I usually don't "come heavy" on a first time review, but this needs to be said: Good food isn't enough for a high rating. Service & integrity is half the process. The food last night was quality; the pad thai, jalapeño beef, spring rolls, shrimp fried rice, etc ... all kicked ass & we took home plenty of Sunday dinner/Saturday leftovers. So here's my 'suggestion/watch out' negative to all who read this - 8 minutes to serve the apps - not bad. But then nothing from a waitress with 2 tables who were already eating. We were her only other table. The apps were followed by 35 min to deliver 6 plates of rice & noodles ... that's unacceptable. I suggest your staff be trained better, & that the owner/manager (she was there) help out when a table is ignored like we were. There were 4 2-tops and a 3-top when we arrived, and one 3-top came in after us. We waited until after the dinner rush for a reason. So. That's my suggestion. Service speed & pacing is half the tip, if not more. Now ... (clears throat) ... here's my 'watch out' - the server handed me a bill with a 20% gratuity already on the bill; and the tax was generated ON THE TOTAL WITH THAT TIP!! No notice on the menu or anywhere about large parties & automatic tip policy. Nothing. And 2 adults + 4 kids (ages 6-12) with no high chairs ... that's not a large party anywhere I've heard. Now back to the overcharge ... that's a violation worthy of mention to y'all Yelpers, & to the licensure offices in Louisville city & Jefferson County. If this business has done this previously & kept that excess tax ... that's a federal violation that can shut a restaurant forever. Now ... I don't like reporting small businesses in general nor will I report them for this tactic. But Yelpers need to know, & watch for this. This nonsense has to stop, and no amount of good food makes up for these abuses. It happens often. Be aware. Aftermath: the boss removed the gratuity when I told her what happened. She was nervous as hell (as she should've been). Her reaction gave me the feeling that either she had knowledge of this practice OR she realized her server had put her business in peril ... but she was REALLY edgy & apologetic afterwards. With all if this, I didn't use it as an excuse to NOT tip. I waited & bartended for over 20 years myself. I left 15%, which is very kind considering what they tried to pull off. But the food was excellent. I took no photos. The rooms are fairly industrial park & not much in the way of stylish. I don't count that off on the gratuity or blame employees. The boss makes that choice. She needs to address placing boxes in aisles & cleaning products here & there; it makes for less than pleasing ambiance in any eatery. I'm tempted to avoid this place, but in a week or so, I intend to go back and let the boss read this (if they don't see it sooner) and tell me what's what. I'm open to correction, so is anyone... or any business. Maybe we'll shake hands & I'll leave with a bag full of food. After all... it was good the first time, and I'm a fat bastard. I need my carbs! Quick pickup time! There's plenty of space inside for seating, but I ordered take out. The food was hot and tasted well seasoned. The Fried Rice was a great portion for the price and the steamed pork dumplings were delicious (my favorite out of the two). I will be a regular customer! Our first visit was absolutely great! Lovely and clean place. Customer service was wonderful. Our waitress checked with us frequently and made sure our glasses were full and that our food was good. It was absolutely delicious! My friends really enjoyed their drunken noodles and my pineapple fried rice chicken was great. Very flavorful and the proper texture. The rice was not too dry/overcooked as at other places. Here's a polished version of your review: I ordered takeout from this restaurant, and my husband picked it up and paid inside. The total bill came to $54 for just a few items, which seemed very high. Unfortunately, the receipt did not show the price of each item, so when I got home, I called the restaurant to ask for a breakdown of the charges. We ordered two Thai iced teas, which were $5 each, basil chicken for $18, a small papaya salad for $15, and fried tofu for $7. While the fried tofu portion was decent, I felt the basil chicken and especially the papaya salad were overpriced for the amount of food we received. The papaya salad was very small and mostly consisted of papaya and carrots. The service was okay, and the food itself tasted good. However, the Thai iced tea was disappointing and definitely not worth $5 each. Overall, I felt overcharged for what we received, and the value did not match the price. By the way I thought to give 10% for tip, but my husband saw the price for all items that I order he decided to tip $3 for them. . read more

