Upon arrival, we were greeted with warm cookies, ice water, and the soft sound of a piano while waiting to be checked in by guest services. It instantly made you feel warm, cozy, and welcome. There was even a happy hour taking place while we waited, perhaps I just arrived at the perfect time. Everything felt charming and thoughtfully done. From the lobby up to our suite, the hotel exuded classic Charleston charm. From the brass accents to the bedroom details. The suite was a reasonable size for two people sharing a double bed room, especially for a short turnaround stay. The colors, the view, there was nothing more I could have asked for. Guest services was attentive and very pleasant, and the door staff greeted us with genuine smiles. Overall, no complaints on service. There were a couple of drawbacks. The elevators were extremely slow and made some strange noises. The bathroom, as others on Yelp have described, felt like a "Tetris puzzle"you had to maneuver carefully between the sink, toilet, and tub. The tub itself was quite small, especially for a larger person. However, no one really vacations just to stay in their room. The hotel's location is unbeatable, right in downtown Charleston, with everything within perfect walking distance. Knowing what I know now, I would not let the few negatives outweigh the many positives of this quaint and charming hotel.

Her Dr reviewed her latest labs and told her if she stayed close he would discharge her. Immediately we looked into what hotels in Charleston had the most comfortable beds since she would have to stay in bed most of the day. Several came up but we had not stayed at the Dewberry before and our research said they had very comfortable beds, so we decided to book our 4 day stay. We could not have chosen a better place to visit. Sure this mid century modern hotel sits in a prime location in downtown Charleston, is gorgeous with an elegant atmosphere and beautiful roof top Bar, The Citrus Club, but ALL of their staff are exceptional and made us feel like royalty. I cannot remover all the names but Maria and Suzy at the front desk, Roxana and Maria in Housekeeping, along with the Valet and restaurant staff we so welcoming and accommodating. The biggest difference this time around was staying with two friends instead of solo and for two nights instead of one. We booked a larger room with two queen beds and a fold-out couch which gave us plenty of space to spread out. The bathroom was also a nice size, making it pretty easy for three people to get ready without being too cramped. Oh, and the robes! So relaxing. One of my favorite things about Emeline continues to be the common spaces. The lobby is gorgeous, the outdoor terrace is a wonderful place to relax especially in the evenings, and I still love having Clerks Coffee Co. and Frannie & The Fox right on the property. This visit, we also took advantage of the complimentary bicycles, which were easy to reserve and a fun way to explore Charleston early in the morning. We also used the free drink coupon at a sister hotel/bar. The staff was friendly throughout our stay and everything was and welcoming. My only minor complaint was that the elevator seemed a little... temperamental... at times, but nothing that significantly impacted our stay. The only thing I'd encourage future guests to be aware of is the parking fee. It's pretty standard for downtown Charleston, but definitely worth factoring into your budget ahead of time. Between the beautiful boutique atmosphere, unbeatable location, thoughtful amenities, and inviting common spaces, Emeline is a fantastic place to stay in Charleston. I wouldn't hesitate to book here again on my next visit.

The property has a distinct sense of character, it feels elevated without being stiff, stylish without trying too hard, and genuinely warm in a way that makes you want to linger. What stood out most was the balance of design and hospitality. Every space felt curated, from the interiors to the overall experience of moving through the hotel. There is a softness and charm to Emeline that makes it feel memorable, not just visually, but emotionally. It is the kind of place that gives you a sense of ease the moment you walk in. The location is also a true advantage. There is the convenience of wonderful eateries all around, a market right across the street, and even the boat ferry within a beautiful walking distance. That made the stay feel not only elegant, but easy, connected, and enjoyable. We enjoyed such a lovely mix of nearby experiences during our stay. At Frannie and The Fox, we had a delicious pizza, sat in the courtyard, and enjoyed the simple pleasure of hearing conversations around us and watching families enjoy one another. We also ate at Kaminsky's, TBonz, and the pizzeria just down the street. There was so much more we could have done, but even with only a two-day stay, it still felt full, memorable, and eventful. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, the kind of comfort that makes you sink in, exhale, and immediately feel at ease. It honestly felt like sleeping on a cloud, and I definitely understood the temptation to want the entire mattress to come home with me. The team was gracious, professional, and accommodating throughout my stay. That level of attentiveness always makes the difference, and it certainly did here. It felt as though care had been given not only to the design of the property, but also to the guest experience itself. Emeline offers the kind of stay that feels both intimate and polished, which is rare. It captures the spirit of Charleston beautifully while still feeling current, intentional, and distinct. I left feeling refreshed, inspired, and very grateful for the experience. A beautiful property, a wonderful team, and a stay I would absolutely recommend.

You're only as strong as your weakest link…read more I've stayed in many hotels for both work and personal travel. The nice amenities, decent gym and friendly staff are what creates the environment for a pleasant experience. Two of these were met and the friendly staff, was mostly there. . .but one sour apple truly changed the course of our stay. Even my wife, who worked once upon a time in hospitality at Kiawah Resort, was started by the interactions from The Loutrel Hotel staff member. Long story short. The daily complimentary breakfast was served. I accidentally went to place the granola lid on the yogurt, my wife told me that was the wrong lid and I went to correct. From across the room the breakfast attendant yelled, "sir that doesn't go there." Startled, I immediately removed it and placed it accordingly. I laughed it off. Moments later I went to sit my breakfast down where my drink was located. Same attendant, "you're not even sitting at the right table with your wife." Again, my error, but don't call me out twice in one morning. It's a small lobby, so many staff members overheard the interaction. Nothing was done by other management. The next morning, I walked down to look at breakfast. I saw the same attendant and said, good morning. She looked at me but wasn't pleasant in her response. Unlike the rest of her colleagues at the restaurant who are polite and kind, the same customer service I expect and provide to my customers. Breakfast offered salmon with some type of eggs or shellfish. I can't eat shellfish, allergic. So, I went to grab a biscuit at a local coffee shop and a coffee. We came back to the hotel and sat our food down. The same rude attendant came over, nudged my wife in her back and said, "you can't have this here, cross contamination." So, I left. Allowed my wife to eat her yogurt in the area. Funny enough, my wife asked where the utensils were, because every table had them. Same attendant rudely, pointed to another table for her to get them. I should have just sat down and ate my food as I didn't see any signs for "no outside food." Either way, stay somewhere else. It's unfortunate that a hotel like this allows such rudeness from a staff member. I did report this to the manager, and online but was met with more passivity. Comped two nights of valet. Honestly, it wasn't enough. I would never stay here again and it ended the trip on such a sour note.
