Should be called Bagels & Junk Fees. The food here is average and the service is slow. The most disturbing part is they whack you with 4% fees for using a credit card, Google Pay, Apple Pay and even a debit card which costs them next to nothing! They also charge you for a bagel with cream cheese even if you just get a plain bagel and never tell you about it. The few restaurants that have to pick your pocket for credit card fees normally charge 3% at most and don't charge it on debit cards or Apple Pay. Just a quick update since my prior review from two years ago. The tuna salad is usually delicious, but today it was a little dry. Not a big deal, as it was still good. The lox cream cheese is loaded with lox and always delicious. They carry Dr. Brown's and I grabbed a can of root beer, along with a can of diet cream. I love Dr. Brown's soda. Just a heads up: paying by credit card adds a 4% fee; and signage is posted near the register. I ordered a 1/2 dozen bagels and got 7, which is a nice little bonus, and their bakers dozen is 13. We really liked this place... and already plan on returning. It was a bit crazy busy when we came. And one of the deli guys was yelling in an argument with another, but that didn't stop us from staying. All the inside tables were full so we put our name on the waitlist. At lunch with my daughter and granddaughter today lunch was a little expensive but just OK but the big problem was I decided to bring home a pound of corned beef and a rye bread just got done eating the corn beef or actually opening up and thrown it away it was the most disgusting fatty horrible thing I've ever eaten. Almost 5 stars. Why only 4? Certainly not for the lack of food quality or taste. Not for prices. Frankly, the only reason it failed to hit 5 stars is because they say cash or check only. When pressed, they said they'll take credit cards but charge 4% over the cost. It's also more expensive to get the same item from the waitress than from the counter. Nickel and diming bothers me. Maybe that's just me. I'm understanding of the challenges of a business today, but I would prefer they said they'll charge more for cards than to say they won't take them when they will. Now, having ranted, let me get to the good stuff. This is my new go-to for bialys, onion boards, salt sticks with caraway seeds (I was just in NY and these were at least as good), cream cheese with lox, capers, and scallions, and bagels. Haven't been here in years, it's gotten a bit of a facelift and the food is still just as good as it was. We came right around "brunch time", no seating available inside but we were sat right away at a table outside. Server came over immediately with menus and silverware. Great bagels just like NY bagels. You even get an xtra with 1/2 dz. & dz.They have lots of salads like chicken salad, tuna and my favorite was the whitefish salad. They have specialty cream cheeses with lox as well as vegetable cream cheese and several others. Came back in recently for what I like here. The super egg bagel with lox spread and a piece of chocolate rugelach. I also got a piece of chocolate crumb cake to try something new. STAY AWAY! AWFUL SERVICE! AVOID THIS PLACE! Initially promising, quick greeting and help at self-serve. I requested a cookie to eat first before making my bagel order (everything bagel, untoasted, open-faced, scallion cream cheese). She ignored me for the initial request. I saw the cashier open up and told her what I ordered and again requested the cookie which she got immediately. But the bagel came out wrong (closed-face). Remake request met a sour face and grunt. So I cancelled order, didn't even want the cookie anymore. Turns out, not the first bad experience here. Someone I know, who's Celiac, was told she couldn't bring her own gluten-free crackers for their salads. They don't offer any GF options. So they will never come back either. I stopped in for breakfast an hour ago, after passing by my local Star... and Dunk..., because they were jammed. With this place, there is good news and not-so-good news. The good news is the food tastes good (I had an omelette), and there is a reasonable variety in the menu. Service is decent, but can be abrupt (more later). The not-so-good news is they are missing some breakfast basics: no half-and-half (let alone heavy cream) for coffee. They offered a non-dairy (that is, artificial chemical) "creamer," and when I asked for half-and-half, the waitress got a little testy and said that was all she had, except whole milk. I said I'd take the whole milk, which she promptly brought. I like cottage cheese as a side, instead of the usual carb-heavy options. They don't offer it. I was able to get a couple of slices of tomato. The so-called "knife" in my place setting couldn't cut through a slice of toast without me really grinding down on it and forcefully dragging back and forth. It's really intended for pushing, or applying butter or jam, rather than cutting. All-in-all, this place falls into my "any port in a storm" category. If there's nothing better, I might go there again, but I would never seek it out. read more

