It was our first time at Bakery Express. The facility is much larger than I had expected and it's tucked in an industrial complex. I wouldn't have known this was even here if we weren't invited to tag along from another family at our church. It seems quite a few parishioners of St. Augustine come here after Mass. I was surprised to see that the Raspberry and Cherry turnovers are safe for our allergies (milk and soy) and the Ciabatta is also safe. Bakeries usually have a lot of milk in them! My daughter got the chicken tenders kids meal and I think she liked it although she didn't eat much. I got the egg salad sandwich meal on ciabatta, it was okay, but kind of small, and although I got it with the fixings and salt and pepper, it could have used some more salt and maybe even some mustard or paprika. It was very bland. My husband got the chipotle roast beef panini which he said was alright but also small and was not a panini. He said the bread it was on is more of a French bread than a ciabatta. There is a counter to order breakfast and lunch, a Coca-cola fountain machine and brewed coffee. You can get your meal to go or dine in and marvel at the many, many dessert cases. For desserts for a crowd they have lots of freezers with whole cakes in them like Smith Island cake. This is totally where I am going the next time I need a pecan pie, tiramisu or other fancy dessert. This is the bakery to come to for everything from donuts to custom cakes. I am a long-time customer. I used to enjoy this place even more back in the days when it was Miss desserts on Rolling Road. Not that there's anything wrong with this location, its just they had a couple of different items then thats not available at this location such as their "Cheesequakes" (Toffee crunch was my favorite.) and they had a large selection of imperfect items that they would sell at a quarter of the normal price. I would gladly buy a cake with slightly smudged icing or that was slightly lopsided for five bucks on the cake would normally sell for $20 or a whole pan of brownies for only a couple of dollars. OMG! I am addicted to their donuts!!! They are commercial bakery that resells to other businesses on the east coast. They sell fresh based cookies, pastries, and donuts that are amazing ( Way better than Dunkins). I love the chocolate peanut butter iced donut, the peanut butter and jelly donut, and the Boston crème the best. I'm a BIG fan of the cannoli's too. You walk in and smell fresh baked goods. I've been going to this bakery since it was Mrs. Desserts. They do have wonderful desserts. We moved from the area 7 years ago, but when we come to Baltimore, I always like to stop. Today, I wanted a few slices of the different cakes they sell. My first request was the key lime, the slice that was staring at me. This bakery is about a 2 minute drive from my office and not only is it a bakery it's a warehouse. They actually are connected to each other and the only problem this presents is that when I take my mid day strolls you can smell the sugar in the air. I stopped at this little gem of a place yesterday as I was waiting for the unreliable, can't-stick-to-their-own-schedule MARC train. Since I had some time to kill before my train came, I decided to drive around instead of sitting in my car at the station like a stalker. During my drive, I came here. The selection for their donuts are plentiful and not only that, it's reasonably priced too. They also offer other delectable delights like brownies, lemon bars, speciality croissants, etc. which is at a decent cost too. They also make sandwiches so you are free to have them to go or eat in the cafe. There is plenty of seating and it's really clean and inviting. The staff is very friendly and they have packaged goods that you can purchase in case you don't want to wait in line, not that it will be an issue since there is always someone at the registers to assist. I was so happy with this place that I even tipped the cashier because she was THAT nice. I can't wait to visit again. The next time, I will dine in. Service: This was my first time having bakery express. I ordered over the phone over the past week, calling in was pretty easy, I just let them know my order and they got it ready for me! I came in yesterday to pick up my cake and although it was an order that had been in a week prior to picking it up when I received it I overheard the employees saying something about frozen..? So instead of letting me know, I had to ask them if it was frozen. They gave it to me to which they replied yes... Then I had to ask if I needed to thaw it out, which one employee said thawing it out would be an hour to an hour and a half. Another said I could eat it frozen. Didn't really get a clear answer till I called later and another employee said I was supposed to thaw it (haha and not eat it frozen) out which I did. This cake was for my husband's birthday party, which luckily for me was not starting for two hours, but if the timing was any different this would be a huge inconvenience, and the fact that the employees didn't even warn me, much less really acknowledge the situation just rubbed me the wrong way. Presentation & Quality: WOW!! The cake was BEAUTIFULLY pre-sliced, decorated, and DELICIOUS!! They put an edible banner on TOP of the slices for the Happy Birthday sign and it looked great!
