Simply Thai is incredible! The vibe is very casual. Chill lo-fi beats in the bar area where we waited for takeout. The guy running the register was super helpful! He knew the ingredients of every dish and was able to help us meet our dietary needs. Highly recommended for gluten free, df, egg free, vegan! They can make everything on the menu (except for things that are fried and the yellow curry) gluten free!! The pineapple curry is to die for!!!!! I could eat it every single day!!! It's easy to make it vegan too! I get it with vegetables and spice level 3. One thing I will say is if you're ordering takeout on a Saturday night it will take all of 40 minutes for pickup. read more

I dined at Simply Thai on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at 6 pm. I'm a lover of Thai food and have eaten at and reviewed many Thai restaurants on Yelp. I checked the reviews and menu online and thought this place looked promising. Unfortunately, I was sorely mistaken because this was one of the worst Thai restaurants I have ever been to due to its lack of authenticity and quality. First of all, how can an authentic Thai restaurant not have a spice tray with basic chili peppers and spices. I asked the server and he gave me a confusing look because they didn't have one. Secondly, the restaurant failed in executing one of the most traditional Thai dishes that any good Thai restaurant can serve. If you want to judge the authenticity of a Thai restaurant, order one of the Thai staple stir fry noodles like pad Thai or drunken noodle or pad se ew. I ordered the pad se ew with beef and it was very saucy and wet. The beef was bland and tasted like it was boiled or steamed instead of charred on a hot wok. Not only was I able to discern that the dish was not cooked long or hot enough based on the beef and noodles, I also tasted raw garlic throughout the dish. The shrimp spring roll appetizer was fresh. The size of the roll is larger than average because the veggie to shrimp ratio was rather large in my opinion, so I thought it could be rolled a little bit smaller. Service was average. My server was nice and attentive. He gave me a to-go box without me asking. But I had zero intentions of bringing it out of the restaurant. The food came out in reasonable time given how busy they were. Overall, I'm sure there are better options for Thai food than Simply Thai. But if this is one of the best Louisville has to offer for Thai food, folks should consider traveling out of state to reevaluate their standards. I definitely won't be returning. So food is always good and service is good as well, but today 08/26/2025 around 7:35 pm my wife and I walked in and a young Asian female with glasses was sitting at the register in front of everyone picking her nose, rolling looking at her fingers and then picked the outside of her nose on the sides, again inspecting what she found. She continued touching her nose even when she saw me looking, then I had to ask her to please wash her hands as she was taking a pad with a bill in it and going to hand it back. She looked at me if I was rude. We sat for a few minutes and thought it would be best to just leave. Wouldn't you know it, she was still doing it when I walked out. I was in town for a conference with a group, and we were looking for good value lunch options and decided on Simply Thai. We ordered online for takeout and the food was ready by the time I made it over to pick up. I ordered the pad Thai with chicken and 4/5 spice, which came as a very large portion in a takeout container. I thought that the flavor of the pad Thai was very good, although it was not really spicy at all. Other friends got the Massaman curry, the green curry fried rice, etc. I also enjoyed the extra chili oil we were able to order on the side as a way to increase the spice level. We all enjoyed our meal and paid around $12 after tax for the food, which was an excellent value for the quantity and quality of the food we received. Simply Thai has long been a favorite for our family. Recent changes, unfortunately, have us disappointed and confused. The usually flavorful pineapple fried rice was bland and as dry as sawdust when last ordered. My daughter found a very long hair in her red curry with this same order. My other daughter has quit ordering curry from Simply Thai all together because the taste has changed and not in a good way. I'm not sure why the restaurant decided to make these changes. The ambiance was warmly. beautifully and pleasantly comfortable. Service was not superb...it was a busy evening...lots of customers for the waiting staff to accommodate. FOCUSING ON THE FOOD: Unfortunately, the menu didn't offer any of the appetizers I'm used to ordering at Thai restaurants. However, The menu introduced an appetizer that I never had called Money Bags, and they were delicious. My nephew and his wife who live in Louisville) dined with me. They had never eaten Thai food; so, along with the delicious Money Bags' appetizer, we ordered a variety of food items. With the exception of being satisfied with our delicious appetizer selections-chicken wings' and money bags, and one of the tasty