I ordered delivery and got the veggie pad Thai. Pad Thai is my culinary measuring stick when trying new Thai restaurants. It was decent, but just mediocre. They did get the spice level right. The vinegar was just overwhelming on the celery and carrots and there weren't many peanuts. I'd rank Malaya Kitchen, Thai House and Thai Taste higher for Pad Thai. Perhaps this was a one off. I'd give them another shot. read more

I've worked in Ballantyne for a few years and never knew this place existed, but am glad I found it now! Went in for lunch and the place was packed, seeming to be a hot spot for business lunches. The server was very quick to take my order and brought me a delightful cup of their "house soup". I don't know what it was exactly, but it seemed like a spin on a chicken and rice. It was a tasty start to he meal. As for lunch, I went with the 2 sushi rolls and that did not disappoint. The sushi was very fresh and made to order. Each lunch dish also comes with a spring roll and it was just the right amount of crispyness to go with the light lunch. (3/21/15) Ok, so its been awhile since we were last here, but I have thought about it a lot. I'm having a great Thai tea cool & sweet. We ordered a variety of appetizers including beef satay, fried tofu, steamed dumplings and a bowl of Tom kha for me. My wife is having the beef with wide noodles again and I'm trying the red curry. The one consistent thing that we both noticed about our dishes was that the meat was overcooked in every single dish! Not good. With the exception of the meat everything was excellent. read more

Just wanted to give a quarantine update as I thought I would die without a sushi roll the on Tuesday. I ordered a Ballantyne sushi roll and an order of lettuce rolls, and Postmates delivered my PERFECT lunch in no time flat! I'm always just so very impressed by the attention to detail in the food. I was (honestly) very concerned about ordering a sushi roll for a delivery... but it showed up as perfect as it would've on my plate at the restaurant... The lettuce rolls ended up in my fridge and made a PERFECT lunch on Wednesday! I cannot wait to order again... possibly tonight! Where to start-I guess with my repeat order of the Thom Ka soup and the chicken wings-the chicken soup is made with coconut milk, lemon grass and cilantro and is topped with a spicy red oil that really opened my sinuses. The chicken wings are crisp and served with a sweet and sour dipping sauce. They always have special sushi offerings that are fresh and are served beautifully on long white platters. We also have had sashimi and it has also been fresh and beautifully sliced. Casual dress, private parking lot, give this one a try when you are in the Ballantyne area. read more

It's expensive for what you get. Food is on the milder side of spicy. somewhat limited thai menu. (haven't tried their sushi). Little over cooked (was their during a slow time). I don't have much to compare it to in this town yet though. read more

Stopped by to pick up some of the clear spring rolls with shrimp as a snack. They were a bit small. They don't normally serve the peanut sauce with them here so you have to ask. The panang chicken curry was also pretty good and is served with white rice. read more

Me and my shortys were in the area & we were craving some solid Thai food. Come across is place in front of a YUGE fountain, closest one with high ratings on yelp I said why not let's give it a shot. Once again I ordered takeout due to frail America for not opening up the states already(covid-19) I will tell you not the best Thai food I had but it hit the expectation. I always order pad Thai tofu every time I walk through a Thai restaurant, no question. I was satisfied with the mixture of mushrooms and tofu in there. Typically people throw more noodles than anything. The spring rolls were solid for their price. Not to mention they give you 4 rather than 2. Def worth the buck. The most impressive moment about this take out was that we spent about an hour to get back to my apartment to eat & here I am thinking "shit I might need to microwave this food now" but let alone I opened up my to go container & that bitch was HOT. never needed a microwave, food stayed hot and fresh just like we all like it. One evening I was coming home from the airport and was craving Thai food in the worst way. This place was close to the freeway and had been reviewed buy a few friends so I decided to give it a try. I am fairly new to eating Thai food, but know a good pad thai from a bad one and so I was hopeful that this would be better than several, less-than-stellar iterations I've had locally recently. Upon entering the restaurant, I was immediately greeted and seated but I noticed it was freezing cold and it was uncomfortable for at least 10 minutes while I was trying to decide what to eat. Fortunately the restaurant was very clean and pleasant in every other way, as was my server. Pleasant that is! I am happy to say that I was pleased with the pad thai ordered as well as the Philadelphia Maki roll I had as an appetizer. Both items came quickly and my pad thai was hot and had just the right amount of heat. I asked for a level 2, and it was enough that my gums were tingly 10 minutes after I finished eating. LOL The sushi roll was adequate for its price range and the fish was fresh and tasty. It was perfect for an appetizer or for including in a multi roll meal. I only wish they had garnished the pad thai with a few more fresh vegetables or something to take away from the fact that it was just Pad Thai heaped on a plate. A simple Improvement in presentation would go a long way. The food was good enough that I will consider returning on my next trip to the airport to try something else, which is more than I can say from several restaurants I've tried recently! I give it 4 stars because I have not yet felt like it was out of this world. I will reevaluate after eating there a few more times. read more

