Have been ordering from this location over the years. The food quality is not good. Not sure what it is but their steak options are not steak. The chicken is overcooked. They frequently get orders wrong. You don't find out until you get home and when you try and call, they don't pick up or respond to messages. This is one franchise that should be shut down. There are not too many Baja Fresh locations around these days. Decided to drop by and got their $10 special they have going on now. I picked the carnitas burrito. It comes with chips salsa rice and beans plus a drink. I used their online ordering system which I thought was easy to use. I prefer ordering this way to see all the details and you don't have to wait in store. It was ready when I arrived. The burrito was good sized and hardy. I went to this store a few years ago. The prices were quite high considering the mediocre quality of food. The service was close to non-existent. Impersonal. Communication was difficult. Zero interaction. I don't expect to make new friends in these types of situations but the employees are truly not available to the customer. So I gave this place a try again yesterday. I've eaten at this location 2 or 3 times without issue, but unfortunately this last visit was a different story. I ordered the tostada with grilled chicken and ended up with a brutal case of food poisoning. After that experience, I won't be returning. If there's nothing else around and you're jonesing for some Tex Mex, then Baja Fresh might be an option. We've gotten Baja Fresh catered at work on a few occasions. The chicken tacos (grilled white meat) are dry and the steak tacos are gristly, yet also somehow dry too! The saving grace is the Baja ensalada which has fresh lettuce, pico, cojita cheese and fried tortilla strips. The white meat chicken isn't so dry when drenched with the cilantro lime dressing! I'm pleasantly surprised at how good it was. I always had the impression that Baja Fresh was garbage between what I've heard and the lack of good reviews, but the steak baja burrito was pretty good. The service is also great. The people are so nice. The guy wearing the pink hat/cloth was really cool, seems like a cool guy. He apologized for the long wait since the steak was being cooked, but I was actually expecting it to take longer than that and was in no rush. When I finally gave up and dropped by location I asked why nobody picked up phone, worker replied they are busy cooking. I asked if there is a better method to place call in order and he said "call in your order". The food was decent. I've had better and I've had worse. The interior of the restaurant and restroom shows age. It's not particularly dirty but just not as clean or bright as other locations. There were more togo orders than dine-in patrons the evening I stopped by. The service was fine...nothing spectacular but not horrible. The receipts include a $5 off $15 coupon if you take a survey. The weekly junk mail that gets shoved in your mailbox may also include the same coupon. The restaurant shares the same parking lot as Starbucks. I placed an order online. After picking it up and driving home, I discover the order is different. After repeated calls to Baja Fresh, more than 10 calls, someone finally answers. I explained to him the problem and he was completely unsympathetic. Quite the opposite, he said (and sounded like HE'S DOING ME A FAVOR) that he'll provide the correct items but I'll need to drive back. When I told him this is your mistake and I won't be driving 20 mins one way to pick up, he simply hung up. The audacity of sounding that it's my fault and then hanging up is very aggravating. No wonder he's stuck working at Baja Fresh and doesn't have much hope for a future. I understand the franchise owner is trying to keep costs down by hiring unskilled labor, but at least hire ones with some minimum level of work ethics. read more

This was our absolute favorite go-to place during the week when we didn't feel like making dinner. What happened? Got dinner through take-out there last night. The normally delicious guacamole was this loose watery mess of mostly tomatoes with a tiny amount of greed sludge running through that I guess was supposed to resemble avocado. It tasted so bad we threw it out. The salsa that we got was like they took what was left over from the day before and watered it down by half. Loose and absolutely no flavor. Our entrée items tasted so off we threw them out as well. The cheese in my quesadilla had a weird funk to it. Since both of those locations closed, I started coming here again and I've been pleasantly surprised. The food quality has significantly improved and the salsas are much better now. Haven't been to Baja Fresh in years now I remember why LOL. Its a fast food place with high prices. A notch above Taco Bell in terms of quality but much higher prices. My $10.00 burrito was so small cant recall ever having a burrito that small except for frozen store bought ones you microwave. However the flavor was pretty good. Salsa bar was decent too but they forgot to give us any chips! Kids beef tacos $4.00 each! had nothing on it but overcooked steak, I mean nothing else no cheese, no lettuce or sour cream etc, NADA. The dining area is kept clean, the salsa was packed with flavor, and customer service exceeded my expectations. Here, the food is brought to you where as the other locations I've been to provide you a pager to inform when to pick up your order. The other cool thing was that chips were delivered to my table while I was waiting for my order. The overall quality of my order was great. I ordered fish tacos and a tostada salad. The chef here knows how to season the food properly without overkilling the flavors of the dish. My dining experience didn't feel like fast food. It was as if I was at a tip service restaurant. I'm a frequent flier at Baja Fresh down South, but this was my first visit to a Baja Fresh in the Bay Area and I noticed some significant differences. You begin by ordering at the counter, but you are given a number on a stand instead of having to refer to a number on your receipt, then find your own seats. In Southern California they call the numbers out loud and you have to pay attention and listen for your number which is a real obstacle to holding a conversation. Here, you place the number and its stand on the table and someone brings the food right to your table! We were thrilled! We ordered chips and guacamole along with our meal, and the girl made a separate trip to bring them to us before our entrees were served. Big bonus points! The dining area shaped like a crescent with the kitchen in middle; definitely a unique set up, but it actually afforded people more privacy. There was also a patio area outside with tables and chairs shaded by umbrellas that had a view of the road. The salsa bar has six different kinds of salsa, fresh lime wedges, jalapeños, cilantro, and little round yellow peppers. Everything looked pretty good! Mom and I both ordered soft tacos, with mom getting chicken and I got steak. Mom said she liked hers and I definitely enjoyed mine. She ordered hers a la carte and I ordered mine as a platter with black beans and rice. The rice was average, but the black beans were fabulous - full of flavor as well as aesthetically pleasing with little crumbles of white queso atop the black beans. Yummy! Stopped in here for a quick lunch. It smelled great so we ordered fish tacos. Biting into one, I thought I got a mouthful of bones. Spitting it out, it was a thick crust of dried up fish jerky. Prices are below average for this, the Blackhawk area, but still two burritos came to $17. One reason: everything is ala carte, for example, if you want guacamole on your burrito that's an extra $.75. They give you an option to include black beans in your burritos, which we decided to try. Healthier I'm sure, but taste-wise I'm not a fan. You can get glasses for free water with your meal, but for the life of us, we couldn't find a water dispenser anywhere. Overall, barely okay. Salsa bar had about 6 choices of salsa including a mango salsa (pretty yummy). Again, their salsa isn't amazing, but they are decent. They also give you free chips. We left satisfied.