Thai soup selections (can't remember which one)--unfortunately, we weren't impressed with our entree selections. The Panang curry with chicken was totally disappointing--it's curry flavor was compromised with an overwhelming amount of veggies dominated by an abundance of carrots; the crispy chicken fried rice had a thick and dry consistency, and there was actually too much of it...disappointed again; and the whole fish selection (forgot the name) proved to be a horrible eating experience--extremely dry and hard, was exhaustingly difficult to remove the very dry and possibly days old meat from its bones; the cocktails we ordered were not to our liking. In conclusion, we were overall displeased with our dining experience at this popular restaurant. However, the restaurant was busy with patrons who appeared to be extremely happy with their experiences. So, don't let my review keep you from dining at this popular restaurant. Just ordered DoorDash from Simply Thai because we used to love food from there. Our order tonight was very disappointing; the shrimp dumplings were fantastic, and the mango sticky rice was beautiful, but our entrees were not good. The pad Thai was just noodles - very few of the veggies, meat or toppings that make pad thai so delicious (we ordered chicken). Medium spicy was bland. The basil rice was greasy and oily, and I couldn't taste the basil. The chicken in the rice was good though - very tender and juicy. Just not flavorful. We may try again but was very sad to not enjoy what was a fairly pricey order. read more

Quality seems to have slipped. My friend and I went there yesterday. She ordered pad thai, and what came was monochrome noodles with some shrimp tossed on top. I love Thai food and have been to many good Thai places across the country throughout my travels. I don't know how much I can speak to authenticity, but I know what my tongue and palette like . At Simply Thai, I got the chicken pineapple fried rice and chicken kaow soi, both spice level 3 (out of 5). I liked the pineapple fried rice. It was very good and came in a pineapple which was cool. Portion size was decent too. The kaow soi was alright. The curry was quite watery and the noodles were wheat noodles. This kept it from really picking up the tastes of the curry, which made it a little blander than I would have liked. Simply Thai is always busy, but the servers are very nice and attentive despite the busyness. It's got a lot of seating, but once again is always busy, so you have to go early to beat the rush! They do, however, usually have extra seating available at the bar even if you don't order a drink, as long as you're over 21. The restaurant has a great environment with a lot of cultural decorations that spice up the place. A friend from out of town wanted some Thai and I knew that Simply Thai had gluten-free and dairy-free options so we ended up going to the St. Matthews location. The restaurant was extraordinarily clean, which I love. With being gluten-free and dairy-free I always have to ask lots of questions, but not here! Everything on the menu is marked with a symbol beside it whether it can be made gluten-free, or vegetarian or vegan!! *** NOTE: You do have to tell the server you want it either gluten-free, vegetarian, or vegan, the dishes are not originally cooked in this manner. We shared shrimp spring rolls with peanut sauce, which are both naturally gluten-free and dairy-free, and they were super fresh and delectable. My friend ordered the Tom Yum, of which I tasted, and will definitely order next time. It was the perfect combination of sweet and tart. She also ordered the Massaman Curry and said it was really good, they even accommodated and added cashews to it as well. I ordered the Pad See Iew, without egg, and gluten-free, and it was truly one of the best orders of this favorite of mine. The noodles were perfectly cooked, the broccoli was the right tenderness with just enough bite to it and not soggy and the chicken was moist and the entire dish was flavored just right. I am new to the area and placed an online order and specifically requested peanut sauce on the side. After picking it up and driving to my rental several miles away I discovered no peanut sauce!!! I called and was told by the manager that it should've been ordered separately and is a charge item but I did not see that option as I didn't scroll further thinking I was done. I am in Louisville, where I grew up, visiting family. Thai is one of my favorite cuisines and pad Thai is the dish, rightly or not, by which I Judge the quality of the restaurant. I did not pick the restaurant, as I don't live her or know the restaurants. I think 3.5 stars is a bit generous. I ordered 4 star tofu pad Thai and my niece ordered no star chicken. Although mine was marked 4 stars, they must have been novae; even after adding dried chili peppers (an American way to enhance heat in Thai food), I was able to achieve about a 2-3 star dish. It lacked aesthetic appeal, acceptable in takeout food, as well as needing bird peppers, sprouts, lime, and taste. The chicken pad Thai lacked chicken -- it too was tofu. Spring rolls were large, tasty with a nice sauce. The shrimp rolls not so much. If this is the best Thai food Louisville has to offer, its reputation as a foodie-city is sadly over-rated. read more

