It looks so charming, but the products are old, stale, refrigerator flavored. So disappointing. We bought an olive focaccia. Should have know it was a bad choice since it was in plastic wrap. Inedible: the corners and sides of the bread were rock hard. Pitched it. We also bought a beautiful layered pastry. Another no. It had been in the display case for so long that it tasted primarily of old refrigerator. Old baked goods need to be removed. Clerk: teenage boy who was far from friendly. We came in with the whole pack. That meant 2 adults 4 school age and one toddler, you can imagine its craziness. The lady helping us was absolutely wonderful. She was super pleasant, helpful and patient as my children tried to decide what delicious goods they wanted. My toddler devoured the croissant before i made it back to the car with my breakfast sandwich they made fresh to order. Their breakfast club sandwich is so good! It was a bit small for the price but it is a perfectly constructed sandwich. They had a sit in dining area where you can enjoy lunch and breakfast in one half of the storeas well. Tried BB&C during the annual Strawberry Festival. It was crowded, so I didn't get to take in much atmosphere. But I took that as a good sign, especially since the festival brings visitors and revenue. I tried a strawberry shortcake parfait, and it was a perfect morning treat. I received my order fairly quickly, even with festival crowds. The cake was light and fluffy, there was just enough cream frosting, and the strawberries were juicy and delicious. I liked the container as well - nice portability to walk and nibble while exploring elsewhere downtown and the festival. I'll definitely be back to try more treats when it's a normal day. read more

Came here on a Wednesday at lunch time. Their online ordering system was down so I had to call in my order. I got a grilled cheese for ~$10. It was a little pricey for the size. The size was a little small and I was still hungry afterwards. But the grilled cheese was warm and crispy and cheesy which was really good. The sandwich also came with a side of chips. This is a fixture of the community. They also make really good bread. It's an excellent breakfast or brunch spot. It's right there on the Square. They have friendly and engaged staff. They have some local and innovative jellies and jams, a couple of very nice desserts, and good bread. They also have a pretty good menu. I ventured further north today and met up with some friends at Bakehouse Bread Company. Super adorable bakery. They had fresh breads on display which looked amazing. The breakfast menu was sub par based on the fact that they had only 6 options. Of the 6 options their Egg soufflé was not available. If you have only 6 breakfast entrees as a core item listed than how can one item not be available. How disappointing. Then when I inquired about a custom sandwich the associate looked at me in a baffled manner as if they could not customize an egg sandwich with ham. How hard is it to add ham to an egg sandwich. Finally I was graciously helped by another associate who was able to customize my egg sandwich with ham. The sandwich was grilled and came out with a side of not so fresh fruits. The strawberries were severely wilted and looked several days old. If serving breakfast my expectations is fresh fruits not several day old strawberries. The egg sandwich was ok not great. My eggs were cooked on the outside but not on inside and was running. Perhaps I should have requested fried but assumed egg sandwich was going to be cooked well for atypical egg sandwich. We also ordered the cinnamon roll with maple icing which was amazing. The service was good as the sandwich and cinnamon roll came out in about 10 minutes from the initial order. Overall it was just ok for a breakfast morning location of Egg Sandwich and a Cinnamon roll with maple icing. The atmosphere was good for large groups and family morning gathering. Their selection of foods seemed to be catered to the lunch crowd. Per my observations the service could have been better with more knowledgeable associates. The food was ok but not great. For the value of the food it was just ok as I would have preferred alternative breakfast locations based on menu selections. This could be a great place for lunch but not so much brunch. read more

I've tried several of their sweet bakery items like cookies, lemon pound cake, brownies, and Whoopie pies to name a few but I always am disappointed especially with the cost of their baked goods (one slice of pound cake is $4.50). For the price, I was hoping for exceptional but I can't eat more than a few bites before discarding. My daughter has had the same experience but she does say the breads are excellent. Probably the best lunch spot in Troy, and very good baked goods. This is a nice, sunny spot to enjoy breakfast or lunch. They close the kitchen at 3, and the store itself closes a couple of hours later, but you can get pre-made sandwiches such as chicken salad, or wraps, after the kitchen is closed. We've had several good paninis, my daughter enjoys the Ruben the most, but my favorite is the veggie panini, which has melted fontina cheese with a wonderful blend of veggies - usually including roasted brussels sprouts. I crave these, and since discovering them make a point to get them as often as I can. I appreciate that they have fresh fruit available if you prefer it instead of chips, and they have several healthy sandwich options. The house made challah bread is good, as is the walnut-raisin. My favorite baked good, however, is the ginger-molasses cookie. Never having been there he asks for a donut. The employee replied, "We don't have donuts. We have pastries." This was not an attempt at humor according to my husband, but delivered in an arrogant manner without a smile. He pointed. This is a delightful place for various food options and tasty sweet treat selections! Holly is a super baker extraordinaire and it reflects in her scrumptious selections! She enjoys her work. She is mostly behind the scenes but I have had the good fortune to meet her when I have done some special ordering or when she brings her creative sweet pastries or pies to the display area. Margaret Begg is the pleasant owner of this business and is always cordial to those that have the privilege to interact with her. Likewise her son Brian is very warm and cheerful as well.
