I've been coming here for years, and I don't think I'll ever return after tonight. I've met the owner, and he's always been friendly, but the two old women who work there are really nasty and rude every time I come inside. The two grannies always rush you for no apparent reason, and if you ask for anything else, they get annoyed. I believe one of the ladies was Hispanic, so she didn't speak English, which is fine, but she kept putting the wrong donut in my order, even after I showed her what I wanted. This unassuming donut shop in not the best strip mall has really good donuts. I had the best old fashioned I've ever eaten there, the outside pleasantly crispy and the inside light and fluffy and the flavor was perfect. I like this place. Looks like they don't have a lot of fans....but I dig the donuts here. Look I don't come here for the ambiance, or to chit-chat it up with the people working here. This place is a joke for so many reasons. Tried them twice since I don't like to judge a business after the first visit and both times it was horrible. Both times I came in and asked for a dozen mixed. Only specific thing I wanted was HALF(6) TO BE CHOCOLATE MIXED. no repeating chocolate for at least 6. She begins to get it ready and I don't pay attention she is not that hard to do. She tapes the box up and I pay. When I get home I open the box and see 6 of the same donut. Everting else is doubled. We used to pile in the back of my truck in the wee ours of the morning, jammies, sleeping bags and all (ok sure this was after a bit of underage drinking).....but thank God Baker Ben's is open 24 hours! So basically I have been coming here for 20 years. YIKES. Now THAT'S loyalty! I came here around 9 am on a Friday (National Donut Day even!), and there was a LINE! This is hands down, the best place to get a donut in Roseville. As a girl who shamelessly hunts down donuts in Portland, Seattle, Chicago, Bakersfield, and Houston, I can attest to having my share of delectable goodies. I have a serious sweet tooth that probably will one day lead to Type II diabetes. I drove by this place many times without giving it a second thought until I started bringing donuts into work. I try to keep it local but the local donut places were sort of subpar and their cakes were way too dry. Thus I expanded my search for a good maple log and sprinkled cake. This little shop hits the spot and lures even the most vigilant of naysayers at my work. The cakes were fluffy, sweet, and aromatic even. I helped myself to a pink cruller that had just the right amount of icing and didn't have the sickening wet center that a lot of crullers have. Next came the apple fritter which proved to be the best fritter I've had in months! The chunks of apple were front and center in every bite and man was it tender! Baker Ben's is mostly awesome because it is a traditional donut shop open 24 hours a day always stocked with plenty o sugar-filled goodness. I have grown to appreciate this more since I moved to Walnut creek where the idea of actually having donuts in your donut shop after 11am on a Sunday is a foreign concept and 24 hour access is a pipe dream since they all close at about 5pm, not even long enough for a post-work treat. Well Happy National Donut Day! I wasn't sure what to expect since I knew everyone was getting donuts today and I wouldn't be able to till about 8pm. Well the wife and I walked in and their was probably five other people in line and they had probably half the amount of donuts left....probably even less. But since they are open 24 hours they were starting to make new ones in the back... but that doesn't help me now lol. We ordered a few different donuts to try when we got home. Unlike the other people's reviews the lady behind the counter was extremely nice, a little flustered because they were busy but no big deal. I gave her a 20 and she had to get change and was apologetic for that... I was not mad at all. She was so nice. Got home and holy cow the cake donuts were so awesome and fresh. Delicious! I was craving a donut whilst out shopping on a Sunday afternoon, around 2 o'clock. I ordered an apple-filled bearclaw and my husband had a maple old-fashioned. My husband had returned from being out of town for a few weeks, so I figured, what better way to start this cold December morning than with donuts! Little did I know that as I was choosing my half dozen donuts in my pre-coffee state , I was just moments away from THE MOST IMPORTANT PEOPLE IN THE WORLD entering the building. I understand. But it rattled me. I managed to choose 5, which is likely for the best. The "Memphis Mafia", in a round about, non direct fashion made it clear that I was blocking their expected front row seat at the glass case. I was so overwhelmed by chatter and the importance of their presence, I actually caught myself apologizing for being there at all, as