Came here before the tigers game. Service was efficient. Mech was our waitress and she helped answer our 101Questions on the menu about food and drinks-- she is awesome! We enjoyed the guacamole- so fresh and chips and the happy hour drinks. Tacos are flavorful. Tortilla was not warm. Will plan to come back in the future!

Came on a Saturday night with reservations and it was packed but we were sat quickly! Our server was quick as well which was nice bec we had tickets for a show. Now the chips were AWFUL like a pile of grease the server did get us new ones upon request but that's just how the chips were which was absolutely unfortunate but the short rib queso was good at least!! The tacos were good but the tortillas were cold which also was not great. By far the fish taco was the best followed by the shrimp, short rib, then pork. All in all it was a good experience and the margaritas were good!

I tried this spot for the first time. The tacos were decent but I needed some kinda sauce to add to them. We had the Baja Shrimp Taco, Pollo Verde Taco, El Pastor. In edition we had the Mexican style empanadas and short rib queso which were all pretty good. I especially loved the spicy margaritas. Servers were very nice. Only thing I didn't like as much was the seating as it was picnic style.

My girlfriend and I came here after a Tiger's game. We had passed by many times and it always smelled amazing. We were seated right away and ordered the dinner for 2, which is one dip, two bocaditos or app/sides, and 6 tacos. We also shared a pineapple margarita. We added chorizo to our queso, so an $11 dip, and it was smaller than we expected. However, it was very tasty. Our bocaditos came, she had the rice and beans $7, and I had the stuffed poblano pepper $10. Outside of one taco, this was our favorite part of the meal. The rice and beans were cooked perfectly and tasted great. My stuffed poblano left me wanting another one. (Total $25 or $28 w/ chorizo) The only reason im including pricing is to point out that $27 dollars went to six tacos. So each one was $4.50 They were street taco sized... Pictures all show what we got. The only one i would recommend would be the baja shrimp taco, it was killer. The rest were nothing to write home about. Also the margarita at $12, in a mason jar was cute, but we didnt order another. If we were to go back, it would be for an appetizer before we got dinner elsewhere. Its a nice place, and the overall experience was positive. Just expensive, and there are way better places around to get more bang for your buck.

I've been here a couple of times now... I've tried a few different things on the menu. It's a great place with a great atmosphere and the perfect location to grab a bite to eat before an event downtown. Service is always great. The food comes quickly even when the restaurant is over crowded with fans dining out before a game. The tacos are okay. The short rib queso is okay. I asked for some tajin to sprinkle on-top and it took the dish up a a few notches. I really think they should consider just putting that on there in the 1st place. The dish went from a 5/10 to a 9/10. It was amazing after the fact. The tajin tastes so good, I like to lick it off the rim of my drink (no shame). They put it on the rim of the pineapple margarita which I'm very obsessed with. That was the only thing on the menu that I truly love and will rave about. I got it every time I went. I didn't care for the papas or the taquitos. The presentation is nice but that's about it. Would I go back? Yes, absolutely for the pineapple margarita and the tajin seasoning to put on-top of the queso dip.

I can't believe it's taken me this long to make it to this glorious place! I cannot wait to go back! We made reservations before a wings game. Parking was tough to find. We got a pitcher or margaritas which was a great choice. And the tacos, oh my goodness, sooooooo delicious! I think about them often and look forward to more soon!

Grab some tasty tacos before a downtown event, or anytime! Love this place. We sat at the bar and ordered the baja shrimp tacos. Small in size but at $4.50 a piece you really can't do much better than this. Mix and match with other taco styles--chicken, fish, pork, braised short rib and more. A fun atmosphere to just hang out, enjoy a drink from their extensive drink menu. Gets quite crowded on game days so a good idea to consider making a reservation.

Definitely recommend making a reservation here, especially on game days! It gets very busy here and for good reason -- the tacos are so tasty! My friends and I all loved the baja shrimp taco and the queso. I only got one taco and rice and beans, but loved the taco so much, I wish I got another. I'll echo others and say that you'll likely need to find parking elsewhere.

