My younger brother lived in Merion Village for a couple of years. I always passed this place and wanted to visit this location and on Sunday I finally did. I went with a friend after having lunch and I ended up having the Oatmeal Creme Cloud and he had the Moon Pie and the Brown Butter Rice Krispie Treat and let's just say it was the BOMB. The Oatmeal Creme Cloud reminds you of an oatmeal cream pie by Little Debbie, but it tastes nothing like it and that is a GOOD THING. I don't know how to explain, but it was just delish and wasn't overly sweet. Usually, I will say a place is ok for being gluten-free or vegan, but this place is overall an EXCELLENT choice for great baked goods. With this being said, I will definitely be a repeat customer. Was so happy to visit the expanded bakery & coffee shop this past weekend. It's a very cozy space for hanging out and the coffee is excellent. Definitely try a pop tart if they're available when you go! I got there too late for the new savory breakfast items, but hope to try them soon. For me, the new space makes Bake Me Happy.... Happy!!! What a 100% upgrade. Gone is the pastel colors; bold brights covering the walls. Lots of inviting seating, tables if you want to take a squat and do some work. The open coffee bar is a huge plus, as I think customers should always be able to see you make their drink (a hujazz personal pet peeve!). This place now has the feel of a Seattle coffee shop. Got here in the late afternoon, so not much left of the baked goods/sweets, but, to me, that shows they're doing an awesome business, as items are being snatched up before they lose their desired taste. The new cafe is ADORABLE, inviting, and, like a friend said, exactly what Columbus needs right now to counter the stark atmosphere of many of our newer coffee shops. The coffee is FAB. I always get iced coffee these days so I can't give you an idea of their range of beverages, but the iced coffee is expertly made. That translates to a good knowledge of how to handle coffee overall. (I was a barista for years, iced coffee is easy to screw up if you don't know how to handle coffee.) The cafe space is great. It's modern but not cold. I was a tiny bit confused going in as to where I needed to get in line to order, but otherwise, I loved every inch of the new space. I can't wait to visit again and I wish I lived closer so I could go all the time. Also, the treats? You guys, the treats? I do not need to eat gluten free treats, these are just legitimately some of the best pastries I've ever eaten. First: red velvet spongies. These are one of my favorite things forever. It's like a Twinkie but red velvet and also better than a Twinkie. I kind of want to cry a little every time I eat one. Second: They had a peach pie this summer that also made me want to cry a little. It's the best pie I've had in Columbus. It's one of the best pies I've ever had, period. The crust was amazing. The peaches, from The Peach Truck, were perfect--still tart, juicy, plump, fab. Third: I am a sucker for oatmeal creme pies and their version is great. Fourth: The red velvet cake is the best in Columbus. It's the best I've ever had. When you're having a birthday or special occasion, get that. After all these years, I finally stopped in. I'm not a gluten-free person, but a friend who is asked me to meet her there. First, I have to say that every time I've had gluten-free food, I found it an underwhelming attempt at the "regular" version. Not the case here: I had several things, and everything was delicious. I also ordered a mocha latte that was one of the best I've had in Columbus. Second, there was a mistake with my order, and the staff not only addressed it & fixed it, but they went above & beyond. Bake Me Happy is a hidden gem in German Village. Their Doughnut Muffin and Ohio-shaped sugar cookie are delicious. Soft cookies are my favorite and most gluten-free cookies just don't live up the the expectation of a classic frosted, sugar cookie cut-out like the ones at Bake Me Happy. The one downside is the hours. They are not open on Monday or Tuesday and their inventory seems low Wednesday-Friday. Depending on what time you go on the weekend, they may also already be sold out. If you know that you want something specific, definitely call first (especially if you are driving to the south side just for a cookie.) read more

I stopped by today just to try a sampling of their baked goods. I got the oatmeal cream cloud, a zebra cake, a king don, and a brownie. I'm not gluten intolerant but I wanted to see how these desserts tasted. The king don by far was my favorite. It tasted richly chocolate. I'd say it needed a little more cream filling. It's delicious though. The next would be the oatmeal cream pie. I wish the oatmeal cookies were a little softer though. The other two were just okay but I wouldn't get again. Really enjoying this bakery! Lots to recommend including the blondies and the spicy peanut butter cookie (it has a kick!). If you're a rice krispies treat fan, their version with brown butter and real vanilla bean is great. It's also nice and big - no tiny servings here. Also nostalgia runs strong with their version of classics like oatmeal cream pies (which are pretty big !) and zebra cakes. It's also really easy to place an order online and pick up. Just a heads up if you're looking to order a cake or cupcakes, book as far in advance as you can - I tried 3 days ahead but they were already booked. They make extra cakes and cupcakes from these orders though that head to the freezer, so the grab and go selection varies. And lastly they have a nice selection of other gluten free pantry items. The staff are super friendly, coffee is good (really enjoyed my iced coconut latte), and masks are required - which I appreciate during this crazy time. read more

This bakery is one of the best I've ever had! For someone who grew up eating Debbie cakes/hostess products, the zebra cake and king dong are 1000x better than the boxed kind. The fact that they use brown butter for the Rice Krispie treat adds an elevation to the flavor and it melts in your mouth. The donut muffin is one of the best fusians there ever was. I don't have a gluten allergy. I don't have a gluten sensitivity. I actually welcome the gluten. Celiacs, give me your gluten. Despite this, I found Bake Me Happy's cookie absolutely marvelous. The sweet treat and sweet service were a lovely start to my day. I was *supposed* to save the cookie for my daughter. But I had a handful of treats to bring home so I chose to eat her shamrock shaped, cream cheese frosted sugar cookie. She'll never know, so don't tell her. The cookie was an excellent combination of sweet and chewy and the light layer of cream cheese frosting was pure perfection. I really did savor every single bite. I have a few other Bake Me Happy treats I'll surely barrel through, and probably share some with the little one. I'm a nice mom but let's be real, the first rule of eating your kids' treats is that we don't talk about them. There was no shamrock cookie. I dare you to find evidence. read more

