    Miso Butter Corn Ramen

I took my son to have lunch at Sam's Kitchen and it was gross, so we came here and ordered miso butter corn ramen and takoyaki. We asked for the ramen to be al dente and it was perfect. The soup was ok. I will come back and try a different soup next time. My kid loved the takoyaki, he said it reminded him of the ones in Japan.

Baikohken was on my list of ramen shops to try on my last trip to Hokkaido earlier this year. Unfortunately I was unable to make it so I've been wanting to try the local shop here for a while now. I don't wander into Waikiki too often though. As the case with many of the other shops in Stix Waikiki, Baikohken does offer a 15% kama'aina discount, which was much appreciated and played a big factor in my decision to eat there. They also offer lunch specials, highlighting four of their ramens: shoyu ramen, miso ramen, shio ramen, and spicy miso ramen at discounted rates. I love a deal on top of another deal, so of course I had to order one of the lunch specials with the kama'aina discount. I tried the spicy miso ramen, and boy, was I disappointed. Appearance-wise, it looked pretty good. It had chashu, fat pieces of bamboo shoots, beansprouts, green onion, half an egg, and I believe wood ear fungus on top. Unfortunately, the entire bowl tasted like I was eating shin ramyun. You know, the korean spicy noodles. I enjoy Shin-Ramyun, so nothing against that but definitely not what I was expecting. I think Shin-Ramyun has more flavor than this bowl of ramen. Highly disappointed. I'm even more disappointed that I didn't get to try them in Hokkaido, because now that I've had this, I don't think I'm going to want to, even though part of me knows it's better there. Needless to say, I ate about half my bowl (I was so hungry when I went in).. Noodles are my weakness. I usually eat more than I should, so being able to stop after half means a lot. The soup, noodles, chashu, egg...it was all pretty disappointing.

VEGAN broth available and delicious. Not only the service was efficient, the noodle was perfect texture with simple but Clean broth that compliment the experience. WITH a beautiful cherry bosom tree ambiance as the center piece around the table. Must try when in Stix looking for some traditional Japanese Noodle fix

This place is located in Stix Asia food hall with lots of Japanese places to choose from. I ordered the Shoyu Special Ramen and Gyozas. Both items were good; however there wasn't anything majorly special to them. I thought the shoyu ramen was pretty light as the soup was more on the water side but still good. Service was a bit slow but there were a lot of people and not enough staff working. Overall, decent place for ramen.

This ramen spot at the noodle street was buzzing with lot of people so wanted to swing over and try it out. I got to-go and took it to my hotel and it was nicely packed and was ready to be eaten. I was excited to eat it and let me tell you it was not good at all. The flavor of the ramen just wasn't anything special it was very bland and felt very basic, the meat was not very tender and juicy. Overall the experience of the ramen was just not that great.

Went here for lunch the other day and we ordered their shoyu ramen and shio ramen. Love how they put slice of butter in your ramen to add to the richness of the broth. Ramen was pretty yummy.

(3.5*) Located in the Stix mall, plenty of options around but it seems this place had a long line so wanted to give it a try. Waited about 40 mins at 8pm before seated and service was fairly quickly after getting our table. Got the spicy special ramen which was packing in spice. The broth was pretty flavorful to where it was actually quite salty but you could taste the richness especially since they add a knob of butter on top of the corn which probably contributed to high salt levels. They also don't skimp when it comes to chasu, tender fatty and a nice size cut as well.

Hubs wanted to give this place a try. Arrived at around 8pm and we were seated right away. Hubs went with the Spicy Waikiki and I ordered the Butter and Corn Miso and added an egg. Pros - I liked the jammy egg, the miso broth tasted creamy, and the ramen texture was good. Hubs liked the charsiu. However, the flavors, overall, were too subtle. With everything in the bowl - meat, bamboo, beansprouts, egg, . . . - I expected more flavor that, unfortunately, just wasn't there.

