UPDATE: After writing this review, I was promptly contacted by the owner Lauren K. She was apologetic about my experience, and she offered to give me a credit. She explained that they try to improve and that their ordering process is something that they are working on. I declined the credit, and I informed her that I will be giving this place another try. Her prompt response shows that she truly cares about the costumer experience, and that she is open to suggestions. Very courteous owner. Below, is my original review that will be updated upon me second experience with this establishment. My review is based only on the poor structure of the ordering process which inadvertently leads to incorrect order. This place has the most ineffective and frustrating order process that I have ever encountered in this type of establishment. Mostly in these types of bagel/salad places, you order your food, and you walk up with your receipt to the register in order to pay. In the other half of these types of establishments, you order at the register and wait for your food to be prepared. Also, when you order a salad, which is what I did, you watch the individual put the ingredients in front of you. This prevents the individual from making a mistake and/or missing ingredients. Well, not in this place. Here, you wait in line facing the backs of understandably busy workers, and if you are lucky someone becomes available so that you tell them your order. They give you a piece of paper with scribbled hand writing, and you are told to proceed to the register with this paper. You wait in a second line with this paper, and then you give it to the person at the register. The cashier attempts to figure out what you asked the previous individual to write on that paper and you once again have to repeat the order, and only then will your order be sent to the same station that you just came from with your scribbled paper. What's the point? I know this may seem confusing, but I was confused as well when I stood for a while with this paper without a clue. The worst part is that I paid a $20 for a wrong salad with a medium fresh squeezed orange juice. The salad was missing more than half of the ingredients and it had Italian dressing instead of separate balsamic vinegar and olive oil. I asked both the cashier and the person who wrote the order to make sure to write that I want olive oil and balsamic vinegar. No, it's not all the same thing, because the olive oil and balsamic vinegar do not have all the salt and other stuff the other dressings have. Missing one ingredient is forgivable, but missing most of the ingredients and substituting some ingredients (i.e. giving fresh papers instead of roast peppers) and pouring a heaving amount of the wrong dressing is not acceptable. I try to eat healthy, and I buy a salad for lunch every day. I have one hours lunch, and I did not enjoy spending most of it standing in two lines that served no purpose. I was extremely disappointed to know that pets (not service animals) are allowed in this location. I was sitting and enjoying my food when another patron allowed his dog to lay under the table next to me. I asked the cashier if they allow pets (NOT referring to service animals, which should be allowed) and she confirmed. "As long as they hold on to them," pets are allowed. I highly question the sanitary procedures in a location that allows pets. Yes, they're cute and cuddly... but not when they're shaking pet dander in the air and (eventually) over my food. Seriously, I'm a bagel aficionado and this is by far one of the BEST spots I've been in NYC. Today I got a toasted sesame bagel with bacon, egg, and chipotle cream cheese. I felt weird getting it but it was honestly phenomenal. It gets super crowded especially on a weekend morning but the staff is well organized and diligent. This place slapped. So simple, quick, and great quality. Huge selection of different bagels and cream cheeses. You had so many options between savory and sweet combos. I went for the sesame bagel with bacon and green onion cream cheese while my friend chose a raisin bagel with cinnamon sugar cream cheese. The bagels are also so big that you could honestly eat half and save the other half for later. They do not go easy on the cream cheese either. It's like a solid inch of cream cheese. There is a reason why Bagel Pub is always crowded on the weekend. They make awesome bagels, always fresh, and perfectly toasted. Their cream cheese selection is very diverse, every sweet and savory flavor you can think of. My personal favorite is the scallion lox cream cheese on a toasted sesame bagel. So good! They also make bomb smoothies, you have to try the hulk green smoothie. The hulk + bagel + iced coffee combo will cure any hangover. Food is good, although pricing is sometimes inconsistent and overall ordering can be a disaster. For instance, I've tried to place an order through GrubHub and over the phone today and I've had zero success. GrubHub gives a message saying restaurant is closed and order can't be placed, phone is off the hook so there is a steady busy signal any time I call. Sadly this is a regular occurrence. If I walk to the pub right now there is probably 3 or 4 customers on line. This too has happened before. I guess the staff feels it's ok to snub customers if they feel they've had enough for the day. This is sort of a long story, so I hope y'all are ready. Today was my only day off from work so I slept late, preparing to wake up past noon and laze around. Unfortunately, my brother decided to be an irresponsible hooligan and come home at 6am after losing his phone. So he couldn't go into work - which is our parents store, by Bagel Pub. So of course, my mom calls me to wake me up and asks me to come in instead. Although I found my brother in his room sleeping, he decides to take his sweet time leaving and going on a search for his phone. I generally try to eat somewhat healthy, but today I decided I deserved a good first meal. So I went to Bagel Pub to order a whole wheat bagel with one egg, 2 egg whites, cheddar, sausage, spinach/kale, tomatoes, and onions. I'm guessing the guy only heard the vegetables after I mentioned "egg whites," probably