Another success in my culinary hot spots book! Hard core BBQ decorations line the walls while chefs just keep chopping brisket, pulling pork and grilling chicken. Yum. Staff super friendly as I picked up an order for 20! Scott's guidance for amounts was spot on. Everyone enjoyed the brisket, pulled pork and chicken on buns. Caesar salad was the favorite side, well, maybe the baked beans won! Cole slaw was also happily piled on plates. Didn't take pics, but "the next best thing to Texas BBQ!" We've been coming to Baker's Ribs for years now, and it's always something we look forward to enjoying! We also love the catering offerings for your bigger gatherings. The space itself is situated in a small strip mall, so there is plenty of lot parking in the vicinity. The interior is wacky, cozy, and a place to simply take in and enjoy. The smells of the smoker, the kitschy amount of pigs everywhere, and the rumble of fellow patrons enjoying their BBQ. The owner can usually be found behind the bar, chopping up the best BBQ in the Cities! The food is phenomenal! I usually go for the chopped brisket (pre-mixed with BBQ sauce) or the sliced brisket, but the ribs are "fall off the bone" tender. Drove some way to try this Texas-style bbq joint, with colorful signs all over the walls. Better than most of the bbq I've actually had in Texas. The ribs were perfectly tender, just ideal. Sauce, not too spicy, comes in a bottle they give you with your food. Sides a little more mixed: the dirty rice was overly dry and rather plain, but the corn salad was really good. Ambiance was pretty hard core BBQ. Think Cracker Barrel OG wall-to-wall decor. I like that they could recycle the bottles from sodas and drinks. Food was good. Not OG Texas fresh, but a good local substitute. And I speak from experience having family in Austin, Texas, where we visit multiple times a year and always enjoy the local barbecue. This is a close second and all that's available locally that even comes close. My other recommendation (bit if a drive) is ZZQ. The only other BBQ place I can think of that gives this place a run for their money. Service is good, but a bit on the slow side the Saturday we went. Only one chef in the back chopping and a line out the door. Chicken was good, a bit dry, not as juicy as I experience in TX. The brisket was fine shred and soft. I like a bit more chunk and cut. I did appreciate the variety of sides, but a bit bummed that the toast was so over buttered it made the bread soggy. Down south they literally just give you bread slices. No adds or toasting. The bbq sauce was rich and plentiful. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and gave us some recommendations for the sides. We ended up getting 4 different kinds - beans, coleslaw, dirty rice, and pasta salad. They were all good in their own way but none of them were extraordinary. As for the place itself. Twenty years ago I really loved Baker's Rib's. It can still be really good, but I find these days it is inconsistent and the owners and workers are less engaged with both the business and their customers. I can't remember the last time I was here that it was full. On this recent visit I saw a sign for a family dinner for $32.99 and with optional upgrade to brisket for $34.99. The sign didn't describe the meal and I erroneously thought the brisket upgrade would be additional meat, not a plate of JUST brisket. In my brain I presumed the family dinner would be a variety of meats, not a single smoked meat. While my mistake, I think this is a great example of the owners/staff being dis-engaged. THEY may know what the family dinner includes, but their guests may not. Potato salad was as good as always, dirty rice was not quite as good. The brisket had great flavor and included two chunks of meat, one super fatty and one super lean and dry. I can't recall a visit in years where the staff were engaged and friendly. They all looked bored and don't want to be there and the restaurant is beginning to look tired. I also find it annoying that they are weighing everything prior to serving. They've been in business for more than 25 years, they should know what a pound of meat looks like. read more

What a great spot! Had an early dinner here with my wife last night. The owners were super nice and gave us the run down! Super friendly, I got the three meat plate (sliced brisket, pork and sausage) with beans, dirty rice and Texas toast! Good portions for the cost! Pork was my favorite, the brisket could have been a tad more moist and sausage was just ok. My wife got the rib special, the ribs were good but it seemed like we had some that were old/dry and not as fresh and others that were great. Some fell right off the bone which was nice, I noticed the membrane was still on the ribs which is not typical? Very cozy vibes in here though! After getting my hair cut next door, I decided to try Baker's Ribs after asking a family walking out the door how their meal was. They said it was great - enough for me to try it. Upon entering, I was surprised at how large the dining area was adorned with antiques, license plates hanging on the wall, and pigs hanging from the ceiling! You place your order at the counter then quickly receive your order. I ordered their House Special - 1/3 lb. chopped beef sandwich with your choice of two sides from 8 options. I chose traditional coleslaw and potato salad for my sides. You choose your condiments at a separate counter where I grabbed some pickles and pickled jalapeño. As for my meal, the chopped beef was a little smoky, but that's all I can say was positive. I did not detect any beef flavor and the texture was mushy. I tasted the bbq sauce that tasted like watered down ketchup, so I asked for a spicy bbq sauce that tasted the same, only with some heat. The coleslaw was my favorite part of the meal that was fresh and crunchy, but under seasoned. The potato salad was do bland with the texture of chunky mashed potato, and it was quite dense and again under seasoned. I added salt and pepper to get more flavor, but it just wasn't there. I was disappointed with the lack of flavor, and I will unlikely return. read more

Been here a few times now. When you walk in you order at a counter and they cut the meat(s) and prepare your plate for you. The brisket was a bit chewy and overdone, not tender. The baked beans were very flavorful and probably the highlight of the meal. Bread was good, barbecue sauce on each table was very tasty. Eh, what a strange experience. Most folks said this place was good but my food was mediocre at best. I've never been to a place that left the membrane on the ribs, much less a place with ribs in their name, it's just not pleasant. The cook on the ribs was good, but so flavorless. If you don't add their bbq sauce, it was just so bland. The bbq sauce is warm, thin, and very vinegary, so if that ain't for you, then maybe this place isn't right for you. My wife's brisket was not cooked well, and wasn't a good mix of meat and fat, just kind of dry and tough. The baked potato is nothing special either. Overall pretty let down. Staff didn't seem all too thrilled to be there either. read more

For starters, I should have paid attention to the review picture. A good Texas pit would never serve on small styrofoam plates. Texas style BBQ near Twin Cities. I needed a place to stop for lunch before heading to the airport. I read about this great BBQ spot close to where I had meetings and decided to give it a shot since they were closed for dinner the night before (due to Memorial Day). Baker's Ribs is the real deal located in a small shopping center close to the highway exit. It was pretty easy to find and they had plenty of parking when I arrived around 11:40 am. They had some decorations on the walls and all around. I also felt good about my decision when I saw the line out the door so early. You place your order at the counter and then pay at the end of the line. Drinks are self-service. They also have some peanuts near where you order that you can eat while you wait on your food as they cut the meats per each order. The line moved pretty fast and they have lots of seating. I opted to try the ribs (since it's part of their name) and went with their four bone lunch special with 1 side and added a ¼ lb of turkey. The meats were very good. The beans were also on point. They had sweet tea, plenty of lemons and a fixins bar with pickles, onions and more. I even liked the warm BBQ sauce they had on every one of the tables along with a roll of paper towels. A nice touch. Everything looked very good and they had some sides that you don't normally find at a BBQ place. I certainly recommend this place and would go back if I'm in the area again. read more

I'm on a series of business trips, and I spent the previous two weeks in Texas. I was jones-ing for some BBQ. The brisket was good, a bit moist for my taste, as I prefer lean. The counter staff was efficient, and my plate of sliced Brisket, Beans, and Dirty rice was ready right away. The house sauce was a bit thin, but warmed and had a bit of spice. The tables are a bit crowded, but the seating was clean and plentiful. In general a nice dinner, but I'll return to Texas for better BBQ. read more