** 3.5 ** In the past, I'd always see long lines here. Needed to try it out. Came here for the 1st time back in September 2023. Then again last summer 2024. Again last night. One of my go to toppings is their butter & corn nex to the soft boiled egg. I tried their original miso broth and it was packed with flavor. Not your typical Japanese miso soup broth either. The noodles were nice and tender, along with the bean spots and slice of pork. They garnish with some spring onion whites and thick chunks of bamboo shoots. There was no wait when we arrived, just another party at the tree table, with a gradual flow coming in during our time there. The bowls came out fairly quick. The soup could have been a bit hotter. I always like it piping hot. Overall, a nice cool (very clean) place to grab some noodles and cool down from the humid temps in Waikiki.

Food: SPECIAL SHOYU RAMEN (topping with chasu pork sokedovernight, mixed w/ soy sauce and their original 'double soup' to deepen the flavor) - way too salty but at the same time tasty. The chasu is so flavorful and soft in every bite. Noodle is cooked just right. Broth has a rich flavor yet too salty for my palate. ZANGI - basically it's like karaage. It was so good. Fried to perfection, nice crunch from the outside but juicy from the inside. GYOZA (beef & vegetable dumplings pan seared with sesame oil) - was cooked perfectly and the fillings are seasoned well, savory tasty. But again, they charged us kitchen service for 4%. And yet here we are again, still tip them. Double kill for my pocket. Like, bruuuh, I think the owner should be the one paying for their kitchen cook right? Tsssk... Overall t'was good. Ramen is cheaper compared to next door and the ambiance is pretty comfy. It was clean and the staffs are nice. Abby, our server was so kind and friendly and making sure that we are taken care off. Love her work ethics. Mahalo for reading and happy juandering fellow Yeeps.

avoid, just not good. it's the most subpar meal we have ever had in hawaii. wouldn't recommend. our entire group thought it was bad.

This place was hidden amongst all the others. it's definitely a beautiful place with a nice ambiance. i got the butter corn miso with the spicy chicken. the spicy chicken was definitely spicy, i enjoyed it over the ramen. the ramen broth was good on itself, maybe a little heavy but it all came together. i didn't really like the noodles in full honesty. they were soggy and clumped together. it just tasted like starch. i asked for extra scallions, was charged for it and didnt get it which wasn't a whole big deal but still disappointing. it was quite expensive which is given being that it's in waikīkī.

You can also order your food through a QR code and pay online when you're done. There are also restrooms onsite. Parking is still small and can fill up when it's busy (you also aren't allowed to park in the Church parking lot) If you haven't eaten here before, I would suggest looking on their website at the waitlist to see how many people are on there prior to going there as they can get really busy. You can also put your name on the waitlist online so you don't have to do it on site. They have a really good text messaging system letting you know when your table is almost ready.

Overall, the ramen was very good, but I want to share an important tip about their waiting system so others don't get caught off guard. When your name gets close to the top of the list, do NOT wander away. They will call your name three times, and if you're not standing there, they'll cross your name off immediately. What surprised me was that they start calling names before the current customers have even finished eating or paid their bill. I had made eye contact with the host, pointed to my name and party size, and he acknowledged me. There were still people sitting at the counter eating, and it looked like it would be another 10-15 minutes before seats opened up. I stepped away briefly and came back, only to find my name had already been crossed off the list. The party that was supposedly leaving hadn't even paid yet and was still sitting in their seats. When I explained the situation, the host simply said, "Sorry, your time passed already. I called your name three times." Their sign says they will wait 3 minutes, but in our case it felt more like they called the name three times in quick succession and then removed it. Thankfully, after some discussion, he agreed to seat us anyway. So my advice: once your name is within a couple spots of being called, stay close and pay attention. As for the food, we ordered the Oxtail Ramen (spicy) and the Cashew Pork Ramen. The ramen itself was excellent. The oxtail was tender, although it didn't have a lot of flavor on its own in the soup. They provide a separate bowl with ginger and what appeared to be a ponzu-based sauce, and the intended way to eat it is to remove the oxtail from the soup and dip it into the sauce. That definitely enhanced the flavor. The restaurant is set up with bar-style seating in a half-oval arrangement. Your party will be seated shoulder-to-shoulder, and guests will be sitting directly across from you on the other side of the counter. I'd estimate there are about 25 seats total. Service is efficient, food comes out quickly, and most customers finish and leave fairly fast. For reference, we arrived at 8:38 PM on a Tuesday with 17 people ahead of us. We were seated around 9:15 PM, our food arrived by about 9:30 PM, and we left around 10:00 PM. Overall, this would have been a 5-star experience if not for the confusion with the waiting list. The ramen is absolutely worth trying, but understanding how their queue system works will save you from a potentially frustrating experience.