assuming I wanted a clean meal. Because my bagel came without the good stuff - cheddar and sausage. I took it to go, so I wasn't about to go back and complain. I guess the universe was telling me to eat healthy. The bagel didn't taste bad or anything, but egg whites and vegetables on bread isn't exactly flavorful. I also got the small beet punch. It's more like a lemon punch. It's pretty damn sour. I thought it was somewhat drinkable, because I have a (self-proclaimed) high sour tolerance. Either way, after like 1/4 of the cup, I had to add some splenda. I added more than half a packet and it's still pretty sour. Maybe it's always sour, or maybe the girl just accidentally added too much lemon. I will never know, because I won't get it again. I rolled around my tiny little high school with the hottest girl on my arm. I thought I was something special. Then I went off to college in the city and I realized that there wasn't anything special about high school me. That girl on my arm, she was small potatoes compared to the city girls. I broke up with her via AOL instant messenger and never looked back. So what does this have to do with Bagel Pub? Well, in similar fashion, I rolled around Tampa thinking that I knew what a good bagel was. It took me four hours in New York to realize that those "bagels" I was eating were nothing more than tiny little crust rocks. They were small grains of wheat compared to the Bagel Pub bagels. I was sent to Bagel Pub with a huge list of food for the still sleeping mass of people at the apartment I was staying in. While I waited to order, I noticed the case right in front of the ordering area was full of what I initially thought was gelato. Weird that they would have gelato at a bagel place. Then it dawned on me, that wasn't gelato. That was the cream cheese for the bagels. There were mounds and mounds of different cream cheese flavors. Little bacon pieces and walnut pieces and chives adorned the top of these mounds. Very impressive, if you are into that sort of thing. I read off my list of bagels to the man taking the orders. Some had cream cheeses, some were meat covered, some were vegan, one had peanut butter. Some were toasted, some were not. I was a bit nervous considering some of the other reviews on here mentioned Bagel Pubs knack for messing up orders. After I paid and was given my sack of bagels, I checked to make sure everything was right. Despite the difficulty of the order, everything was perfect. My bagel of choice was a plain pumpernickel everything one. The bagel was huge. It had a nice crispy exterior and an extremely soft, chewy interior (I did not have it toasted). The pumpernickel was extremely muted. I expected it to be a strong flavor, possibly overpowering the "everything" but instead it just sort of nudged the bagel closer to a truly "everything" taste. The other two Floridians were extremely impressed with their bagels as well (one a blueberry, one a cinnamon raisin with peanut butter). Right after we finished, the three of us took turns logging on to AOL Instant Messenger and breaking up with Panera (don't judge us based on our chainstore bagels!). My only regret about Bagel Pub is that I had but one meal to spend there. That and I missed the extremely discounted day old bagels they sell at night. read more

Bagel Pub just open up I believe a week ago. I wanted to see if they can size up with Bergen Bagels. I waltz in the establishment walk to the back to order my blueberry bagel with tofu cream cheese. You have to pay at the front register where you can order smoothies, ice coffee, hot coffee and fresh squeezed juices. It's hipster City at Bagel Pub Hipsters love bagels and coffee lol!! My only gripe with Bagel Pub is their bagels are kinda small to me. I'm used to eating a bagel where I'm full until lunch time!! Bergen bagels haven't let me down in this area I'm just saying. This small bagel is not going to cut it for me. The bagel was good soft in the inside and crispy on the outside but nothing to rave about. Hooray! After I posted my review, Bagel Pub contacted me thanking me for alerting them about their needing to follow the customer's order more closely. I've gone back a few times and my order has been perfect each time. I'm a very happy customer. My favorite thing to order is a toasted poppy seed bagel with the cranberry apple tuna salad. They give a generous portion of tuna salad. I also love getting a watermelon lemonade. They juice watermelon right into the lemonade when you order. The drink is wonderfully fresh and a great summer drink. read more

Very good bagels. I'll echo the checkout frustrations that others have observed, but it looks like they are working on it. Since I wrote my first short review I've been back a few times. The bagels still remain very good, but service problems also remain, and they can sometimes be bad enough to impact quality. For example today is we ordered two different sandwiches on toasted bagels to go. When we got them back to our apartment we discovered the first was not toasted at all, and the second nearly charred black. The first I can excuse as an honest mistake, and one that I wouldn't Yelp! about. But the second I can't: whoever took that burnt black bagel out of the toaster and wrapped it up clearly knew what he was doing, and was banking on the fact that like most people who place to-go orders, we weren't going to walk back 10 blocks to complain. And unfortunately, this isn't the first time something like this has happened. It is too bad- again, they have excellent bagels, but not being able to trust the staff to be careful when taking orders, or to be conscientious when they make mistakes, is a real problem. I always feel like I'm doing my body good when I come to eat here. The only negative I have is that staff are not nice. Ordering and checking out, the staff always seem bothered... I went to get an iced chai latte which came out to $4.50 which is annoying but fine, but it was way way way too sweet. I asked for a re-do and that was way too sweet as well. I was coughing and still feel sick thinking of it. The service worker said that the powder is already sweetened, but then why wouldn't you just use less powder..?
