I have seen this place have both good and bad days but today was my last visit. Very close to my house but I will drive to Raylee's from now on. The place is falling apart outside and dirty. Is there such a thing as a donut connoisseur? Well I say yes because I believe that I really am a donut connoisseur. Based on 3 visits, Baker Ben's in Roseville does not come up to par. The icing on the maple and chocolate bars is way over thinned and has very little flavor. The crullers are poorly made. On the last visit, the lady that served the 2 customers ahead of me and on me, was short and curt. I haven't eaten a donut in probably seven years. For some reason, I have been craving a donut for the last month. I have passed by this place several times after a great workout and felt that wasn't the best post workout meal. However, tonight I decided to stop on my way home from the big fight. It was just before ten and a large group was leaving the store. We waited at the counter for a few minutes while a female employee was glazing the donuts. When she noticed us, she apologized for the wait. My husband and I were in no hurry as we were checking out the large selection of donuts available. Everything looked delicious! I decided on the buttermilk bar and my husband selected the old fashioned with the chocolate glaze. After the first bite, I was in a sugar oasis. It tasted AMAZING! I have to say this is one of the best, if not best, donut I have ever had. They were wonderful, but... The building is an old Winchell's Donut Shop that barely looks different than the day Winchell's opened it. It is old, and worn, and not entirely clean. I also was a little annoyed at the inability to communicate with the counter person. Not that there are a lot of options around Roseville, at least the one(s) that they have are very good. Had a craving for a plain glazed donut and alas this was right next to the mexican place I was having lunch at. It was 2pm on a Saturday and there was hardly anything left which was mostly maple bars. What was left looked old and disorganized. I settled for a jelly donut and apple turnover that was $3.04 altogether. One guy was working and had zero customers. He was nice but less than enthused to be working there. He came out of the back with gloves on, handled my cash with them, and then went to the back without changing them and just picked up a rag to wipe off his hands. Who knows whats been on the rag. The place overall looked dingy and dirty so this did not help. To add, there was hip hop music playing in the store which completely turned me off. I get it that you personally like that "music" but mainstream people who would frequent a donut shop I am guessing would not. I could possibly get over some of that if the donut was good. It was not. I am beyond irritated! I've been to the Douglas Blvd. location many times. The donuts are good, its close to home, I'm supporting a small business. Today however, the CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS SO AWFUL, that I will NEVER return! If you want the details, read on... My son wanted to bring in donuts to school to celebrate his bday. We originally went to Krispy Kreme, well it turns out that today was the one day of the year that they sell pumpkin spice donuts and don't have the regular original glazed option. So, in an attempt to keep my 9 year old son happy, I dropped him off at school and told him I would try Baker Bens. I arrived at 8:15 realizing its a bit late to score 3 dozen donuts. I order stating, "I'll take 18 glazed and 18 chocolate IF they had them" to the friendly young gal behind the counter when I heard an older lady (who wasn't involved in our conversation) exclaim, "DID YOU CALL AND ORDER AHEAD?!!!" And again, I explained I was stopping in on a whim and if they didn't have the donuts, it was ok. So at that point, the donut counting begins. They have 18 glazed and 15 chocolate. They ask if I would take extra glazed to make up for the 3 missing chocolate donuts. I said, "that's fine". The young gal begins boxing up the donuts. The older lady proceeds to help the guy behind me. He said, if there are no more round chocolate, he'd take a chocolate bar. The older lady then grabs one of the 15 donuts (that I thought were mine) and tells the guy he can have one. The guys says, "its ok, give the lady in front of me what she ordered". The older lady checks him out and then tells me there are only 14 chocolate donuts. Well, what happened to the 15th donut? The guy didn't take it! She now says, "you take 4 extra glazed!" At about the same time, a guy walks around the corner and says more chocolate donuts are ready. The older lady immediately exclaims, "the donuts are too soft, they will be messy!" As I ask, how long the donuts take to harden, she just keeps demanding that "the donuts are too soft, too soft!!!" The young girl behind the counter has the idea of putting the 4 "fresh & soft" chocolate donuts in a separate box so they can harden, the older lady interrupts her and says, "no!" REALLY?! An extra box is to much to ask? Aren't you in the business to SELL DONUTS?! At this point, I'm ready to walk but for the love of my son, decided to take the 4 glazed instead. The older lady then walks to the back, throws 4 soft, runny chocolate donuts in the box and starts to ring me up. I questioned why she did that since I just agreed to the 4 glazed donuts. She starts yelling, "I told you they were too soft and they'd be messy!!!" I tried to explain that I just agreed to take the glazed donuts and stated, "this is crazy!" The older lady then starts to yell at me saying, "don't call me crazy, I'm not crazy!" Well, I DID NOT call her crazy, I said the situation was crazy, which it was! Needless to say, I walked out! The entire trip was a waste of my time! If you don't want to sell 3 dozen unexpected donuts, tell the customer that when they walk in! She was so annoyed and so frazzled. I grew up with Baker Ben's donuts and I love them! This place had great donuts. But the customer service wasn't so great. The sign said that they have ice mochas, which I know they do because I get them at my usual baker Ben's location. The lady behind the counter said that they are out of ice! When I asked her when they will get ice she said she didn't know. She said that, "she still has to fix it." I don't know who she is but to me when you have a sign displaying that you have iced mochas you should have ice. Right? I rolled that around in my