Two of us went on a Thursday at 4pm with no reservations just as they opened. It's bench style seating with a country/western theme to it and TVs all around. We were seated right away and our drink orders taken. Within 3 minutes our cocktails arrived and we were able to place our order for apps and entrees right after. Those also came out quickly and looked amazing. Our server was very nice and checked on us regularly and topped off our waters when they were low. To start off we got the honeydew margarita and the grapefruit radler cocktail. Both were delicious! I'm not much of a drinker and that was the first time I finished a margarita by myself. We chose the dinner for two that included chips & dip, 2 apps, and 6 tacos for $26 per person which wasn't too bad for all that was included. We ordered the basic chips and salsa that came with a salsa roja and salsa verde. The verde was my favorite of the two since it was more sour. The roja was just a bit too sweet for me. For apps, we ordered the esquites and the chicken taquitos as well. The esquites, while they were good, we expected it to be a hot dish rather than a cold dish but still enjoyed it and even dipped our chips into it like a salsa. The chicken taquitos were such a surprise when they arrived to the table plated beautifully and made with blue corn tortillas! We loved them. We tried several different tacos including the pollo verde, carnitas, fish, and al pastor. Each taco had it's own unique flavor and were also well-presented. By the time we were ready to leave the restaurant was full with red wings fans catching a meal before the game. It was a nice atmosphere to be in. Cool place to try when you're downtown!

We came here for dinner today and the food was great! The restaurant does take reservations, which was convenient. We shared the queso and it was delicious. My friend got the Willie salad and like it. I got some tacos: pollo verde, baja shrimp, and cochinita pibil (pork). The shrimp and pork were my favs, they were so good. Overall this was great food with fast service.

Bakersfield is pretty solid. You can get some good whiskey, you can get some good tequila options, you get some food at the same time. Drinks are actually pretty good from there. They have a mezcal Margarita. That's actually pretty solid. There's a very nice and spacious bar area so there's plenty of places to sit at the bar. They also have copious amounts of seeding outside of the bar. So you really don't have an excuse unless packed to the brim. Getting yours going to be right on Woodward but there's of course, street parking. You can pay to get parking in the front of the building or along the sides around where the gray ghost is. But there's options. If it's a busy night, you may have to do a little bit of circling the block. Again I will say the food is good. This night, the last night that I went, it really wasn't warm like I would have thought it should have been. The last thing you want is almost warm. Okay, so we're almost warm tacos. But the flavor was still there. Short rib queso - The dip was good. Very good. It had plenty of case all around it and had plenty of chunks of meat and other additions that were very helpful to the flavor. Stuffed pepper - The pepper could have been warmer as I've mentioned, but it had a really good flavor to it. It was stuffed to the brim. It had a lot of kick to it. So if you're into something with a little bit of spice this is probably good for you to try. Short rib taco - This taco was good. It was a little bit dry but not like it was killing the taco, but it was noticeable. Chicken taco - pretty solid. This one was suffering trying to say anything. I mentioned earlier that it really could have been a little bit warmer or piping hot hopefully. But the flavor was there. It had the meat and the sweet put together very well. Shrimp taco - This one was pretty good. It came with a couple of piece of shrimp inside of it, it felt like it could have been more, but it was about two bites worth. Overall, if you are in the area for a quick bite and some potentially good drinks, stop by.