Simply Thai was an excellent experience. This was my first time in the space since the pandemic and the menu has been updated and it's a lot more extensive. You've got a great cocktail list. You can also make your own mule. There's plenty of appetizers and wonderful entrées and the format of the menu really helps you lay out what your options are. The end of the menu also contains sushi which might also be a great option for our entrées. We got the green curry fried rice, red curry, and pad ke meow. Our food was delicious. Everything had a great spice level, and the combination of flavors was so well done. Our service was excellent. Another great food experience at Simply Thai. I love that you can order online for curbside pickup during this pandemic. It's a very easy process. Only downside is there is usually a long estimated wait time for your order to be ready. Last night we ordered dinner relatively early, about 5 pm. It estimated food would be ready in 35-40 minutes. My husband arrived a few minutes early, and was told they were waiting on our salad. He then waited another 10 minutes for the order to come out. We ordered a ton of food, which was all delicious. We ordered the spring rolls, summer rolls with shrimp, crunchy crab roll (sushi), rainbow roll (sushi), kids pad Thai, kids fried rice, pad Thai with tofu and pad see ew with chicken! It was a feast! I love that all of their food comes in reusable plastic containers. I think it was our first time ordering the spring rolls and they were amazing. The dipping sauce was really good too. There were four rolls that were cut up. Even thought we picked up the order they were still crunchy and fresh! Would highly recommend. The summer rolls with shrimp were also tasty as usual. They were very fresh and well portioned. With the summer rolls you get two halves of a larger roll. Easy to split with someone or enjoy on your own. The sushi was amazing. The crunchy crab roll had large crab pieces of top, stuffed with avocado, cucumber, more crab and crunchy bits on top. So good! The rainbow roll had tuna and salmon on top. I'm not a big salmon fan, so my husband enjoyed it. Everything was very fresh and portions were plentiful. Now onto the entrees! We were already stuffed but kept going. The kids portions were great! We asked for non spicy and they were perfect. The pad Thai and fried rice were both delicious. Plus they have leftovers! The pad Thai with tofu was spot on. The portion was huge and the fried tofu is so delicious. My husband is a huge meat eater but loves this dish with the tofu. If you haven't tried it, we would definitely recommend. The pad see ew with chicken hit the spot. I've had at several different restaurant and we put this close to the top, it was my husband's favorite preparation. We ordered from here tonight for my sisters birthday party. Everything was wonderful. However I just wish it had been spicy. I ordered Tom kha soup and loved the coconut flavor. But missed the galangal, chili and the slight fish flavor that comes from the seafood. Guessing the shrimp are cooked separate and tossed in at the end. I would absolutely order it again. So this is a minor nit pick. But burn your face off heat is one of the things you think of when you think of Thai food. Next time I'll ask for extra spicy - 5 out of 5 for heat. Keep in mind that there is a 45-minute wait to pick-up. I went in a few minutes early, though, and was able to get my meal, which was hot. All of the staff wore masks, and everyone seemed to be trying to stay distant from one another -- another plus. Pad thai travels well for carryout. I also got spring rolls with shrimp. These were overstuffed and the rice paper split before we could eat them. I'm chalking this up to hopefully a one-time occurance considering I've gotten these before and they've been great. I dined there with friends last night 1/13/26 and I will not be going back. We arrived around 5:30 pm and thankfully they weren't that busy. After we were served drinks and ordered our food it started to get busy. We waited over an hour for our food to be served. Two in our party had their food brought out in 45 minutes then my food was brought out around 15 minutes later. It had been sitting so long it was cool to the touch. When the server delivered another of our party her plate of food, I asked if it could be reheated, the server said she would have them remake it. Ten to fifteen minutes later 2 others at our table received their food, thankfully it was hot. Ten minutes later I finally received my food and although it was hot and tasty the wait was ridiculous. My friend asked for a refill of her glass of wine, minutes later the server came back and said they were low on wine glasses and needed her wine glass. Towards the end of the meal she got a refill. Were they passing that wine glass around to others to use before my friend received her refill? Who knows. I don't know how this restaurant stays in business. read more
