice large dining area with plenty of tables, but this isn't the place you go to impress a client with environment, this place is all about the NY style bagels and the amazing spreads, and that they do to perfection. read more