Normally the atmosphere is so chill but unfortunately Shannon the server decided to come over to the bar and ask to take our order but in the middle of taking our order she rudely interrupted and said I got other ppl on the floor to service!! Probably my favorite spot in Detroit for tacos! Always a really good time. I highly recommend the margarita pitcher and splitting with some friends. My favorite tacos are the pollo rojo and the carnitas! The guac is also very solid. Fun place to go before an event at LCA. Usually able to find a spot at the bar if you can't get a table. read more

We've been hearing about Bakersfield for awhile now and finally decided to book a reservation when my Wife and I were going to be in downtown Detroit. I would highly recommend a reservation as I saw many walk-ins get turned around with an hour to hour and half wait time. There is outdoor seating year round in a heated tent where I saw people sitting. Now for the food. My wife and I split the short rib queso as an appetizer and it was very good. I highly recommend. We sampled several different taco choices for dinner. We tried the fish, baja shrimp, short rib and the pollo diablo which was a bit spicy to our surprise. Our favorite was definitely the short rib tacos. There was a house sauce that was tableside which was very good that I paired with my queso and tacos. Drinks were very good. My wife enjoyed the premium margarita and I had a modelo draft. Can't go wrong with that. If you're downtime, definitely check this place out. We will be back. read more

The cabbage slaw on the shrimp taco had amazing flavor!!! I'm not usually a slaw person but this one definitely enhanced and added great flavor without being overpowering. This place is the BOMB!! While it sort of says "hipster," my wife and I hardly come CLOSE to being hipsters, yet we were welcomed with open arms to this fabulous place in midtown Detroit. We were in the area and decided to stop for a Friday "welcome weekend" cocktail late this afternoon. Well, we sampled three different bourbons each from their extensive bourbon list and had what they call the trio" warm chips with guacamole and two different salsas - red and green. The red was rife with smokey poblano peppers and the guac was maybe the chunkiest we've ever had - delicious!! The verde was not bad either, but we just preferred the first two. They feature an AMAZING array of tequilas, and manager Craig, stopped by and gave us an extremely insightful education on the various tequilas featured and what makes the difference between agave and others, so, of course, we had to try one before leaving. We sampled the Banhez Mexcal and it was outstanding! They serve these "bowls" with something called "worm salt" on top of orange slices to clear the palate between sips - fantastic! As mentioned earlier, as, ahem, "mature" adults, we were made to feel VERY welcome, and couldn't help but notice that EVERY staff member who greeted, served or merely asked how were were doing was OUTSTANDING! Craig certainly has done a great job of assembling his staff, and we also noted that as shift changed, staffers seemed sincerely delighted to be working together, greeting each other like family. My first time here and it was great. Sat at the bar and the bartender was very attentive and suggested very good margaritas. Next I will do a sampler of tequilas. The food was great and good variety and few vegetarian tacos. The chips salsa and guacamole are amazing really could have sat there all day eating those drinking margaritas. When it comes to Mexican in Detroit they're are many choices and I wanted to try somewhere I haven't been so we came here. I'm glad we did because we really enjoyed ourselves and ate plenty of good food! The place was very lively and full of people. One of the highlights of the night was our sever Marvin. He was hilarious, really attentive, and helpful in picking out what we were going to order. After much consideration we decided on the queso and guacamole appetizer because who not. Both items were delicious although It doesn't taste like the typical queso you'd get from chipotle but still good nonetheless. After our appetizer I decided on the pineapple margarita because it seemed like the most popular. Turned out it was a good choice. Then my friend got the fish taco, and I ordered the Hongos(portobello)and huitlacoche(corn) tacos. I ate them so fast that I barely know what they tasted like but from what I remember they were tasty and suggested by Marvin. But we're not done, my favorite thing I had, being as I LOVE cauliflower was their roasted cauliflower roasted which included portobello, bell pepper, poblano, queso, queso fresco, and cilantro. Now the one thing that I should've done differently was sit at the bar because after a while the benches started to get uncomfortable, but that's our fault for staying there so long haha. First time eating there this evening after hanging at the DIA. My boyfriend and I were starving as we only had breakfast (we were there about 4 PM). So, I have 3 criteria for a good Mexican place: 1) Margaritas: I got the skinny and it was just lime juice. I could not taste the tequila. Mind you, I am a light weight and can barely drink 2 glasses of wine. This was so bad, that I did not want a second one. 2) Chips and salsa: we got the trio and guacamole was decent but lacked salt, tomatoes & jalapeños. It was meh and we did not finish. Verde was bland and lacked flavor. Rojo was decent. My guy liked both salsas. 3) Food: I got one shrimp taco (shrimp was deep fried - my miss and I didn't care for it) and short rib taco, this was good. Just like my drinks, I am not a big eater and these tacos were very small. Per taco was two - three bites max! I got the side of corn this was fantastic lots of flavor/spice!! Highly recommend! My boyfriend got the chicken taquitos and thought they were ok as they did not have enough filling. IMO not enough for an average guy. He said, he would not get them again. Since we are west siders, we will stick to our local places. But if ever out in Detroit again, may give it a second chance before writing it off. read more

