I've been a loyalist to the Bagelsmith on Lorimer since I moved to New York many moons ago. This location offers pretty much the same thing, but I've not found their game is up to speed to Lorimer. To start, the space is teeny tiny, which is fine, it's Bedford. However, what is not fine is being packed in like sardines on a Sunday morning when everyone else is hungover and trying not to lose it. This Bagelsmith has the whole works when it comes to bagels (everything, cinnamon raisin, etc.) as well as an array of cream cheeses. So many possibilities. They also have sandwich combos you can choose from if you're not sure. The bagels are good, but sometimes you'll get dud - a tiny lil bagel. Need a drink? There's an open fridge with plenty of options, from juices, to tea, to fancy fruit cups and yogurt. Service can be hit-or-miss. Some employees are super duper friendly, whereas some employees barely acknowledge your existence as you're ordering. Not anything to make a fuss over though, it's a bagel shop. In nyc I am lucky enough to expect the best of the best when it comes to bagels, so this can probably be taken with that in mind. Bagels are dry, sandwiches have almost no ingredients on them. The wait is awkwardly long in a tiny space. The staff was friendly enough. Location is great and super convenient by the L train on Bedford. I ordered an egg and cheese on wheat everything bagel. The order was incorrect and it had meat on it. Unfortunately, I'm a vegetarian. So this wasn't ideal, but it happens. However, as I waited 20 minutes in their tiny store, I saw several other orders come out incorrect. It was kind of a mess. Iced coffee was good but they ran out of almond milk. Went in after a tough workout at the gym. I bought a dozen bagels and pound of cream cheese... did I say it was a tough workout?? Don't worry, they were shared with the fam. But the paper bag smelled so so good and was nice and warm to hug in the winter cold. I ordered half everything and half pumpernickel garlic. That smell was so enticing! These bagels are so big and round, a little chewy shell on the outside (but not the kind you have to pull your teeth out to tear) and fluffy on the inside. I went here today based on my best friend's recommendation. I want to start by saying that the blueberry bagel I purchased was solid and worth the trip. The service was absolutely atrocious! I ordered a blueberry bagel with blueberry cream cheese and received a blueberry bagel with plain cream cheese. I ordered an ice coffee with hazelnut syrup, Oatmilk, and sugar. The first rendition looked like dirty water. The second rendition which had half and half added tasted like water. The third rendition, which I asked to have remade, tasted like ever so slightly sweetened water with cream. Finally, I ordered a chocolate chip muffin which the young man at the cash register asked me to repeat but still managed to give me a carrot cake muffin (I only realized that hours later after I got home). The cashier rang me up and never told me what my total was and didn't offer me a receipt. Maybe others haven't had my experience but I would say that The Bagelsmith will have to be a hard pass for me the next time I have a bag cravin. read more

What a shop! If you need a bagel and you're in the hood, have a stop at Bagelsmith! Honestly one of the best bagels I've had whilst in New York. Seeing the name flash by while walking down Bedford Avenue drew me in. The outside of the shop looks like it got stuck in somewhere in the 50' or 60' even though it was established in 2000. The baristas are friendly, kind and incredibly helpful in assisting me customize my order. After a lovely chat with both people behind the counter, I ended up with a delicious Everything bagel with egg, turkey and cream cheese... in other words, heaven on my tongue. I have no doubt that anything made in the kitchen here is wonderful! The only thing missing here is a toilet. Hence why I gave it 4 stars. Otherwise it's perfect. If only I lived in Williamsburg, I'd be here more often. Until then, I won't be seeing any real stars here at home, in Hollywood. read more

Just like Jess, I was also way overcharged for a bagel. I ordered a simple bacon, egg and cheese and was charged $7.35. I was questioned why I was charged this much and the girl told me with an attitude that it was simply tax. I agreed and paid thinking it would be a phenomenal sandwich. However when I received it, I immediately knew there is no way this sandwich should cost this much. For the quality of the bagel sandwich I got, this is absolutely despicable. I wasn't the only one with this issue either. A woman who was behind me in line also questioned why she was paying way more than usual. I've been here before and it wasn't this horrible, so I'm wondering if they got a new counter person or cook. I have only written a handful of reviews, and only do so when it's necessary. I don't review to warn others (even thought it helps) but I review so that business can be better and thrive. Sadly, as you will read below, I don't think anything would really motivate the staff here. 2 stars because the food was actually good! The rest is a freakin disaster. 1. Woman behind the counter is very unfriendly. I thought it was just once so I let it slide, but It's happened the 3-4 times I've been there. Complete turn off. 2. The price for a bacon egg and cheese on a bagel is absurd. I would not mind paying that price if they : - used more than one (1) small egg -Used more than 1 slice of bacon - the bagels were bigger. Most places in New York are double the size 3. In a pinch I wanted to stop here this morning because of convenience and the sign on the door said "we do not open at 7". Okay, that's fair. But It was 8:15 and the door was locked still. The previous mentioned staff didn't even come to explain. They just kind of looked at me and another potential customer. Just a disaster all around. I'm the type of Person that will go to a place over and over again if the food is good and the people are friendly. I think if I got a different kind I would have been more content. The shop was small with a line almost out the door. My friend and I were able to snag two seats (there's only 4 seats in the shop) to eat our bagels and watch all the hipsters walk by. The hipster scene isn't really.... my thing I realized. Since I don't know the ropes regarding bagels, I ordered exactly what my local buddy got, which was an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese and lox. Wow. It was really good. My husband said his plain bagel with sun dried tomato cream cheese was delicious too. I was also impressed that they have a pretty serious breggfast menu too. This would make me happy if I lived here because when I'm not on vacation I prefer to eat fewer carbs. One of the best bagels I've had in a good while. The place is right next to the Bedford metro stop so it's a great location. Small space but relatively clean and staff is well equipped. Drink selections are great! Limited seating but if you can grab one do so, it's comfortable and a good people watching spot. Speed is essential and for a quality toasted bagel I barley waited. Price is also decent with it being under 5.00, for some reason other places charge more for bread and cheese but that's another story. The bagel is soft and slightly chewy with a good skin. Came out warm, not hot, perfect to eat without getting a blister. Olive cream cheese was well mixed with plenty of olives. Great texture and flavor. It's a simple thing to eat in the morning and easy for a commute, even on a subway? Not a place to take people but if you ever want a bagel to eat, this is it. read more

I accidentally stumbled upon this place a little over 2 years ago when I was lost in Williamsburg. I'm glad I did! I've been making it a point to come here to grab breakfast or a few bagels to take home whenever I find myself in this neck of the woods. It's a no-frills storefront that's perfect for getting some bagels to go or a sandwich, with one row of high top seats up at the front window, also conveniently located right next to the Bedford Ave L stop (and only 1 stop away from East Village Manhattan). The bagels pass the test for the perfect New York City handmade bagel with flying colors; the right consistency of crackly, glossy outer crust with a thick, chewy center. You have a wide array of schmears and spreads to choose from (including some yummy tofu spreads). The sandwiches are also fairly large with an ample amount of topping. The bacon, egg, and cheese on the everything bagel is my personal favorite. I also thoroughly enjoy the whitefish salad as well. The iced coffee pairs well with the food, though it's a little on the weaker side. Luckily, the cooler in the front has a large assortment of different beverages. Service for me has never been an issue here. Even when the line is spanning out the door in the middle of a breakfast rush, the wait time between waiting in line to order and receiving my food has never been more than 10 minutes or so. Obviously if your order is super elaborate with a myriad of modifications, especially in the middle of a rush, you're going to be waiting longer. read more
