When picking up or dining in, I will admit the staff can be dismissive & aloof. They always do their job as far as my orders are concerned & that's all that matters to me. This is a tough one. I've been a customer for 16 years. The past few months have lead to this review. I was kicked out. Of a bagel shop. Twice. Place used to close at 5pm, apparently during the pandemic they decided to close at 4pm. Instead of changing hours on their door and online like a traditional business does, they have just taken to sweeping and mopping at about 3:45pm while frowning at the customers who are eating. When school is in session, my daughter and I have been eating here on a weekly basis for the last 5 years. We normally get a corner table and do her homework. Today at 3:55pm I was approached by a Hispanic woman who informed me they were closed and we needed to leave. I pointed to the time and she said, "closed." I asked for and spoke with the manager, informed him of my tenure as a customer and walked out. As I was leaving a woman parked and attempted to walk in - I had to watch - same Hispanic woman scurried over and locked the door in her face. I've never, EVER, seen a retail business turn down a sale unless it were a security issue. This place, wow - just locked the door - I mean, if you own this place, watch today's tape.... Unreal. I give them 2 stars because it wouldn't be fair to the good service and the good food they have provided over the first 15 years, but I'm done. Thanks for the memories. Silver lining is upon explaining why we're not going back, my daughter and I had a whole conversation about valuing the money we spend in the establishments we CHOOSE to visit and how those establishments VALUE their customers. I was early, but at 15 minutes past that time I called them. The answer, "we didn't know you were outside." Two cars were outside, really???? I've seen the staff turn over about twice in that time, so it's not the workers; it's a culture of laziness and no accountability for lines being out the door almost all the time. Are you there at 5:00 AM? You'll wait. 12 noon? You'll wait. Weekday? Weekend? Doesn't matter...you'll wait. I haven't changed my order in 12 years. It's always a bagel (usually untoasted) and a coffee. That's it. Most real bagel shops in the city can get that order done in 90 seconds. It takes the workers here 4-5 minutes to get me out the door. If you're not in a rush, go here, but if time is short you WILL be late for whatever you need to be on time for. If I'm planning my day I allocate about 30-45 minutes just for Town Bagel. Wow, I am disappointed. I've been coming to Town Bagel in Bellmore so frequently for so many years, but today really took a turn for the worse. My mom and I went here and it was not a lunch rush at all. It was not busy and only a few tables were taken with people eating. We ordered the Southwestern Wrap on lettuce wrap and Lettuce Wrap with Low Fat Tuna and Tomato to stay. Also, we got a Whole Wheat Bagel sliced with a side of butter to go. We asked the woman behind the counter if we get side salads because she never asked us what we wanted and being that we come so often we know that we get them. She had to check and when she came back she said we did. I got a a side of Cole Slaw and my mom ordered the Chick Pea side salad. She wanted the avocado black bean, but they told her it would be extra and she didn't care that much for it. She ordered a small coffee and I ordered a medium iced tea. We waited over 30 minutes for our food to be brought out. We would glance over behind the deli counter to see them struggling to make the lettuce wrap which doesn't make sense because we've order these before. There were like 6 people just hanging out and laughing by the cash register but no one to help us with our order. Finally, someone behind the register came up to ask and said "You've been waiting for a while. What did you order?" We told her and she said we could pay first and she would bring the order to us. We waited another 10 minutes at the table and at this point my mom got up to ask where our food is because we were waiting an absurd amount of time. They said they were just making it. Then the woman from the register brought it to us and forgot the side of honey mustard with the southwestern lettuce wrap and the to go bagel. My mom went to grab her attention and she came back with the bagel, but we gave up on the honey mustard. My mom expressed to the woman that we come often and have never had a problem but this was ridiculous and we will not be back. The woman just said okay pretty snarky too. She did say that it was the woman behind the counter who helped us' second day. We understand that she may be new, but if she didn't know what to do she should have been trained and someone who was just standing around watching her struggle should have stepped in. The owner, Dave, was present but he did not intervene and we never received an apology for the long wait. BUYER BEWARE. Every time I go here, it seems they charge a different price for a bagel with cream cheese. I know I'm not the only one who noticed this, as have my friends and other yelp reviewers. The prices are absolutely outrageous. For two bagels with scallion cream cheese and bacon and a single iced tea, it came out to $16. Are you kidding me? On top of that, the quality of the food wasn't worth bragging about. The bacon was charred to a black crisp and didn't even taste like bacon at that point. There had to be half a teaspoon of cream cheese on the bagel if that (INCREDIBLY stingy)! I'm never going here again.
