Most of the desserts here are huge, and while that may be good for sharing between several people, I find them to be a bit too large for just one or two persons especially if you want to try several desserts. My husband and I got the coconut tart and by mistake we also got the creme brulee (we really intended to get the durian cake but the person who was refilling the desserts was erroneously placing creme brulee where the durian cake was supposed to go and we just grabbed one without paying attention). The coconut tart was good, with a crumbly texture and in terms of flavor it reminded me of the Portuguese egg tart but with a hint of coconut. The creme brulee was also ok, very light and since it didn't have the caramelized sugar layer, it was not overtly sweet. I had an terrible experience with this shop's woman boss when I ordered and picked up a cake for my mother in law's 90th birthday. The cake is not cheap it cost $50+. They only gave me 8 candles, but I need 9. When I asked for one more small candle which I have every right to do so, she blankly refused me and she was arrogant and mean. She asked me to pay for a new pack of 8 candles. She had grossed me out. The store is in business of selling birthday cakes and they should prepare for extra lousy candles and the necessities. I haven't seen a shop so short-sighted and greedy just to make a few cents. Although they had make a few cents from me this time and I will never want to come back to this store again. I love this place. To be completely honest the first time that I went, I wasn't thrilled with the flavors of the pastries that I got, but then again I did get Flavors that I wasn't really accustomed to. I've gone two other times and both times I've only gotten pastries but I am falling more and more in love with the bakery. I love the pork floss breads and there is a blueberry and cheese bun that I found very delicious. The next time I go I promise myself to try the hot food. The set up is pretty easy to follow, grab a tray, put a wax sheet on top, use a tongs and make your way through the isle of buns and pick away all the freshly baked buns. Great selection, large portion, reasonable price. They have a variety of baked goods from taro buns, egg tarts, sponge cakes and many other sweets good. I must say the Japanese cheese cake is pretty yummy. Another must try here. Seriously though, they have so much choices here, you will find something good to eat. However, the check out process is slow even with 2 cashier, they use a small bag that fit about 2 buns, if you have multiple items, that's gonna take awhile. So happy to find it close by! (Yelp sent me a notification!) I went there the next day with excitement. It's as precious as I remember an Asian bakery should be, the beauty and the delicacy. I bought few to try, I love the angel pond cake the best(though I had few pieces of egg shell). There are beautiful cakes, Japanese style cheese cakes, traditional Chinese cakes, cookies, egg tarts, and savory buns. You can find something for everyone. The only thing I was a bit disappointed, was the "Egg yolk cake". They were packaged very nicely, but the flavor isn't the traditional "red bean"(紅豆或豆沙) but more the "lotus"(蓮蓉). Finally had a chance to come try this place out. First trip I assumed since it was a bakery they would have items out fresh in the morning so I came around 9:30am. Was disappointed to see barely anything set out. Most was prob leftovers. When asked if they Would be setting out more was told they were being baked atm. So I only picked up a few items and left. 2nd trip decided to come later in the day and the selection was much better. Me and my fiancé started going here when they first opened and it is well worth the drive from Ruskin Florida. Alway love the cakes! They had a great selection of pastries that look almost too good to eat. I couldn't believe how cheap their product was for how big the pastry was. This location has more options than the Gainesville store. I think the buns are still a bit overpriced. The atmosphere is really clean and cute, and the food is solid too. There's a lot of tables for sitting. I got the roast duck over rice and it was okay. Had a bit too much fat/too oily, but was still good for the price point. On my daughter's 16th birthday, we ordered a birthday cake, we requested the Japanese cheesecake, we paid over $60.00 for this rather small cake. Picked it up placed it in the refrigerator before the party, come to find out it was frozen still and it was not the cheesecake at all. Customer service was off putting. I noticed the place going to the bank and thought, wow, I never noticed this place. Initially when I walked in it looked great, however, I noticed that customers were just wandering around and no one was up front. I saw a woman in the back, and eventually to she came to the front to answer a question and put more baked goods out. She took a very long time to get to the register even though she saw me, and others standing there. The other customers walked out. Located near the University of South Florida's Tampa Campus, this is an absolute must stop to check out Sweet Buns. The Bakery is a self service clean concept with glass display cases and shelves. While your eyes are soaking up the visual effect, the delicious smell of sugar, yeast and cheese will begin to waft up your nostrils ;) This is when you loose control and just begin gently grabbing basically every pastry in sight! SB's offers entrees, desserts, nibbles, custards, fruits and everything yummy and scrumptious. SB's offers pre-packaged items for snack time later.
