Hello Wantagh community, I rarely leave negative reviews for any business, but today I had such a disappointing experience at Gateway Bagel that I felt it was important to share. I ordered a cinnamon raisin bagel, scooped out, toasted, with bacon and American cheese. When it was time to pay, the lady at the register told me the total was $6.52. This seemed very expensive to me, especially considering that a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich is $6.75. I asked if the price was correct, and she confirmed it was. I expressed my dissatisfaction and mentioned that I wouldn't be coming back due to the high price. Her response was simply, "No problem," without any attempt to address my concern. When I opened my sandwich, I was even more disappointed. As you can see in the picture below, the sandwich was very underwhelming, with what appeared to be just one small piece of bacon on each half. Stay away wantagh.

BLT on everything bagel was as weak as possible

Not worth the price. Paid $11+ for a blt and it was as cheaply made as could be. Two slices of tomato, two slices of bacon- even the lettuce was light. Wouldn't return as there is much better within walking distance.

    1. Bagel 2. Tomato 3. Salmon 4. Cream cheese metastasizing at an amazing rate 5. Bagel bottom screaming, "help me!"

I reviewed this shop before, but after 6 years a revisit was in order. Sadly, my experience the 2nd time did not live up to the first (see photo & diagram please). In short, my bagel was overloaded with cream cheese, topped by an *extremely* and criminally thin layer of salmon - not at all what I was expecting for the price they charge. The bagel itself was good. But if you slap a giant slab of cream cheese on it, how is it possible to taste anything else? For kicks I calculated the ratio as 2:1 bread to cream cheese, 5:1 cream cheese to salmon, and 9:1 bread to salmon(!). But forget the math, bagel folks of America: you deserve better than the lopsided monstrosity that you will be served here. There are plenty of upgrades within driving distance that will give you what you pay for. Thank U next.

Best Waffle fries ever!!!! Super crispy and well seasoned! (excuse the atrocity of ketchup smothered fries due to my coworker)

This is my first time ordering from Gateway... I usually don't review a place until I've been there a few times to consider their consistency... but I am so impressed that I feel compelled to review now. I ordered a chicken cutlet hero with avocado and pepper jack cheese. The hero was well proportioned, warm and crispy. The avocado was fresh and perfectly ripe. My coworker ordered a chicken cutlet hero with hot sauce, pepper jack cheese and bacon. His sandwich was deliciously consistent with mine. Despite ordering for deliver with UberEats, the waffle fries were perfectly crisp and delicious. I was pleasantly surprised, I was honestly expecting soggy cold fries. I think we finally found our new go-to deli spot! Very excited to have found them.

    Hungry Man Breakfast Sandwich

Gateway bagels has become my go-to place for the hungry man sandwich. For those who don't know what it is, it's pretty much every option for a breakfast sandwich all in one: Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, etc. Considering the size of the sand which and that it comes with coffee the price is pretty reasonable. They also have breakfast specials for those who are commuters! Would recommend Gateway for anyone looking to grab a quick bite for breakfast.

Egg whites? Turkey? Avocado and spinach

Employees are nice but the food is short of a few ingredients! Breakfast Booster Wrap and I asked for Turkey... still looking for the Egg Whites and Turkey...!)

    Paper baked into my bagel.

Done. After a few questionable issues with the food, I had stopped going to Gateway. This morning, running late for work, I stopped in to get a buttered bagel. What could go wrong with a simple buttered bagel? Well, there was paper baked into my bagel. I'll end like I started. Done.

The bagels are always fresh and have great taste. Just be aware that if you do not pay cash they charge you a credit card surcharge fee.

Mom and my daughter had the Biscuits and Gravy with added chicken. My wife had the Spicy Seoul Benny, my son the Twisted burger and I had the Chicken and Waffles. Yum, yum! Based on another reviewers recommendation, we called while on the way to be added to the waitlist. Was told to expect a 30 minute wait. Once we arrived we waited less than 10. Our server was Giselle. Super nice, attentive and helpful. She made sure our table was well taken care of. The place is nice. I'd say best suited for parties of four or less, but accommodations can be made as needed. Good service, comfortable seating and good food. Will return to try other dishes.

I was torn between the…read morebiscuits and gravy and the eggs Benedict, but I almost always end up choosing eggs Benny when it's available, so I went with the fried chicken eggs Benedict. My husband ordered the tater tot waffles with scallion, sausage gravy, and sunny-side-up eggs, which also allowed me to try a bit of the gravy, something I really enjoyed. The restaurant itself is spacious and comfortable, with a kind of nostalgic, old-school diner feel, almost like a more polished version of Cracker Barrel. The staff had that classic diner professionalism too...experienced, efficient, and clearly very used to doing what they do well. My only real complaints were minor. I couldn't really taste the cheddar biscuits, and I didn't love the pickles on the eggs Benedict. I also would have preferred a bit more hollandaise. I know I could have asked for extra, but I just didn't bother in the moment. That said, I saw so many other dishes passing by that looked great, and there are plenty of things I'd still like to try. Unfortunately, it's not a neighborhood I'm often in, it's about an hour from home. That said, the next time I find myself in the area, I'll definitely make a point of stopping in again.

We went on Juneteenth, and I guess the restaurant didn't realize that people were off from school…read moreand work. My group was slightly bigger, so we were sat upstairs. They asked for drink orders and we were left alone for a long time until the drinks arrived. Though we were ready to order, the server just dropped off our drinks and went to bring another table upstairs. I went down to the counter to get someone to take our order, and it took nearly an hour before our order was in (and even then, they took the order of the second table before taking our party's order). It was almost an hour and a half since we entered the restaurant when the food finally arrived at our table, and then it took so long for someone to come with our check and process payment, we went down to the counter to do it. During this time, another family was seated upstairs and left due to not being attended to. This caused big delays in our day and I had to cancel an appointment because we spent over two hours at this restaurant when we didn't want to. That said, food was good. I got the lemon blueberry pancake, which was a little bit gummy but mostly tasted fine. My brother got the mangu, which is kinda hard to find around here, let alone on the menu of a breakfast brunch restaurant. It was my brother's first time having it, and he thoroughly enjoyed it. Besides him choosing scrambled eggs instead of fried eggs, it was very classic mangu breakfast. The real crabmeat omelet was another hit-- crabmeat was so real there were little pieces of shell lining-- really ambitious and deliciously executed. The menu is really fun and the food was overall good. Again, I think the very slow service wasn't on purpose and it's because they didn't anticipate such a large crowd on a Friday, but I would say run if they try to seat you upstairs and you're the only ones up there. Be prepared to wait for a long time if you want the reward of nice food.
