Just walked in to pick up an order and kindly was greeted at the counter by a young gentleman. He left to pick up my order and the instructor for the class interupted her session to stop, find this gentleman and track down the order for him (mind you he was gone less than 15 seconds). After returning to her class, she announced to all students that she had to step away because he was doing something wrong. It felt very demeaning to this gentleman and off putting. We had walked past this establishment a few times during our visit to Columbus, both before and after operating hours, but this time it was open and we made an impromptu stop. Fresh, hand-crafted macarons?! Uh, yes please. While I'm happy that Macaron Bar exists for a tasty treat to go, I would have loved to have a full, dessert-focused experience inside the store as well. It just feels more like a grab-and-go place to eat your cookies later. THINGS TO KNOW: -As of May 2022, one macaron is $2.75, six are $15, and twelve are $27. Obviously, it's cheapest to get a full set of twelve. When I came, there were 13 different flavors to choose from, so you would have gotten a nearly-full spread if you want to go that way. -This location is in the Short North, so parking is at a premium. They will validate your parking at multiple nearby garages for an hour. -They also offer classes if you want to learn to make macarons. I haven't taken one (at over $100 a pop), but they're there! PROS: -Really delicious macarons. I mean, really, isn't that why you're coming here? Soft, very fresh, and very tasty. -Packaging is beautiful for larger orders of macarons. If you order in sets of 6, your macaron comes in a really cute, protective box that's the perfect size for six (or 12) macarons. -Prices are exactly the same online if you want to pre-order your macarons for easy pick-up instore. This way you don't have to wait in line or deal with other people in line who can't decide which macarons they want. CONS: -Packaging is less-beautiful if you buy under-six macarons. Your macaron will be packed in a little plastic baggie that will not protect the cookie if it's squeezed or squished. By the time I walked back to my car, the baggie was covered in chocolate from the chocolate drizzle melting in the heat. -It's definitely a grab-and-go place. Seating is very, very minimal, and the point-of-sale area is just feet from the doorway. It's weird, though, because parking in the Short North isn't exactly a fast affair. It definitely feels like a place you're supposed to dip in and grab some macarons to go after having dinner at a restaurant somewhere in the Short North. (As a note, they will validate the first hour of parking for you at multiple garages.) -On a Saturday, there was a line, and there isn't much space for a "line" to exist considering the front door is just feet from the countertop. read more

We walked past this cute macaron bar, and I had to stop to taste a few flavors. The red velvet and birthday cake were recommended, and then I decided on snickerdoodle as well. I always love seeing new businesses pop up in the Short North and the Macaron bar was no exception. I know they have a handful of locations across the midwest and it was about darn time they showed up in Columbus, we're lucky to have them. At the moment their space is a pop-up, but word on the street is they are currently building out the full location and they will be here to stay. Fingers crossed! I've been in twice since they graced us with their presence and both times and I was impressed with their mini sweet treats. My absolute favorite was their lemon lavender macaron. I'm a sucker for anything lavender and the flavor was spot on. I've had my eye on their rose macaron and it'll definitely be the next one I try. I've had one at a cute bakery in Chicago, but it's been years. The space at the moment is small but don't let that fool you. It's super cute! Heard about this, and knowing how much my mom loves macarons, we came as soon as we could. It's a pop-up in a sense, but only till they get things going full steam. The full kitchen should be operating in January 2020; till then, they have a limited menu of mainly holiday-flavor macarons (and some meringues.) They will have cooking classes, and many more flavors, as the new year gets going. We got, well, one of everything. They sell macarons in two-packs, and I think 6- and 12-cookie boxes. We got one of each two-pack, with flavors like eggnog, hazelnut, peppermint, birthday cake, red velvet cake, etc. I have tried the eggnog and hazelnut so far, and they were excellent. Macarons are a bit hard to make, and make right, and these were great. Both the cookies and filling were delicate in flavor and texture. I've had macarons in Paris, and these were the closest I've had to those. Other places in town make them, but they are either too "heavy" or have odd frosting-like fillings. They ain't cheap, anywhere. Here, we got a dozen or so macarons plus 8-10 meringues for about $30. Buy in the boxes for a better deal. Service was good, and they explained how they make things, and talked about their other locations (Cinci and Pitt.) And please- say macaron, not macaroon. So we decided to get out of the house for a bit to stretch and pick up something to eat. After having dinner, we decided we were going to get a sweet treat. At first, we were going to get cookies, but then my wife reminded me that we were planning to check the Macaron Bar out, and I'm glad that she did. When we arrived here, the place was mostly empty. The only other person around was the staff person that was there to attend to the customers. She came up to us to take our order. The selection here is certainly not modest, but after a few minutes, we knew what we were going to purchase. We got the red velvet, salted caramel, toasted coconut, chocolate strawberry, snickerdoodle, lemon lavender, Madagascar vanilla, and the cheesecake macarons. They were all made fresh, and you could taste it. The slightly crispy outer shell, chewy innards, that is, until you get to that creamy inner core goodness. These things were nothing short of divine. We loved all the flavors, although the lemon lavender might be an acquired taste for some. read more

Originally I was just going to purchase a few, but they are so reasonably priced that I opted for a box of 6 for just $14. The box is so cute and even comes with a flavor chart inside. This would make such a nice gift! Perfect for a birthday, baby shower, or housewarming. The macarons are beautiful and they taste as good as they look. The birthday cake one is so cute with little sprinkles, and I also particularly enjoyed the amaretto cheesecake and the strawberry lemonade. Now, I love me a good macaron! The light crisp and airy texture paired with the tasty buttercream filling is complete joy! I had high hopes for this place and was so disappointed with my new favorite guilty pleasure. The presentation is nice, but the cookies, I know, how dare I classify these small wonders as generic cookies.... Anyway, they tasted more like factory made rather than homemade. Far too much dye in the filling and the texture was off just a bit. Honestly, Costco is actually better and those are Factory made! I tried the lavender, vanilla, and mint julep, but I bought several. I couldn't finish the ones I tried so I tossed the others. It was like talking a bite out of the chocolates in a Valentine's Day box trying to find the caramel ones. Oh the agony to see not only my little delights, but also my money literally go in the trash.
