Great, not good, bagels. I've been in NY my whole life and this is the real deal, rivaled by essa bagel of course but to be honest Bakers Dozen has a bigger menu. The service is snappy but they're not rude, I mean anybody who's ever worked in a coffee shop or bakery knows that a lotta customers are grumpy until they get their coffee too. They have a full-time deal here where you get 9 bagels for the price of 6, which compensates for them being a dollar a bagel. This place is kickass. Even before I lived in Greenpoint and I would stop by on business, I stopped in here for loaded sandwiches. Especially the broadway which is turkey and pastrami with meunster cheese, cole slaw and russian dressing on a bagle. It's HUGE and prices very cheap at 7$. For the meat you get, it would be fair at 10. The staff are very nice and friendly and the atmosphere is laid back. The bagles are boiled and hand made and the prices are good. The cream cheese selection is great and it's all boars head meet. The staff sometimes play heavy metal which is cool too. This is my go to sandwich place, at least once a week. read more

Today was the last time I will be ordering from them. I've had a few issues with this place in the past but now I'm done. Part of my order were 2 egg wraps with spinach and swiss cheese and one of the wraps had grit in it. UGH! When I examined the ingredients, they didn't look like they usually do. There was brown stuff inside that tasted odd as well. Disgusting. Also, I ordered one pound of cream cheese with lox and they gave me just 8 ounces. I called the restaurant and they told me to call delivery.com to resolve the issue because I ordered online and they were in the process of closing. I had to ask the guy on the phone to turn down the radio in the background while I was talking because I couldn't hear what he was saying. Seriously? Wasn't the first time that happened either. Also, sometimes their bagels aren't that fresh but thankfully they were ok today. This was supposed to be brunch for myself, my daughter and my son and it was just a disaster. I just went in here for a sandwich to go. I originally asked for a breakfast wrap but was told breakfast isn't served after 3:30P. Fair. I then asked for a fried chicken cutlet with bacon and other fixings. Bacon is considered a breakfast item and therefore is not served after 3:30P. Also fair. Except for the fact that bacon is listed in many lunch sandwiches on their menu board. I pointed this out and was told, by José, that the owner knows of this discrepancy and doesn't care to fix it. Fine. I ended up ordering the sandwich, sans bacon. NBD. I waited next to the cashier to be rung up. José's co-worker avoided eye contact with me and helped two men that walked in and began to ring them up. I told him that I had been waiting in line to pay and was there first so I should be rung up before the two men (at this point I just wanted to grab my sandwich bag and go). He told me not to worry; that I could pay after he was done helping the men. I said, "No, I have been here waiting to pay. I'd like to pay now." He obliged, I grabbed my sandwich to go, and I left. When I got home, I found that José had made the wrong sandwich altogether. I called the bagel shop to speak to a manager. There is no manager or owner in the store. I spoke to José and let him know the mistake. He said, "I could tell I was going to have a problem with you because of your demeanor." Apparently, josé and his co-worker do not appreciate when customers insist on being tended to in the order that they walk in the door. There is a reviewer here said that this place serves up douchebags. That reviewer is right! Oh, and José asked if I wanted my sandwich heated up. I said yes. I come here whenever I'm in town and consistently have gotten excellent bagels paired with a delicious variety of flavored cream cheeses, like olive or sun-dried tomato. They also have good hot and iced coffee. People I've come with have gotten breakfast sandwiches that look tasty, and all of these items come at a good price for the quality. As far as the space itself, there is usually plenty of space to sit on weekdays and almost always somewhere on weekend mornings. They keep the place clean. In addition, recently went here with a group of 7 and everyone was in awe. When visiting New York, I stayed in the Green Point neighborhood. Almost everyday I was in the city, I made it a point to stop here for bagels, or a bagel sandwhich. The service was awesome. I had to use the restroom once, and they took me back into the kitchen. Very kind. The bagels were excellent, my personal favorite was the Roast Beef Bagel Sandwhich. I was almost charged 8 bucks for a sausage egg and cheese. The cashier attempted to explain that a flat bagel needs more egg and sausage than a regular bagel. They also charge more for the flat. This place has improved quite a bit, their bagels were always great and so is their coffee, but their staff was not great. It seems they have really shaped