The server took our order right away. Coffee was offered immediately as well. Good strong coffee that I drank two cups of. In food, Sam M ordered a Spanish omelette that came with a zesty salsa on top. I ordered a Swiss cheese omelette with no other ingredients. You can add as much ingredients as you want if you want to create your own style omelette. They do a sub-charge per item in the omelette. The home fries were good but a few over cooked. I ordered an onion bagel with the platter, the bagel was fresh and nicely toasted. A mini muffin cake also came with the meal, it was totally scrumptious with bits of chocolate chip within. Went in a couple of days ago and my wife and I ordered a $34.95 smoked fish platter for 2 plus drinks. I asked for an extra bialy ( not even toasted). Gladly willing to pay extra. Bill comes to almost $50. Okay no problem. Then we discover that the extra plain bialy was $3.95. I mean come on what would that make a dozen? $48.00? (Ok $47.40). First of all, Thomas Wolf said "you can never go home again" and unfortunately, most of this is true! This restaurant used to be our go to when we lived right around the corner and we enjoyed their products very much. Everything was fresh. The staff was polite. Made it easy to get in and out with all of our needs for Sunday morning. I moved away a while ago, and I had the opportunity to stop by today with a friend and she saw how excited I was because I had such found memories of this place. We were greeted beautifully had a table right away. I believe the woman's name was Stephanie who sat us Made us welcome. Gave us our menu and all the other paperwork that goes in seating. Our server Tracy soon followed, and she turned out to be a delight, very professional, very patient and a good listener. One of the many reasons I was excited besides the delicious bagels was I was gonna treat myself to the Sable, which anyone will tell you is expensive but worth every penny... usually. I ordered the platter and it looked lovely. The Sable looked wonderful but quite frankly after I took out the sixth bone from two slices of fish I had had it. This is not what I was expecting and since I have eaten this wonderful fish many, many times I was utterly disappointed and on top of that the owner's son, Tony, happened to be sitting across from me and turned out to be quite a rude young man. The assumption that I didn't know what I was talking about was difficult enough, but the tone he used was totally uncalled for. So strike one. At the table he was sitting at were four more cohorts, coworkers, whatever they were, and they had the gall to start cursing during their conversation amongst the customers, as if there was no regard for us whatsoever. Strike two. Tracy took the Sable platter away and replaced it with the Whitefish platter. I figured this will work out nicely, wrong. The first bite I had to take a bone from my mouth! These are not large at all and I could have easily choked, Strike three! All of you who frequent that restaurant good for you, the staff all of them are wonderful ready to please and will work with you to make sure you get the right order. For myself, I will not be returning to this particular bagel place. I feel very sad that this is how my interaction with this memorable past is closed, at an end, kaput. Tried this place because it was close to an appointment I had in the area. It is a cash or check only business which is disappointing. The lady that took my order was pleasant, I ordered an everything bagel with cream cheese on the side (to go). The bagel was very good however no knife in my bag to spread the cream cheese. No big deal, I just dipped the bagel into the cream cheese. I probably won't come here again, main reason is sanitation. The lady who was preparing my food was wearing gloves however, she put my bagel in the toaster, cashed out another customer, washed her gloved hands for 2 seconds and then continued to prepare my food. So the gloved hands touched my food, dirty money, rinsed and then my food again. Either have one person taking money and one preparing food or get new gloves! read more

Horrible staff! They all need a major attitude adjustment. Downright rude to customers. The bagles didn't seem fresh. Yesterday I asked for cream cheese on my toasted bagel and it was all melted and dripping all over the place. This was my 3rd and last time here and I should have never have gone back after I didn't like it first two times. It was close to where I live but never again. The waitress yelled at me because I sat outside one of the many tables and was told to move because that was only a table where a waitress would serve customers even though no one was outside at all. I assume the owner never comes here because it's so obvious that no one gives a dam about anything. Just miserable service and lousy bagels.