First time at Bakersfield and we weren't sure what to expect. The atmosphere was neat and inviting. The service was great from the front desk to the server and bussers. We ordered queso and 5 tacos. We weren't sure if that was too much or not enough. The queso was the best part! OMG! The tacos were a bit if a let down. They might be the smallest tacos I have seen out at a restaurant... We might be back due to the spot, but the menu was a "been there once and you can try it all" with only starters, some salad options, tacos and taquitos. Worth a try. read more

Service and staff are amazing. Had a reservation for one on a late Saturday afternoon and I am sooo glad I had the foresite to make one. The placed was PACKED. I was about 10 minutes late but was seated immediately as soon as I came in. My server Eli was very sweet and quick. I ordered the fish taco, Up in Smoke cocktail, short rib queso and (on Eli's recommendation) the shrimp taco. The shrimp taco was actually the best, very crispy and the sauce was good. My fish taco was ok, it was fried really well but didn't have a lot of flavor and I'm not sure if it was supposed to have sauce but if so it was a very small amount and also had minimal flavor. My drink, the Up in Smoke had a somewhat weird taste to me initially but after letting my ice melt some and mellow the drink out it was very good. The short rib queso was not that good to me, the cheese had a weird texture and wasn't very creamy, and again the flavors were bland. I was disappointed because this was the one item I was really looking forward to trying. The menu isn't super extensive so I'm not sure if I would want to come back and try other things. The location is perfect though, I had a concert I was attending at Little Caesars arena and was able to walk there in 10 minutes! read more

We visited After seeing the GRINCH at the FOX. We enjoyed the entire dining experience. Haley was our waitress and she was very sweet. Helpful, smiling, interacted with our son and knowledgeable about the menu. Love the decor and style of the building also. The pineapple margarita was really good!! I want another one just thinking about it. We ordered queso for appetizer and it was full off flavor. Only downfall, the cheese on top clumped you so made it hard to dip when we got about half way in. We ordered the corn, chili and 2 tacos apiece. Alll were AMAZING!! Full of flavor, seasoned well and nice serving size. We ordered the shrimp, veggie, steak and beef taco. Yummmmmmmy. Definitely will return. read more

Some friends and I came here yesterday before a show at the Fox, I was curious to compare it to Imperial too. First off: it's LOUD in there. It could have been because there was a group of 22-year-olds doing shots at the table behind us (and I know they were 22, because they very loudly yelled "22!" and "Woooooo!" as they did the shots ...), or the fact that it was 6pm on a Tuesday, but I really dislike restaurants where you have to yell at your friends in order to hear them. Moving on ... The food was very good here. We split an order of the cauliflower ($6) - not on the menu, it was a special that day - and it was good but not what I was expecting. It was in some sort of cheese sauce and came with mushrooms and other veggies, and it was a bit spicy, too. A friend and I also both got pineapple margaritas ($10) and those were delicious. I ordered the Bistec taco and the prime rib; I believe most if not all the tacos are $4 each. A friend just told me that on Tuesdays after 10pm, they do half-off tacos for Taco Tuesday, too, so I'll have to go back for that. The Bistec taco was very, very tasty, and the prime rib was good, but not as good. My friends raved about the shrimp taco, also. The tortillas are made out of white corn and are a little crunchy, and are also very good. Waitservice was also very good, as soon as I ran out of water our waiter was back with refills. He also walked us through the menu when we got there. I'd definitely come back here again for tacos, but hopefully when it's a little less noisy. One of my friends said that in the summer, when it's warm out, they open up their garage doors (front doors) so I bet that would help with the noise level, too. read more