This review has been a long time coming. Ever since Bryant's great Yelp event here, we have been meaning to come back but hadn't gotten here. Then we realized that you could order BMH treats online and we thought "Bingo!" We were in the middle of wedding planning and needed to pick up some gluten-free treats for one of our guests. Then we thought "Why just for one person, everyone needs to try these awesome things!" and we started ordering all the things. We ended up ordering 24 king dongs, 24 spongies and (initially) 24 oatmeal cream clouds. Wendy suggested we consider swapping the oatmeal cream clouds for the miniature version because the normal ones are huge. Well, the "mini" ones are pretty big (think average cookie size). Long story short: We came home with 8 oatmeal cream clouds... everything else was devoured and thoroughly enjoyed. It was fabulous to be able to serve local, fresh, tasty desserts at our wedding and for all of our guests to be able to enjoy them whether they have a gluten issue or not. We will absolutely order more stuff from them... we just might not share next time. read more

Delightful and delicious! I have no need to eat gluten free, but at Bake Me Happy it's just an added perk for those who do require the absence of gluten in their baked goods. I went on a Saturday morning with Bryant M. Look for their great branding and bright colors as you drive by, you can't miss it. We each got a scone and coffee to enjoy in the unheated "lobby" of the charming building in Merion Village. I had the blueberry, goat cheese, basil scone. B had the ham and cheese. Let me tell you, they are REALLY good scones. You're definitely not sacrificing anything to be gluten free at Bake Me Happy. The Spongies are also amazing. Denser than a twinkie but a million times better in every way possible. These were a win with my whole house. The quinoa monster cookie rocked and the oatmeal cream clouds were just a hair too sweet for me, but it did stop me from eating every crumb. Letha, one of the owners, was a real delight to talk to. She's really passionate about baking and really passionate about treating her customers really well. I filled a box of goodies up for $20 and it was a good haul. I assume this place is back open now after taking a hiatus, and I must have forgotten about writing a review. Everything here is gluten-free, but that's not why I was here. I actually happened to be in the area anyway, so I had to give it a shot. Now, I'm reviewing this bakery on how good it is as a bakery and not how good of a gluten-free bakery it is, and the verdict is I really liked most of what I had here. I don't have Celiac's, and I'm not on a GF diet, so I just wanted to see how good the product tasted. The red velvet spongie and zebra cake I had here were okay, not my favorite. I could go on without having those. The spongie was a bit dry for me, and I wasn't a huge fan of the filling. The zebra cake was just mediocre. However, the oatmeal creme cloud and chocolate hand pie were absolutely delicious. I'd have those again in a heartbeat! I could probably just eat several of the creme clouds until I got sick, they were that good. The marshmallow creme filling was delicious, better than any name brand oatmeal creme pie you'd get in the grocery store. Everyone here is very friendly, and they'll answer any questions you might have. This spot is pretty far away from me, so I don't think I'd necessarily drive out of my way to get here, since I'm surrounded by bakeries near the Short North. BUT, if you are near the South side of the city (basically if you're South of I-70) and looking for a great bakery, or if you have a gluten allergy or are trying to be gluten-free, then this is a must stop for you. read more

I watch a lot of baking shows, and I'm always amused at how flummoxed most bakers are when they're asked to bake without gluten. All of them should visit Bake Me Happy. I live with my girlfriend a couple of blocks away, and when she first introduced me to Bake Me Happy, I had no clue it was a gluten-free establishment. All of the baked goods I have tried on my half-dozen (or so) visits over the past year have been absolutely delicious, with none of the texture or flavor issues you might expect from non-gluten products. Many reviews say the same thing, but I think it's important to add my voice to the chorus, simply because Bake Me Happy proves that exceptional baked goods are possible without the typical ingredients. It's an obvious go-to for anyone with gluten intolerance, but it's also a great bakery by any metric. I bought a (gluten-loving) Southern friend of mine a moon pie the other day, and she was impressed at how much it tasted like the familiar treat from her youth. Likewise, I brought donuts for my OSU students and made a special stop here for one I know is gluten-free, and didn't have to worry that it would be a poor substitute. In all honesty, she probably got the better end of the deal... All in all, if you're not a gluten-free person, it's easy to have major reservations about the relative quality of the baked goods at a gluten-free establishment...but as a lifelong gluten-lover, and general fan of baked treats, Bake Me Happy is nonetheless one of my favorite bakeries in town, bar none. read more

Didnt know if was a gluten free going in and still wouldn't have suspected it without doing some later research. Um, what? I haven't reviewed BMH? I'm not sure how this happened. This bakery is entirely gluten free, but it isn't just good for gluten free... it is an amazing bakery period. The only thing not to like about this place is it is very bad for your diet. I mean, you can't go in and buy one item. That's a waste of a trip. No, you really have to get a box full of goodies, pretend that you are bringing it to friends and not going to eat it all yourself. Been going there since it open. Can't believe I didn't write a review yet. We try to go once a week its just that good. The shop: is open, airy, and fun. The staff: TOP NOTCH, wonderful, friendly, always smiling. The food: AWESOME. All of the pastries are great. They aren't dry and don't crumble the way many gluten free items do. I picked up some items this morning for an office birthday party for a co-worker that is gluten intolerant. I only got items from this bakery and thought if everyone didn't like them they would just have to be on their own. I can't express how much I genuinely love this bakery. From the food to the staff everything is excellent. My husband has celiacs and it's SO NICE to be able to walk into an eatery and order anything off the menu with no fear of him getting sick.