I tried to hurry up and finish my order. The register sits on a narrow slice of counter next to the case. My order was being rung up on one side, the manager and what I'm assuming was the Mom of the Elvis group were chatting in a way that they had forgotten anyone else was there. As I reached for the ATM keypad which was situated directly beneath this most exclusive discussion, I was momentarily forced to hesitate as she(the manager) threw up three bags full of donuts, looked at the Elvis lady and said "THESE ARE ON THE HOUSE, BECAUSE WE LOVE YOU!!" I then managed to get the key pad to enter my pin number to pay my $6 tab. A couple sitting at a table in the dining room stood up as I was walking out and mentioned that they too would love the "special treatment", so it was nice to know it wasn't just me. I guess we were chopped liver? So far, customer service went beyond an F-. When I got home, the donuts seemed day old. I wish I had noticed how stiff and lifeless they seemed in the store, but it's hard to notice anything when "The King" walks in unannounced. Sure, the donuts did their job, but they were no ~wait for 3 hours wrapped around a New York block~ good, or anywhere near that, but they were chocolaty and alright with coffee. Side note~ When you let your favorite customers know they're your favorite customers in front of lesser ordinary customers, the lesser ordinary customers won't want to go back, unless the donuts are the best donuts on Earth. I walked in late night. Not super late but like 845 on a Sunday late. When most people are getting their clothes ready for the next day. I didn't see much of a selection, there were doughnuts the place was super quiet. The prices were $9 for a dozen and $10 for a mixed dozen. My first thought was thats a little more than Krispy Kreme. But then the worker pulled out some new freshly glazed old fashions! Those are my freaking favorites! I had to have one. .85 a doughtnut, pretty normal for a single doughnut. Once i got home broke off a little piece, it was soft and crunchy. You know the kind of crunchy you get from some good thick glaze on your old fashion. I was like what does he do dunk these things?! They're amazing! Then i thought about it, why are Krispy Kreme doughnuts not crunchy? ohhhh i know! because they drizzle the least amount of glaze on the doughnut that they possibly can, why? because it's a chain food restaurant, they only want profits. The first day I went was a couple days ago and it was pretty decent. One thing I didn't like was that you have to spend 5 dollars on your debit/credit card in order to pay with your card. So I advise to bring cash. Also it was awkwardly quiet in there, I was the only one in there but I believe there should be a little music in the background cause it felt a little sketchy to me. There were workers I believe standing on top of the building when I walked up to the store...sketchy. But other than that the asian gentleman there was friendly. It didn't feel that comfortable though because I didn't know which donut was which I had to keep asking cause there's no labels telling you what the donut was! Very annoying. I ended up choosing the raspberry filled donut, and 2 original, and a twisty kind. I have yet to try the apple fritters but I heard they are very good. The raspberry was very yummy and lived up to my krispy kreme expectations. I also got coffee and I was confused that the worker didn't get it for me, I had to pour everything myself which was hard at the moment because my hands were full. My first time there was a little bit of an inconvience but overall good. Krispy Kreme will always be my number 1 donut shop that I go to but baker bens was a cute little shop, that I enjoyed. read more

My family and I live in West Roseville but have driven to Baker Bens for years. In my fact our son is now a Sophomore in HS and I took him and a friend there once a month before school which meant getting there by 6:30am. It is something they remember to this day. My son always thought it was "our special thing" but now that he is older he tells me that it is but it is also because they are the best around! He has since tried Krispy Kreme, Dunkin Donuts and like we all agree, they are good, closer but they do not come close to Baker Bens. My all time favorite is the Blueberry Butterfly but since Bake Bens is not secret to those who live in or near Roseville, they do run out of these early. The key to finding a good place is to find one that actually "makes" the donuts there on site....such as those mentioned. Sadly a lot of donut shops buy and have delivered to sale and serve. Baker Bens is a cant miss spot for donuts, they are made that morning and are so fresh tasting. The only reason I give it 4 stars is that about 4 months ago the only employee was not inside and instead was on the curb outside smoking a blunt.
