Won't even eat here any more. Walked out after the last price hikes. Food was always average but the prices are crazy. $20 for eggs and potatoes and choice of meat? $25 for a Reuben that's not even that good. My DH and I had a meeting nearby and at 1 PM decided to go for a late brunch / Lunch today. It was hot out so we decided to eat inside assuming it would be cooler. After about 15-20 minutes it heated up and was not much better than outside. They shut off the A/C as closing time nears. Not right. I decided to have breakfast and ordered the eggs. They were out of hash browns and home fries and wanted to up-charge me $4.50 for a small side of fruit. Nope. I took the fries for my DH since I didn't didn't want oatmeal. The eggs were fine & the bagel was very good and fresh however the butter was almost melted and the cream cheese was warm. Definitely not refrigerated. As soon as we were served our food the noise level of the place rose from a 3 to a 10. The workers were jibber-jabbing and carrying on at the top of their lungs, screaming and making a ruckus. No waitress to say anything to. She disappeared. Not a peaceful lunch by all means. We couldn't even hear each other talk. Next thing I know, another restaurant worker comes to the table and takes away the ketchup. Then, while I was still eating, a worker in a Caribbean shirt come over takes away my husband's dish. He was done, but I was still eating. My husband tells the worker not to take anything else as I was still eating. He just ignored my DH and grabbed all the plates including my plate with food still on it and a fork in my mouth. I couldn't believe it! I was invisible to him.......He was just going to clear that table whether I was eating or not. We will NEVER go back there for breakfast or lunch. I only really come here for a bagel every now and then, but they are the best bagels I've found. I always get a poppy seed bagel and today, when I asked for one with extra poppies, I was not disappointed! The gentleman making it for me added a ton of the loose poppies - ahhh! They're the best part! I also know they have Taylor ham. Haven't had that since I left Joisee. Yum. I did have actual breakfast here once. Likely won't again. It was rather bland and overpriced. Although I have bought bagels from here several times (and it is my favorite bagel in SoFL, as shown in my Bagel Bastard series), I've never actually eaten in the restaurant until today. The menu encompasses breakfast/diner stuff with curated Jewish deli classics. Rachel and I had lunch with a visiting friend from the DC area; we had a hard and soft salami sandwich combo (with rye bread baked on-premises) and a legit matzo ball soup; my wife had a off the frame turkey melt (perfect well done french fries) and our friend had a "Veggie Tuna Platter" with a bagel. These are the best bagels in the area. And I've tried them all. Their bagels are consistently, across many many years, the best and most similar to the New York bagels that I love. I go out of my way to get bagels every day that I am in the area. Unsurprisingly, I've also learned that the owner used to run a bagel shop in New York - so this place is legit. read more

Bagel City was recommended to me for catering a lunch meeting I had. I don't write reviews often but my experience most definitely warrants me taking the time to do so. I called in to see if they could accomodate a catering order for 25 people (same day mind you) and I had the pleasure of speaking with Mike who helped me and was just a gem of a human to interact with from the start. I got there, they helped me load up and off I went. Only to then open my back door and drop an entire tray on the ground right before a big presentation. I called Mike to ask if they could make a new one for me given now I was in a super rush... I think he could hear the panic in my voice. He said no problem, come on by. Let me tell you... this man was standing outside with the platter when I got there. WHO DOES THAT!? I was so so incredibly grateful to him. I stopped in to grab breakfast after a shopping trip in the plaza. This is the kind of no frills, frequented by locals, type of establishment that I love. Bagels are based on a 140 year plus recipe developed by Moshe Zlotnicov from Kiev, Ukraine. The recipe was brought to the U.S. by his son Abraham who passed it on to his son and Samuel who passed it on to his son Norman who operates Bagel City with his wife and son-in-law. All bagels and pastries are baked fresh daily. It is not often you get to try a 150 year old bagel recipe so I ordered an everything bagel. It was delicious, crispy on the outside with all of the flavorful seasonings, and soft and doughy on the inside. I wish I had picked up some more to go. They serve breakfast and lunch and have indoor and outdoor seating. The pastries looked delicious and they had a refrigerator case stocked with hearty soups. Nice small compact cafe like shop. It gives you the vibes of an old school deli. I went in and got an order of sweet potato fries. The fries took about 10 minutes and they were fresh and delicious. The prices are so