Atmosphere - we got a nice, big table for two. the space was welcoming and nicely decorated. the bar looked fun and there were some tvs playing football highlights. the lighting was uncomfortably dim, but this was one of very few cons to the experience Service - couldn't have been better! we came in with a reservation and were seated and greeted immediately. our waitress replenished our chips even when there were a few still left on the plate. I ordered a marg and it didn't even take long but she still checked in to say it would just be another minute. when it came time for the bill, she was super quick. overall 10/10 Drinks - I ordered the house marg. it tasted wonderful. probably the best I've had in a long time and was a decently heavy pour without the alcohol being overbearing at all Chips - we opted for salsas and chips. chips were FRESH, not oily, and perfectly salty. both salsas were fresh flavor bombs and had very different but good tastes, as well as generous portions Tacos - I ordered 3 1. Baja Shrimp Taco: awesome, not too oily, probably the most flavorful and well curated, would order again in a heartbeat 2. Pollo Verde: above average, flavorful, classic. can't go wrong ordering and I don't regret it but it wasn't standout to me 3. Huitlacoche: interesting, mild flavor. I was intrigued since this I haven't tried the dish before and it definitely wasn't bad but benefited from me adding some salsa on for flavor. probably wouldn't order again but I'm glad I tried it and would still recommend it to a friend on their first visit Side - we shared an order of esquites. flavor bomb in the best way. if I come back, these will be a must-order item read more

What an amazing place to get some tasty tacos and guacamole ! food was delicious ! our server, Scott was super friendly and nice and made our experience absolutely superb. This was the first of many more future visits to this amazing restaurant! This is probably the best Mexican food I have discovered in the entire Detroit area! Simply amazing! The tacos and taquitos were simply perfection and the margaritas were just as great! I can't believe I had never been here before. Ther service was top notch as well. Great location for drinks before a concert at the Little Cesar's arena ! I had the pineapple margarita and it was to die for !!!! Not super tart but not super sweet ! I couldn't even taste the alcohol (which is dangerous lol) My friend had the regular margarita and it was super tarty lol but good ! We had the queso to start ! And it was to die for ! Super cheesy and yummy !!! Recommended! Tacos look good but truly I just wanted to try the tortillas and they brought me a couple plain tortillas and I can tell you guys they taste just like real Mexican tortillas ( not the one u get at the stores but actually from Mexico...... I was extremely happy) I am not sure if I would like to try the full on taco cuz I didn't want to ruin the tortilla taste .. I had the milanesa Torta ! Chicken was super Crunchy, I was not fan of the lime avocado sauce ... it had to much lime that it kinda ruin the torta for me. My friend had the taquitos, there where 3 of them and barely had anything inside .... We also had the esquitez, which they serve it as a cold type of salad (even tho I have only had esquitez as a warm kind of soup) did not like it .... actually hated it. No desserts----:( (maybe they do have some but no offer) I gave it a four for the drinks, the app and the tortillas....and location But other than that dinner was a 3 star... Firstly, I really enjoyed the friendliness of the staff, from when we walked in to check in for our reservation, to our server (I wish I remembered her name). We were going to a concert at the Masonic Temple, so I chose this restaurant because of it's proximity to the venue and because I live Mexican food. We ordered the trio of salsas, guacamole and chips. The guacamole was very good and I'm a guacamole snob. There was also a Rojo and verde salsa. The Rojo had a smoky chipotle flavor , which is not mt favorite. Verde was good and we really liked the chips, which we asked for more because there's an ample amount of salsa. I had 2 margaritas, a pineapple and an original, they were both good, I liked the pineapple better. We ordered street tacos, we got short rib tacos, a pollo verde, al pastor and carnitas tacos. Also an order of the Esquites (cold corn, cotija salad dish). The tacos were all good, I felt like they were a bit bland though, maybe a little on the dry side, too. The service was quick, we had our drinks and app quick and the tacos also came out fast. I saw there were lots of people there to eat before the Tigers game, so they could get in and out quickly, I think we were there for only 45min. Nice decor inside, some of the seating is like picnic tables with benches, we moved from that type of table because there were yellow jackets or wasps all over the window by our table. The server knew of the issue and it sounds like it's an ongoing thing. She gladly moved us to a high top, which was comfier. read more