I ordered the crispy duck. The flavor was wonderful, but the duck was overcooked and drier than a very well done steak. Juices should run clear and the meat should be served medium rare, but there was no juice and no pink. It is my guess that the duck was cooked hours earlier and then reheated when an order was placed. It is an expensive dish to be as bad as it was, unfortunately. read more

An overall decent experience here. I always get the pad kee mao...and forget that they do not ever give enough noodles. I need to ask for extra next time. The favor is good, spice level 4, although next time I will try 5. They serve a little tray with 5 different sauces, which I hadn't experienced before. Very delicious! Try the green one..yum! Very spicy though. I had mango sticky rice for dessert..they used a green tea rice?! Why? I don't know because it was honestly disgusting. Yuck! Days later I can still taste the grossness. Please use white rice! The service was good. Good sweet tea. Friendly and fast waitress. The food come out very quickly which is great! The sushi was pretty good too. read more

Entering inside you would notice it's not any regular Dark and Gloomy Thai restaurant that has dimmed lights - instead it's the opposite - large windows, well spaced tables, spacious booths and a really big bar area. The menu is a regular Thai - Appetizers, Curries, Stir Fry and Pad Thai. One surprising section though was Japanese! And even more surprising was the Sushi Menu that came with its own card! I wasn't ready to try a sushi at a Thai restaurant so went with the usual Thai dishes. We got some coconut soups to start with - The soup was flavorful but loaded with a ton of veggies which will make you 'eat' the soup rather thank 'drink' the soup. For entree, we decided to order three dishes and share between ourselves so we don't get bored. We got some fried rice, pad Thai and paneng curry. The service was quick and our waitress kept checking our table often. The taste was not exceptional and rather blend without having any real kick to it. The Pad Thai seemed okay but it was too sweet for my taste buds. The paneng curry was a let down - felt like they added too much peanuts over coconut in the curry that made you feel like drinking a bowl of watery peanut butter! Overall it is the kind restaurant where you could enjoy the ambience and the hospitality but the taste of the food is little too bland that makes you think about not bookmarking this restaurant! read more

This used to be one of our favorite places to eat but not now. We ate there last night and the food was absolutely awful. The curry is so thin it barely stuck to the chicken and veggies and the teriyaki was even thinner almost watery. The menu has been changed and the prices have increased which if the quality of the food was better the price wouldn't be an issue. It very doubtful that we will be back. read more

What thai is it? It's THAI TIME!!! Thai food is amongst my favorites of cuisines. A bite of any of the dish at Banh Thai will have you tasting the exoticness of Thailand right here in North Carolina. How much better can it get?! Our waitress was very friendly, and the service was great. The only thing I would change is the lack of variety on the menu. There aren't a whole lot of options when it comes to the curry dishes. They are each delicious nonetheless! :) read more

Was in the area for an appointment and so glad I found this place. Service was quick, courteous and helpful. Lunch specials were reasonably priced, nice portions and quite yummy. They will ask for your spice level. I chose a 2 out of 5, which wasn't much heat at all. Next time I'll go up a spice level, because I will likely return! read more

Came here for takeout sushi on a weekday. I got the snowflake roll and a side salad with ginger dressing. It was close to 2:30 pm and they were getting ready to close. Not only did they not shoo me out, but they also helped me with my order. The snowflake roll was delicious, and reminded me of the mermaid roll I usually get. The salad was very big and the dressing was edible, but I've had better ginger dressing. Very nice! Can't wait to come back. read more