head for a minute, and took it as "Welcome." I see that I am not the only reviewer who felt the BIG CHILL. I'll be honest, I won't come again. ATTENTION! If you're wondering why Baker Ben's has had tons of bad reviews lately it is because they CHANGED OWNERS and didn't tell anyone. There has been a huge decline in quality of product (their chocolate frosting now has black flecks in it?!? What the heck!) and cleanliness. At the same time there has been a massive rise in employee rudeness and general attitude problems. It is not uncommon to walk in only to find them yelling YELLING at a customer. Unprofessional, at best. To top it all off they pass their credit card fees right on to the customer...with a hefty increase just for fun. Used to be credit was free with a $5 minimum and debit was $.35 but now it is $.50 per transaction no matter what. And you know what? They don't give a flying poop about it. My friend and I came in last night. The donut case had maybe 6 old pastries in it, but stayed because we saw the man making more in the back. After 5 minutes of us waiting, literally right in front of the cash register, watching him glaze donuts, never looking up, he eventually stopped and walked to the register. By this time a family had already walked in as well and was waiting behind us. We asked if we could buy a few fresh donuts from the back because we didn't want the 6 old apple fritters and weird tortilla glazed roll ups in the case, and he said no, the entire 8 dozen that was visible to us was for an "order". And we left, and so did the family behind us. Why say you're open for 24 hours when you don't value your customers time or needs, and then throw attitude back at your customers. Last night I ordered 6 donuts. I just pulled the last maple bar out of the bag and took and bite and my eyes saw a black hair on the other end of the maple bar. *GAGS* It was stuck in the frosting! I threw the donut away. I call up the shop and told the guy on the other end that there was a short black hair on my frosting of my donut......He says something that I don't understand...I said "Sorry, What? He then yells at me "What donut do you want?!" At that point I slam the phone down. How rude. I am shocked. Never again will I ever go there to get donuts. And if the owner of Baker Ben's reads this....here's a suggestion. How about apologizing 1st when a customer lets you know there is a hair in their food. Boy, was I disappointed in Baker Ben's recently. I've waited days to write this review because I wanted to not be at the peak of my anger while composing it. I recently stopped at Baker Ben's to pick up donuts for my crew at work. I carefully made sure to pick each donut to match the requests given by my employees, and also couple for myself. Since the counter is so high, you are not able to observe what is going into your box before they seal it. Maybe it's my fault for not checking before I left, but it's donuts. I don't think I've ever had someone screw up a donut order. I was wrong. I got work (15 minutes away) and opened up my box to find half of my order completely wrong. It's not a matter of mixed up orders between two guests because I was the only one in the shop at the time. The main thing that bugged me was, the one I got for myself...the most basic of all donuts, chocolate...was not there! Grrrr I called them up and let them know my order was incorrect and was asked to bring it back. I let them know I was working all day and so they graciously invited me to return the next day. Next day. I'm stoked. I go into the shop with one of my co-workers excited to get the donuts that were offered to me by the person I talked to on the phone the previous day. I let them know I was there to have my order replaced from the previous day. I was then quickly accused of lying. Basically told that if I didn't bring the donuts back from the previous day, I must be lying and trying to cheat my way into getting six donuts. As I tried to explain that I did not bring them back because, well they are donuts and people ate them. It did not excuse the fact that my order was incorrect and I was invited to return. The lady at the counter dismissed me and started to help another guest. I walked out very upset. She had embarrassed me in front of my co-worker and the others in the shop to made me feel like some kind of free loader. I went next door to buy a breakfast burrito for myself and co-worker. I thought about the situation. I remembered I had my receipt in my wallet. I walked back over and showed this lady my receipt and offered her proof I had been there the previous day and let her know she had a thing or two to learn about good service. She scoffed and said she didn't embarrass me. She said "Fine! What do you want!" I informed her I didn't want her donuts. This was no longer about replacing an order that had been incorrect, but about making a guest feel welcome and appreciated. I didn't get that. I walked out and left, as she ignored me while I was talking to her and once again made me feel like a fool. Sad part is, I actually like the product here. I would be a promoter of the excellent donuts at Baker Ben's. Sadly, I won't return ever again. Service is an important piece of your business. Making a guest happy should be priority number one. I'm sure her actions don't speak for everyone in the place, but at this point it doesn't matter to me. Good Riddance Baker Ben's. Headed to the Lake and was looking for a quick snack for Breakfast. Sonic is my usual stop off of Douglas was closed down. I was heart Broken until I ran into this little Gem. The place is Family owned and I was happy to see that they were of Asian descent. I asked the customers in line if the Donuts were any good. They looked at me like I was crazy, but gave me some suggestions and assured me that they are the best Donuts around. I wound up getting a Jelly raspberry, Maple bar with Custard filling, and a Apple Fritter. I also purchased a couple of Donut Holes for good measure. A good value since it was only $5.15 and all of the Donuts were Phenomenal. The Maple Custard was like having a "Long John" from Napoleon's in Hawaii. They are open 24 hours and take debit cards with purchases over $5.00. The place is Clean and the place has Friendly service with good Donuts makes it an easy 5 Star rating. read more

One night out of the blue I actually was craving a maple bar, and this place was open 24 hours. They were well stocked, fresh and pretty tasty too.