Went to Bakersfield for dinner to catch up with a friend and do like the location although it was an evening there was an event so parking was a bit tricky. Some parking lots were charging up to $30 for a spot. Once I did find a spot I was able to walk in and was greeted by the friendly hostesses. It's also nice they take reservations. We were sat by the window and also saw someone that parked in front of the restaurant who was blocking the qline tracks and was about to get towed (so be careful where you park). The one thing I didn't agree with was the country music playing. It just seemed like the wrong place for that genre music. We did enjoy the chips and gauc the chips seemed fresh and the gauc was very flavorful (as long as you like it on the chunkier side, almost have to use the spoon because it will crack the chip). Our server was friendly and tried to be attentive but I think he felt like he was interrupting our conversation so ended up not checking on us if we needed another drink but I get it's difficult when the guests are constantly talking. I tried Shrimp taco, the Al Pastor, and the short rib and I will say out of the 3 I like the shrimp taco it was very flavorful and you did get quite a lot of shrimp. The Al pastor was on the bland side and I believe I was eating bites of pork fat and it tasted like the meat was reheated and not fresh. The Short rib taco was a lot of short rib but unfortunately was on the bland side and the meet was on the drier side. I do like the space and think I would come for drinks and appetizers but would probably choose other places for dinner. I just left thinking there were better places for the price and service. read more

A must go to place in Detroit! During the summer, there is outside seating which is so nice for a happy hour. The employee there are always so nice and accommodating. I've never had a bad experience and I've been here a few times over the years! It can get pretty busy so make sure to have a reservation and the bar is first come first serve. The tacos here are probably my favorite in Detroit. Chips and salsa are always fresh. My favorite salsa is the red one in the picture which is pretty spicy! My all time favorite taco is the Baja shrimp. I could eat a million of them. The combination of the spice, breaded shrimp, and the slaw makes for an amazing, fresh flavor. I've also had the spicy chicken one and short rib which are very good! This time we tried two vegetarian tacos and they were both very favorable. The game changer of the dinner was the chicken tostada. OMG! This was my first time trying this and it was the most amazing thing ever! It consists of breaded chicken cutlets with a black bean spread and spring mix. It also came with a side of their green sauce to dip in. I can't really explain how amazing all the flavors were in this dish. I will for sure make this a regular in my order! read more

Terrible service and treated poorly by a hostess. I'm a nurse practitioner and work and live in the city. I rode my E Bike here with my Fiancé on7/3/23 and arrived around 2200. My Fiancé asked if we could be seated outside and the Hostess was extremely UNPLEASANT, Unprofessional, and RUDE in demeanor while waving her hand around. We were told there is no server working outside, however people were seated outside and being served and there were at least five open tables! I told my Fiancé let's go somewhere else and also immediately called and spoke with the manger. I told her what happened and she told me the hostess should not have said that and if I wanted to come back we could be seated outside and she would give us a gift certificate, however I turned that down and stated I only want the hostess reprimanded so no one else has to deal with this type of treatment. read more

