My cousin and her husband were celebrating their birthdays and wanted to plan a family getaway…read more They picked this place and essentially booked the entire property, except for one room. However, no one else booked the last room for our dates, so we ended up with the entire place to ourselves. This place is a winery and an Airbnb. It's not too far, I would say about an hour and a half drive from the border. It's located near other wineries. You drive through a small town and then down a long dirt road to reach the property. I would recommend having something larger than a coupe to drive on that road.
Once you arrive, you can see where they grow the grapes. None had bloomed when we were there. You're greeted by the caretaker of the place. His name escapes me, but he was a cool guy. He's also the cook, and you can let him know what you'd like, then give him money to go out and buy the ingredients. He'll come back and cook for you. We didn't opt for him to cook for us as we had everything planned out already for our overnight stay. However, he did ask if we wanted pastries in the morning with our coffee. We said yes, paid him for what he bought in the morning, and gave him a tip.
The property itself is wonderful. It sits next to some mountains, and the views are amazing. The architecture of the place we stayed in was beautiful, and I loved it all. The master bedroom we had was huge, with a big bathroom, a king bed, and a queen bed on the other side of the room. We also had two smaller bedrooms across the courtyard, one with a king bed and a bathroom, and one with two queens and a bathroom. There are also outdoor restrooms for everyone to use, which we all used while hanging out in the common areas.
There's a fire pit with seating around it, a lounge area (which is closed after 4 pm), and a grilling area behind the lounge with an amazing view of the mountains. All areas were clean.
Wine tasting is available throughout the day, from 11 am to 5 pm. It's located down some steps from the fire pit area. No one else was there, so we went down and tried the wines they make there. I'm not a big wine person, but I tried all the wines they make, and boy, were they good. So good that I bought six bottles of their "Casa Luna Rosado"--some for me and my wife, and some for gifting to friends. You also get a 15% discount for staying there if you purchase wine.
You're allowed to roam freely around the property, walk through the vineyard where the grapes are grown, and hike the mountains. I'd recommend bringing coolers and plenty of ice if you plan to bring drinks and food, as there are no fridges in the rooms.
The only issue we had was getting into the master bedroom when we arrived, as the battery on the digital lock was dead. But we worked around it for the stay. Even with that small issue, I give this place a 5-star rating. My family and I have talked and plan to head there again at some point.
