This is THE bagel place to go to in GP. All the rest do not hold a candle to this place. Sure the service is slow sometimes, but if you get a simply order it will be ready right quick. The bagels are large and doughy, and they give you a fat schmear of cream cheese. The selection of bagels is always pretty big, and their menu is absolutely enormous. Their bacon egg and cheese on a bagel is cheap and delicious. The works are honestly really nice, even though they may not be the most efficient. I have a secret to tell you: This is the best bagel in all of New York. I cannot comment on what they offer to put on the bagels because I have not tried any of these delicacies, and admittedly, I doubt I'd be impressed. But as for the actual bagel, hot damn. It's cooked to a golden brownness and it's plump, which means lots of sweet, fluffy bagel bread meat inside. And they shape the bagels so that the bagel hole is minimal. The bagel hole kind of looks like a butthole, but just don't think about that when you're eating the bagel. At least the bagel's tight butthole is preventing your cream cheese from oozing out, which is of extreme importance. I have another secret to tell you: Buy these bagels whole (i.e., do not get them sliced). Do not have them toasted there. In fact, never have your bagel toasted anywhere. Take the bagel home, put a little bit of water on the outside of the bagel, place it in a 300-degree toaster oven, bake it for 10 minutes, and then slice it. You don't want the bagel's inside bread meat to be hard. That's a rookie mistake. It should be soft and warm throughout. I have a final secret to tell you: I'm pregnant. THE BABY IS YOURS. read more

This does not justify their downright rudeness. I feel like my order is being taken by the high school football team that got called into the principals office for bad behavior. Baker's Dozen, you guys are my go to place for bagels. I used to have a favorite place in Brooklyn but you guys might have taken over. The freshness of your bagels and muffins are to die for. I've only ever order over the phone to go and I've never been in the store. The reason why I can't give this place five stars is because it always takes them over an hour to get to me and the size of the muffins have shrunk drastically for some reason. I hate giving bad reviews but I'm just fed up with this place and I need to vent. I'm passionate about bagels and this place continues to utterly and completely let me down. As there are very limited options for bagels in greenpoint, I've given them many chances with no avail. I honestly wish I could give them zero stars especially because it appears they are paying Yelp Elite accounts to give them good ratings. (highly doubt those are legit) PLEASE SOME OPEN A GOOD NY BAGEL PLACE IN GREENPOINT! IT WOULD MAKE A KILLING! I've been here at least 10 times (as I said before, very limited options until Bread brother's opened) and they have yet to get my order correct. You HAVE to toast bagels twice, if not three times, because the bagels are usually under cooked and doughy. BUT they unfortunately never seem to actually toast the bagel twice, even after reiterating the order three times (happened today). I literally could not pull the two halves of the bagel apart today because it was so doughy and then the whole thing fell apart. Pro-tip: They always use too much cream cheese. So annoying. They have forget something on my order 100% of the time, even though I always order the same thing and it feels like a pretty standard to me: tomatoes, onion, light low fat scallion, and lox, toasted twice. The worse part is I usually forget to check if they got it right, before leaving the restaurant, and then not until I'm home, on the couch, ready to hit play on the season finally of Fargo, do I discover a missing variable in my perfect equation of delishisness. What a buzzkill. The one time I actually called them to complain about mess ups or that my bagel had not been toasted even once, they did send me a new one, which had WAY to much cream cheese again, and no onions. So I will give them credit for at least willing to make things right... It really just comes down to the fact that I don't think any of the workers in there actually even like bagels or knows what a good bagel sandwich looks like. They just throw them together with out thinking of the best end result. It's not rocket science but you have to start with at least a good point of reference to strive too. Sorry for the rant. Approximately 6 employees behind the counter, and even with 4 of them doing nothing my sandwich took 15 minutes. Food was edible, but below average. Pricing was acceptable, but above average. All sandwich toppings are charged separately, even lettuce. I'm pretty sure the grilled chicken was grilled yesterday, and then microwaved (I'm certain the microwave was used, but I can't be certain if it was for my chicken or someone else's order). This well established bagel hot spot has several advantages over its only competition in the neighborhood, Bagel Brothers, a fee streets over. It's clean well lit spacious modern and not super old and sketchy like most NY bagel establishments. Always a decent crowd in line there. Especially in the early morning hours. A good sign. They're open for business daily both earlier and later than you'd expect. The staff is exactly what you'd imagine; underpaid and they know it Latino guys who serve and engage with each customer with the exact level of respect (or lack of) and casualness to express how much they dislike their job BUT appreciate having it. No one thing stands out about them. They're there. They serve. They do a good job at it. Best of all though is their food. Not the best I've ever had. That distinction still goes to that little shop on First Ave on the UES in Manhattan. But this place does have fresh and hot out of the oven bagels that are more than just adequate; and a large variety of them to boot. The ET (Everything) bagel is great. They also offer a wide variety of spreads, each as tasty as the next, including the not so common peanut butter. Surprise surprise. As well as a decent selection of breakfast and lunch sandwiches. Nothing too bad here. In fact if you're ever in the mood for a hot bagel, this should be your regular stop. Recommended. This is probably the place I frequent most in Greenpoint because it's really close and convenient, but I've never done a review because, well, it's the standard, local sandwich place. It's not like anything has been so outstanding or memorable that I have felt compelled to write about it. That being said, I DID feel compelled to write about it after I read the other crappy reviews here. I have been to Baker's Dozen many times, and I happen to LIKE the service. I think the hessian/gangsta dudes behind the counter are awesome, and the owner (or guy who seems to run the place) is always nice to me. The sandwiches and ingredients are so much fresher and higher in quality than all the nasty convenience store "delis" around the 'hood, and they have a few unique items like FLAT everything bagels, which I love. Can't say how many times I've tried to let them make my orders right but again and again fail! Asked for a hot machiado and got a regular coffee with sugar and poured milk. This place has definitely rude staff. Bunch of young guys who look like they are lazy to take care of anyone. Particularly upsetting is the fact that I order the hungry man special which comes with 3 eggs, bacon, french toast, home fries, a bagel with butter, and coffee. My favorite bagel spot in New York and it's right down the street! This place will make you pretty much any kind of sandwich you want, on a bagel or otherwise, and they're very generous with the freshly sliced meat and cheese. Oh, and they offer WHOLE WHEAT EVERYTHING BAGELS. All the salt, flavor, and carbs, but the whole wheat part helps you delude yourself into thinking you made a healthy choice. These are the best bagels in Greenpoint. Whole wheat everything is my favorite. They also have hazelnut coffee and you can fix your coffee while you wait in line! The workers here really hustle and have this very cute softball team thing going on. Noel always says hi and remembers my order. I am a regular at the Kew Garden's location and now work in Greenpoint so of course when I want a sandwich I go to Baker's Dozen, because I know are of good quality with food, unfortunately the guys that work in Greenpoint are not as good as the guys over in Kew Gardens. The aren't as quick or friendly. Most of them seem very uninterested in their job. Just picked up a sandwich from there, which I wanted on rye bred, I got a sandwich on a sesame bagel. Too bad I HATE bagel sandwiches. I called to complain and they wouldn't let me speak to the manager, who I just saw in there five minutes earlier and the guy who answered the phone didn't offer an apology. And the heavy metal music is a little much sometimes while you're trying to have breakfast on a Sunday.