It's fantastic to see so many new places popping up in Detroit. Each time I go back to the downtown area there are new places to visit. This was my first time at Bakersfield and it did not disappoint. The food is excellent and the service is friendly and professional. The interior of the place is really quite beautiful. I'm sure if you visit in the warmer months they make use of the windowed garage doors that open up to Woodward. They serve up the tacos on a raised platter which is quite appealing. The drinks menu is fairly large so plenty of options for everyone. It's walking fist to Little Caesers Arena so it's a great stop for pre-game snacks and/or drinks. Enjoy! read more

Wow. Bakersfield is a fantastic choice for food in Detroit. We went on a nice June day so they had the street windows open, it was cheerfully busy but never felt overwhelming. The serving staff was kind and thorough; the restaurant takes great pride in the freshness of their food. And it shows! We ordered the chips and queso and holy wow my partner and I both commented on how we don't know if we have had better queso. The chips are made in restaurant which is elevates this appetizer. There is a little smoky hot sauce on the table and it is worth adding to the queso FYI. I ordered a Baja Shrimp taco and a Pollo Verde taco and this were quite tasty. The freshness of ingredients and subtlety of flavor comes through with the tacos. I really like the Baja Shrimp taco! I really appreciated the pricing, supremely good tacos for $4, heck yah. read more

Well, not sure how this Reastaurant has the rating it has? Back Story its my wife's 50th, thought I'd try something different yet spicy. So I thought, Hmmm? Sorely disappointed! 1st service very sub par, waited forever to get 2nd drink, and a refresh on just our water. 2nd, food was bland, pulled pork was dry as the Sahara!, the Queso appetizer i have had better at Applebee's. 3rd I notified them it was my Wifes Birthday and waiter has been to our table , as often as an absent father. My wife never got a refresher drink. And we just got our bill. Waiter is about as excited or energetic to serve people as a sloth climbing a tree in the rain forest. Atmosphere ambiance is okay if you're looking to sit by up tight , suburbanites, who prefer bland uninspiring "Mexican" cuisine. Sorry to say not impressed! read more

So,, yea,, Bakersfield. Such a nice and trendy spot. Open concept, shiny polyurathane heavy picnic tables everywhere. A massive bar, LED Edison lightbulbs and industrial ceiling. Also giant garage door windows so if your sitting by the window it feels like a massive patio. Plus they also have an actialt patio area if you were wondering. We came for the drinks. They had the cucumber margarita on special that day. We like glasses, but we preferred it come in a pitcher that day. The drink was also super yummy and outrageously delish. It's such a shame we just came from a big meal event next door or we'd be all over their offerings. Hopefully next time we'll try em because I'm definitely coming back. We stopped in before the Mumford and Sons concert. This place was packed! We lucked out and finally got seats at the bar. There was a very nice selection of alcohol, and a full menu. We split the chorizo queso dip - so flipping good! They pickled their peppers which did a wonderful job cutting the richness of the queso and chorizo. My friend ordered a 1/2 salad (not pictured) that was (to me) larger than your typical 1/2 salad. The tacos were AMAZING! Both of our favorite was the shrimp - they were huge & with the garnishes had great flavor. The pork one I ordered was also full of flavor and delish. Pricing was reasonable. A winner. Among the best I've had in the region. - Al Pastor: Yes! Finally! So far, the only good version I've found of this classic here in the area. I'd say it's a must order. Oddly, what dragged these tacos down for me was the choice of the corn tortillas. They were a bit too stiff, and their flavor was so pronounced that the shells overwhelmed the fillings. Typically in this type of situation, one can simply remove one of the two tortillas and just eat them gingerly to avoid the potential failure of the taco's structural integrity. However, my tortillas somehow fused together which made the operation impossible. What does that mean? Well, in future visits I am going to be looking for other ways to make the carnitas and al pastor shine! Maybe it's in a quesadilla. Perhaps a torta? Or could it even be atop a plate of Botanas? The mind boggles. But I'm looking forward to the journey and giving El Rey that fifth star when I find it. Oh, one last thing. The horchata is tooth achingly sweet. Next time I'll try another aqua fresca in the hopes it might be better.
