I didn't pay for a burrito full of vegetables -- I ordered carne asada and expected to get exactly that. Mistakes happen, but this one should have been obvious before handing out the order. I can't believe I've never been to this location before. I went around 12:30pm on a Wednesday and while it was packed, we snagged a spot on their patio. As we had to be in Laguna Hills for business purposes, Baja popped up as a nice opportunity. Place looks inviting, nice interior. Ordering was quite easy, Ensenada style tacos for my better half, blackened fish for me. $5.50 for each would have been a shocker awhile back but OK for an experience it's fine to stomach. A side of chips however is $5.00 which IS rather shocking.... but what are tacos without chips and salsa right? Two waters to complete the meal and it was good, fish prepped and seasoned nicely and the soft tacos not soggy. Earth moving, no but it does the job. Crunchy.. very disappointing. We buy our 9 employees lunch every Friday and Baja Fish Tacos has been in the rotation the last 5 years. Normally their food is great. I'm assuming they changed their meat vender or bought cheap carne asada. It was a red flag when the first bite of my burrito was crunchy. The next 5 bites were pure fat and tendons. After seeing all the good reviews, I've tried Baja Fish Tacos a few times and still can't figure out why everyone raves about it. I've ordered their charbroiled fish burrito and their charbroiled fish unwrap and the food seems kind of bland. One time, the rice and beans were left out of my burrito, which made it super small and even more bland. I haven't tried their tacos, so maybe I've just been sleeping on their best item. The staff have always been super friendly and there always seemed to be offering samples, which was nice. Maybe I will give them another chance and get the fish tacos and plenty of salsa. read more

Went here after climbing with a good friend. We definitely worked up an appetite and Baja Fish Tacos delivered! The staff were super sweet and the food came out fast, hot, and fresh. Delicious. I got the blackened fish taco and the carne asada taco and they were absolutely delicious. There's an indoor and outdoor area, both of which are quite spacious. This restaurant was super convenient for us. The parking appeared busy, but there was room. Even though it was at lunch time on a weekend, there was plenty of seating. You order at the cashier (see my pic of the cashier/ordering station), and they'll deliver your meal. The environment was a bit noisy: concrete floors and steel chairs. I did like the themed music, but if you want quiet they're a bit noisy. The staff was quick and efficient. We ordered the Charbroiled Fish Bowl and the Chicken Bowl (they do look identical - the lettuce covers all the proteins). Not pictured, is their self-serve salsa station; which was pretty good and inclusive. We always like to mix and match the salsas. As you can from my pics, the bowls were very similar: fresh lettuce, vibrant salsa (fairly mild) and a layer of beans on the bottom. Both the fish and chicken had the appropriate quantity and were mildly flavored (hence it's good to have a salsa bar to dial in the flavor to you). Both proteins were quite tender. read more

Came here for lunch today. It was a late lunch but there were still a few tables with diners in the restaurant. Got my usual, Baja bowl with chicken. Chicken was mostly burned when I got my order. I do not like burned meat because it's very unhealthy for us. Walked up to the counter to let them know. The gal went into the kitchen to let them know. I just wanted them to replace the burned meat but the kitchen ended up making another order. It was delicious though after they fixed it but I didn't see much beans in the bowl, mostly rice. Super casual Mexican food place. Order at the counter and they bring it to your table. They clean up for you. Not the friendliest encounter with any of the workers but also not anything bad. This place is a solid lunch spot. I judge a Mexican taco/burrito place by their salsa bar and tortillas. Tortillas ain't bad and I really like the salsa bar, especially the charred green salsa. They are quick, the food is good, salsa great as I mentioned... The burritos are expensive though with $17 bucks for carne asada last I checked, the $13 charbroiled chicken I think is fair for how big it is. Burritos do come standard with guac so that helps justify. Overall still recommend this lunch spot! read more

This is consistently good fast casual food. I typically have the two taco combo with the fish tacos. It comes with rice (awesome and buttery) and beans (black or pinto). This is a good portion of food. They also have a salsa bar with nice selection of heat. This place never disappoints. read more

It was such a hot day today when I found this place in Lake Forest. We were having a rough day at the DMV and were looking for an escape from the heat. Oh, yeah, we had been to a Baja Fish Tacos in Newport Beach. I ordered a shrimp taco with a side of rice, remembering that the rice was incredible in Newport. Then I started to complain. The ice tea was out. It cost $4.50 for chips and salsa. There were some kids who controlled the salsa bar. I gave the workers a hard time. I said, "Forty bucks and no free chips?" The food came and I envisioned a two star rating for this place. What a joke? It's so expensive? The food came and I went silent. The shrimps were perfectly seasoned and grilled. The slaw inside the burrito is magical, crunchy, sweet, tangy, and flavorful. I went silent. The rice was fluffy, buttery, and tastes incredible when you top it with home made pico. I had visions of laying in my hammock in San Blas watching waves peal down the coast. Thunderstorms in the jungle above the monkeys and cattle on the beach. I went silent. Absolutely the best shrimp burrito I have every had. The food here is legendary, so much better than anything around. People who live near this place are blessed.