My family and I have been going to Bahn Thai for quite some time now and we always have a great experience. The restaurant is a mixture of Japanese and Thai Cuisine, and it does a phenomenal job with both of them. I am going to review my experience with their lunch specials (served until 2:30pm). Overall, this is definitely a place to go for lunch specials if you're trying to get a lot of delicious food for a great value. When we arrived, the restaurant was not too packed and we were seated immediately. The ambiance was good and there are TVs throughout the restaurant if you want to watch sports. The waiter was very kind and refilled our waters in a timely manner. For the Thai Dishes, you have the option of choosing your level of spiciness (scale of 1-5). As someone who likes somewhat spicy food and experience, a 2 is enjoyable while a 3 is right at the point just before it becomes uncomfortable. For food, we ordered sushi and their lunch special is 2 rolls for $9.99 along with soup and a spring roll... pretty hard deal to beat! The soup was a rice soup decent, not too flavorful, but appetizing. The spring roll was great and compliments well with the sweet and sour sauce. The sushi though (crunchy shrimp roll and California Roll)... was DELICIOUS! I was surprised that I was able to get sushi of that taste and quality for that price. For my main course, I had the pud kee mow ($8.99) with chicken since I was craving noodles and also since the dish was rich in vegetables. For the lunch special, it comes with a spring roll, sweet and sour sauce, and soup. The dish had just the right amount of noodles to allow you to also taste the vegetables, egg and chicken. The sauce was tasty and made the dish complete. I would definitely order this again in the future. For dessert, we had the fried banana with ice cream which was delicious. Not healthy, but you'll feel less guilty if you share it with someone else. In the end, I left the restaurant feeling full and satisfied without feeling that I had just spent a fortune. read more

The quality of food has degraded since my last visit. We ordered the Ban thai role and it had a strong fishy flavor. Not pleasant at all. The order dish we ordered was Pad Kee Mow with Chicken and trust me I couldnt eat after a bite. The chicken had a bad smell, ruined the dish. Not coming back again. read more

Meh....Not very good Tom Kha or Green Curry....too sweet.....the veggies in the curry looked like cubed ones out of a can. Just not very flavorful and small portion. I'd save yourself the trip and go to Thai House or VietThai Noodle House up the road instead. read more

I loooved their GAENG KIE (c5): red curry in coconut milk with pineapples. It's a sweeter curry that comes with rice and it was delicious I'm craving it right now just thinking about it. They also have really good pad see ew, pad Thai, and chicken wings! I highly recommend and the staff is sweet and attentive. read more

The basil duck was outstanding, the red curry was rich and flavorful, and the ginger chicken was another favorite at our table. Every dish arrived fresh, hot, and beautifully prepared. The cocktails were equally impressive. Colorful, creative, and well-balanced, they paired perfectly with the bold flavors coming out of the kitchen. Finally the sauce wasn't as sweet as o was used to. The recipe is usually made with a SWEET soy sauce. This was clearly regular soy sauce and quite honestly it tasted good first bit but there was a weird aftertaste that I can't describe which made me want to stop eating it even though the first bite was ok. Not sure what that aftertaste was but I'm not a fan and will probably never go back to try something else there. I'm gonna go gargle with Listerine now. The tofu soaked up all that flavor beautifully. I also ordered a pineapple red curry with pork at spice level 3. The curry itself was fantastic -- creamy, rich, loaded with pineapple, and really flavorful. I will say the spice level was pretty mild for a "3," so I added my own chilies at home to kick it up a notch. My only critique was the pork, which was a little dry and tough for my liking. I'm pretty particular about proteins and don't really do white meat chicken either, so next time I may try tofu or another option instead. The good news? The portions are generous, everything was packed nicely, and my order was hot and ready exactly when promised -- about 10 to 12 minutes after I called. Parking is easy right in front, and since it's takeout-only, it makes for a super quick and convenient dinner stop. Even though some longtime favorites like the satay seem to be gone, the new menu looks extensive and exciting enough that I'll absolutely be back to eat my way through it. I've had takeout from here before and liked it (one of the Thai dishes). My veggie sushi roll when I dined was perfect. Service was perfect. The only thing I wished for was a few more vegan options on the menu as I expect a little more variety at an Asian fusion restaurant. Cute front patio set up too, when al fresco dining is on the brain.

Very prompt and friendly staff made the night even more special. I was treated to complimentary "fried milk" for my birthday hand delivered by one of the chefs.