up staff-wise, they are courteous and accurate now, which has me showing up more often. True it does get kind of crowded around lunch but so do most things in this hood. I find them really cheap, $3 for a bagel with cream cheese & tomatoes and a large coffee. Really great bagels and paninis! I went here because I was really craving pesto and I got the Italian and it was delicious. Nice 'n' cheesy. I haven't found many good bagel places in the Greenpoint area, but I had a really nice, soft everything bagel with lox here and that too was delicious. I lived in Greenpoint for 4 years and Baker's Dozen was my number one spot. I've since moved to LA and really miss these guys. I was back in BK one weekend and decided to treat friends to a bagel spread. Baker's Dozen was ON it. They did an amazing job with an artistic lox platter, threw in extra bagels, and had everything ready when I came to pick up. We have ordered from Baker's Dozen for the last time. I don't understand what is so hard about following the simple instructions I provided. I just don't get it. Cream cheese and bacon on the side. I get bacon on the side and on the bagel?! I'm not one who usually complains about extra bacon, but the bagel is now all soggy. Not to mention it looks like my bagel was cut by a toddler using arts & crafts scissors. You have one job and cannot even do that well. I used to come here a lot when I lived in Greenpoint. Huge, fluffy bagels and a great selection of cream cheeses within walking distance from my apartment. Consistently late delivery. I live in the neighborhood and they still manage to be a minimum of 20 minutes late. My order is 80% accurate and always cold. Not sure if the delivery guy is kicking the food down the street or if they just make it that way, but this is the last time I order from them. The bagels may be good but the attitudes toward the customers are ridiculous to say the least. I thought that people were being sensitive and over reacting about the staff here. Over time I learned they were not. In the beginning I enjoyed getting bagels from here. I was pleased to get my toasted sesame with tofu cream cheese. I even gave a tip a few times. Then I started to notice a negative energy coming from some of the workers there. Because of that I stopped going from once a week to about once or twice every other month. To me I got the sense like they were doing me a favor for taking my order and could care less if I came back or not. There is one guy there that does not need to deal with the public at all. Not in person, not over the phone, just put him in the back somewhere. To the managers that read these reviews, if your wondering why your profits are down-you might want to record all your incoming phone calls. I recently tried to call in an order. I asked for my usual bagel with tofu cream cheese and a bran muffin. Mr. rude guy on the phone says "we don't have bran we only have raisin bran". Thinking out loud I repeated "raisin bran?", he snaps back (with as much attitude as you can imagine) "thats what I said!!". Really? Who do you think your talking to? I snapped back "I know thats what you said, Im trying to decide if thats what I want!" Then I just told him to cancel my entire order. I'm done with this place-never going back. Enter and prepare to be neglected by an entire posse of adult adolescents lost in a pulsing heavy metal fugue as blasted through a tomato-can speaker. The once respectable lentil soup ( (the last reason that ever kept me coming back) has now been officially replaced by a container of brown dishwater floating a half dozen former carrots, fingernail-sized. I used to go to Baker's Dozen every morning but stopped doing so months ago. The reason is I notice that when the manager is not there in the mornings things are ran differently. The phone rings longer, if they answer at all, the greeting if you go in can be dry and if you are privileged to get through via phone to call in an order, it may not be done by the time you arrive or not correct at all. When the manager is there, the service is STELLAR but I've gotten tired of the inconsistency and have chosen other places to get breakfast. I would still go there in a pinch because they have good breakfast for the most part but I've gotten to a point where I don't want to spend my money in places that don't always show the best service. After a few more visits Its still a miserable experience dealing with these rude employees. They have their personal iPods blasting music making you repeat your order numerous times, very annoying! Just turn the music down! The employees always make you feel as if your annoying them by requesting service. Even after this review I have seen new employees hired with the same bad attitude. It seems the owner only hires bad attitude employees. This is a real shame because these are by far the best bagels in the area and I would frequent this place alot more If I didnt have to deal with the rudeness and blasting hip hop when I place an order.