high you could get a nosebleed. The only reason I ever walk in the door, maybe once or twice a year, is for what is called a "twistie." That is an overpriced bagel that is twisted to look like a big fat non-curvey croissant. It is chewy and delicious. I used to get them when visiting friends near Islip, Long Island. However Bagel City South was a great surprise and makes a somewhat legit NY bagel. The young counter guy who helped me was friendly and ordering was easy. Prices are very reasonable especially when considering that they make their bagels and baked goods in house. I placed a large order and taste was somewhat varied; A Potato Knish was okay but a little dense and not as flavorful as I expected. Rugalach was also okay and I've had better and I've had worse and the same can be said about other bakery items. However this is a bagel review and the bagels were nice and chewy with a good balance of dense and airy texture. I'm happy to have found this bagel shop and I'll be back. read more

This is a solid and consistent breakfast spot in south Boca Raton with some of the best bagels outside of Manhattan. My grandparents are regulars here 3-4 times a week, and they are really treated like family. On weekday mornings, they have a breakfast special for $5.50 if you pay cash. You get 2 eggs emu style, choice of oatmeal or fruit, and a bagel or toast. It's a great value! Since quarantine, I've been coming to breakfast with them at least once a week. Masks are required and the tables are socially distanced. You can take food to go like you would at a normal deli in NYC. The bagels are GREAT. My grandparents always make sure that Jennifer is their server, and she knows their orders by heart, and they've gotten to know her well through the years. Fritz is another favorite, as he buses the tables and also works at Yogurt Emporium at night across the street (the best yogurt in America). I live local. I want to support this business. Eaten here 4 times and for the last time today ordered take out. A BLT on white bread not toasted w Mayo. Simple. First --$15? Puh Lease. Second - stood there 10 min while the woman in the window looked through a catalog. Puh Lease. Got home with the BLT and the bacon was so burnt it was crumbles more suited for a salad than a sandwich. The tomatoes were 3" think and it has a head of lettuce and no mayo. I took two bites and threw it away. There are far too many restaurants in the neighborhood that actually care about our business. I try very hard not to write bad reviews but we need to know what you're getting into with this place. I came here back in the day and years later I tried again. The bagels and bialys are very good and that is it. This was my third visit. On this visit I decided I wanted to get some appetizing. I ordered nova, some sable, cream cheese, nova cream cheese and whitefish salad. The nova cream cheese was very pink in color with zero flavor! The whitefish salad was like eating puréed baby food. The sable was dry and the nova was just okay. The regular cream cheese also was missing flavor. They are expensive and that would be okay if the product was up to par with the prices. Good bagels unlike many of the round bread passed off as bagels. You know who you are! The nova spread is tasty don't get the Barbie pink color. Coffee is good. Service was very good. We tried their rugelach as we have been burned by every attempt in south florida. Tasty however, very doughy! Although rugelach is of Polish appellation the best comes from Czech and Slovak bakeries in Cleveland, Ohio! The cucumber on my plate was definitely beyond its sell by date. I asked for a pickle and received a nice half sour spear. Since we pass this way often (t silent) we will give it another try. It's been years since I've been back (and if you read my previous review, then you'd understand why). But this review is about a comeback and redemption so I'm not going to dwell on the past and bash what is not the forefront of any issues anymore. It's been 7 years since my last visit and immediately upon my return I was greeted by a couple faces that I recognized from back when I used to frequent this establishment. The dining area and the deli counter appeared to be very clean. The staff working the deli counter were typical of jewish delis... "YEAH YEAH, WHATCHA NEED?"... You're not ready, no problem they'll move onto someone else before you have a chance to take a breathe... I don't mind this pushiness but I'd probably be happier to not feel rushed. I knew what I wanted so no problem... BUT when I took my order over to the cashier to pay I realized I forgot something; I didn't bother but had I not been rushed I would've had time to get that missed item and I probably would've inquired about other items... just more money to spend but oh well Quality of the food, that was spot on.... bagels were perfect, our lox spread was excellent, the chopped liver and whitefish salads were excellent (not cheap but really well worth the cost spent; roughly 20 dollars for a pound of whitefish salad) Bottomline, this place has earned my business back. read more