There was a couple in front of us who said they come here every time they visit Hawaiʻi and that it's a must-do stop on every trip. When you walk in, it's a small place. With this much food, your entire party could share a full meal and still be satisfied with the diverse menu options that are offered. Located on the second floor of the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center, along the busy corridor of Kalakaua Avenue, this is the second stateside location of TsuruTonTan Udon Noodle Brasserie after successfully opening in the heart of New York City. Originally founded in Osaka, Japan, TsuruTonTan specializes in authentic handmade udon, where the noodles themselves take center stage. Their goal is to have each bowl thoughtfully crafted and topped with a wide variety of ingredients, from aromatic bonito flakes and savory kombu kelp to locally sourced vegetables and meats, all carefully selected to complement the restaurant's high-quality noodles. The name TsuruTonTan draws inspiration from the sounds associated with the art of udon making. In Japanese, "Tsuru" represents the sound of slurping noodles, "Ton" evokes the kneading and shaping of the dough, and "Tan" signifies the cutting of the noodles. Together, these three sounds embody the spirit of TsuruTonTan and its dedication to the craft of handmade udon. What drew me into this location, with plenty of options surrounding them was TsuruTonTan's Special Dinner Set, which for a reasonable $38 diners would received no fewer than six menu items starting with their house salad which was fresh arugula lettuce, cherry tomatoes, and a vinaigrette and a small sampling of their Edamame. You also get a choice of Appetizer between chicken, tofu and shrimp tempura, of which I selected their Chicken Karaage. Then for your entrée, diners have the choice between six udons to select from, from your traditional soup based udons to one that particularly stood out to me, their Truffle Cream Udon, so I knew that I was going to order this menu item. As if that wasn't enough food, diners get to order one sushi roll that they handcraft here at TsuruTonTan and I selected their Sunfire Roll, which had a shrimp tempura mixed with cucumber, avocado and topped with spicy tuna. And then, for your final course, diners get to enjoy a scoop of ice cream, of which on this day our only option was rainbow sherbet. The first four courses to be presented to my table were the salad, edamame, Chicken Karaage, and my four slices of the Sunfire Roll. These four entrées probably would have been enough food and I would have been satisfied with my meal overall. The Chicken Karaage were five deep-fried nugget pieces served with lemon and piping hot upon served and the Sunfire Roll was a nice combination of sushi roll flavors. Then came my Truffle Cream Udon, which was topped with balls of crab meat, sliced truffle mushrooms, and shaved parmesan cheese. Creamy and cheesy goodness, this entrée was a hearty and heavy dish that combined the flavors of both Japan and Italy thanks to the heartiness of the udon noodles. The ice cream scoop was a nice touch to end what was already a filling meal. I really enjoyed my meal at TsuruTonTan Udon Noodle Brasserie with so many menu items to choose from it seems overwhelming. Thankfully they have a number of popular and recommended menu items that any visitor looking for a good meal can choose from. The $38 dinner set created specifically for Hawaii diners, which includes a spicy udon soup and a garlic shrimp rice dish, has already piqued my interest and given me a reason to return. And return I will, as long as the service, prices, and food remain as consistently strong as they are at TsuruTonTan Udon Noodle Brasserie. Offering elevated comfort food that seamlessly bridges cultures and culinary traditions, it stands out as a unique dining destination well worth revisiting.