I'll start with portions are quite small and I'm always disappointed by this (somehow I keep forgetting this when I return each time(. That said, food is decent (hit or miss depending on the dish)! We tried: - shrimp salad: fresh shrimp and great spice flavors (probably my favorite dish there) - drunken noodles: just meh. Hardly any protein. Definitely didn't see any basil - panang curry: could this dish be any smaller and lacking? They basically just gave us curry liquid. - seafood stir fry: decent except the liquid was a bit tart (could go without the imitation crab) - ginger fish: love the crispy fish filet in this dish - cashew chicken: liquid in this dish was a bit salty but the overall dish is good - Thai tea: WAY TOO SWEET I did not like that they removed the Thai names of dishes from the menu. But, I overheard a table next to me expressing great pleasure in this change. So probably the right move for their customers. Very solid Thai food! We live way down in Elizabethtown, and any time we can get very good quality food without going all the way up to Louisville, we are all about it. We just got some takeout, a good assortment of different dishes. Everything we tried was delicious, and we were constantly fighting for more bites of the others' meal. Overall great meal! We have been ordering from this restaurant for at least 5+ years. My favorite dish has always been the red curry chicken. The quality of this dish has slowing been going down, Thought I would give it one last time and it terribly FAILED! Very oily and greasy, plus the bamboo shoots were not cooked to perfection as was in the past. Bad experience three times now. It's a smallish restaurant in a shopping center, but very welcoming inside. Plenty of friendly staff and we were able to sit along the side wall. Maybe 6-8 tables inside, so it's a intimate space. When went on a cold night so when Thai tea was suggested i immediately said yes! To our surprise, it's a cold Thai tea - kind of like boba thai tea, so with sweet milk. It was a huge glass and we could have shared it. Also, like a dessert drink. We ordered the fried chicken wings and sampler platter to start with. The chicken wings were crispy and fried to perfection. I think there were five in the order, but they were delicious. I would 100% order them again! The sampler platter was good too, but compared to the rest of the food wasn't the highlight. It came with spring rolls, dumplings and chicken satay. For our entrees we ordered the basil fried rice and the basil vegetarian drunken noodles. The main entrees arrived extremely quick and were fresh and tasty. The vegetarian noodles had lots of fresh vegetables and I would 100% get it again. The vegetables weren't over cooked, so they were bright and crisp. Was in the area & thought dinner sounded better than sitting in traffic. Bahn Thai was the top rated so I checked it out. I would say it's more a mix of Thai and Chinese but Americanized. I had the appetizer sampler & pad see ew (nothing on their menu has Thai names) which is called sweet noodle with pork on their menu. Food was decent although I wouldn't eat the shu mei or chicken skewer on sampler again (overcooked) but the crab Rangoon was better than most as it was hot so cream cheese was smooth. Basic Thai food with friendly service. I love Thai food but this was not nearly the spicy Southeast Asian cuisine I adore. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't that good. The spring rolls were delicious and I enjoyed the sauces they served with the rolls, but the soup and Pad Thai were both under-seasoned and lacking depth of flavor. Sala Thai provides customers with authentic, delicious Thai food at a reasonable price. The restaurant is quaint with a decent size dining area with a good amount of seating. My wife and I decided to try a variety of items, I recommend the sampler appetizer. It has a nice selection of apps to enjoy. My wife had a spicy chicken soup and I chose the red curry, spice level spicy. They both had a nice amount of heat and were full of flavor. First time here and it was pretty good. We have a thing where we try the Pad Thai in every Thai restaurant to see how they rank. The Pad Thai here wasn't the best, but far from the worst. The noodles had a good texture to it but it did lack some flavor. Possibly more sauce will help? We also got the Beef Salad which tasted great. The amount of beef was great, not so much of the salad part though. Portion size was a bit smaller than other beef salads. Also purchased a Thai Tea, very good. This was a new place for us so we decided to try it after seeing it on Yelp. The beef salad was pretty good ($11) and had a good flavor to it however the bottom of it was a little salty since the beef and veggies were sitting in the sauce for a while but it was still very good. There was a lot of beef which made it worth the price. The pad thai ($11) was okay compared to some other places I've been to. On a recommendation from a friend we tried Sala Thai. Located off Bardstown rd and easy to find in Glen Mary Plaza. Sala is seat yourself with table service. Our server was prompt and friendly, I had not eaten Thai before so I asked what was the favorite and most popular dishes? I was told all dishes come from a family recipe. Sala is a family owned and operated restaurant. Our server is also family and said her grandmother comes in from time to time to make sure her recipes remain true to the family. I thought how great! A family restaurant with a single location, "Is as local as it comes". I always like to support local businesses, We ordered a couple entree's of a spicy curried chicken and a Chicken pineapple fried rice with tender spring rolls served with a spicy red chili and a mild sweet green sauce. Oh My! Every bite was delicious! I'm now a huge fan of Thai. Note heat level is as mild or hot as you like. The serving sizes are generous and recommend coming with a healthy appetite.
