We've used this bakery a couple of times for birthday cakes and they were absolutely amazing and I'll will probably return for their chocolate cake. Thats why I'm giving them 3 stars ....BUT recently I order a cake for my SIL babyshower and boy what a disappointment. I got a half sheet cake with Bavarian cream and fresh strawberries. I told the woman I wanted blue icing since it was for Its a boy babyshower....she said yeah no problem. She even suggested that I put flowers on the cake so it will be prettier. The day the cake got pick up a day before the shower since the store is close on Sundays and the shower was on a Sunday I paid $107 dollars for a cake that was barely decorated. It had six Yellow flowers and Yellow writing !! I had to run to shop rite all the way in Lodi nj since we were at Stony hill in Hackensack. What an inconvenience. I had to buy flowers any blue crystal sprinkles in order to fix the cake. After the cake was cut and the waitstaff handed it to us. It was more disappointing. There was barely and strawberries. The only good thing was the cake was really moist. I was told by my MIL and SIL and multiple guest in the party I would had gotten a better cake at shop rite lol read more

The cupcakes were absolutely delicious, can't take that away from them! However: 1. The selection was very slim. About 10 cupcakes total in the display case. 2. There is virtually no parking. 3. It's overpriced. On the order of $3.50 for a small cupcake. 4. Which I wouldn't mind so much if they were fresh, but once or twice they've been disappointing- either a couple days old, or frozen. 5. I've written 3 emails asking for their hours and no one has returned my message. I have no idea what their hours are. If you're ordering a cake in advance, I'm sure it'll be delish. But if you're looking to stop by for a snack, stick to Crumbs. read more

I heard a lot of great things on Yelp about Just Desserts so I ordered a cake from this bakery for my birthday and I am so glad I did! I got their popular chocolate silk cake & hands down, it was one of the best cakes I've eaten. The cake itself is nice and moist and the frosting is not overly sweet. Everyone at my party was raving about the cake and a few people wanted to take some home, so overall it was a hit. Ordering from the bakery was incredibly easy as well. It took me 1 minute to order it and when I went to the bakery to pick it up, everyone was super nice and helpful. In the bakery they sell cupcakes as well as dog treats and candles - I'll definitely be back to see what other goodies they have. While I was picking up my cake, I ended up getting a red velvet cupcake to split with my fiancé and we both devoured it. It was probably one of the best red velvets I've ever had. The frosting was so light and satisfying and the cake itself wasn't dense and heavy like other cupcakes I've tried. You have not lived until you have tried the Coconut Cake. It is surprising light, no too sweet and absolutely delicious. I brought it to someone's house recently and it was the first to go at a table FILLED with other cakes and desserts. People were talking about it and running over to get a slice before it was gone. I ordered a German chocolate cake for my birthday.. That's not what I got. I got a chocolate cake with chocolate icing and coconut filling between the layers only. When I called to complain ($37.00) for a cake I wasn't happy with, they said that's the way we make it. I said that should have been stated when it was ordered so they said the owner would call me back. That was two months ago-I'm still waiting. I would never order from here again. I selected Baking Grace to make my son's Christening cake. I had explained what I wanted which was a basic two tiered cake with minimal designs on the outside and no lettering. The inside was white cake and chocolate mousse on one layer and chocolate cake and white buttercream on the other layer. Cake was big enough to feed 50 people. I had sent the picture to the baker ( 10 days before the party- which was what the owner instructed me to do) and never heard anything. When I picked up the cake the cost was $175 plus tax which made it $187. I thought the price was quite outrageous for a basic cake with minimal design. There was unfinished line work on the design as well as crooked lines which could not be seen from a far but up close. When we tasted the cake, wer were somewhat unimpressed. The chocolate cake was very moist and tasty but the buttercream filling was super thick ( over 1 inch) and tasted like straight butter. The white cake was not as moist but the chocolate mousse filling was better. The cake did look pretty but the taste was just average for the price. read more

My adult daughter requested that I get her birthday cake from Just Desserts this year. Let me say, even knowing Lafayette Ave, I passed it 3 times before I found it tucked at the end of the driveway. My thoughts were "this cake better be good for all the trouble trying to find the place." It's not a huge bakery, and they only had a few cakes in the case along with several different kinds of cupcakes. I ordered the chocolate mousse cake with whipped cream. They made it more like a regular layer cake for me as I wanted them to write on it instead of having a cookie crumb topping. Her birthday was on a Sunday, when they're closed, so I had to get it the day before and keep it in the fridge. The cake was decorated beautifully, with 3 fresh chrysanthemum blooms on top. I have to say, it was worth the trip! The chocolate cake was dense and moist, the mousse filling was a true mousse - not too sweet. The whipped cream icing was the perfect touch. Usually everyone wants "just a sliver" of cake. Everyone wanted seconds. My daughter had the red velvet cake at an earlier date, which is why she wanted to use them, and absolutely loved it. I've visited Just Desserts three times now and while I certainly can't knock their product, I'm underwhelmed in a few ways. First, the selection is always slim, which I imagine is an inevitable result of being a small business, but I'd prefer a place with a bit more to choose from. Each time I've visited there has been maybe 6 different kind of cupcakes, three or four of each. Not very much. Second, it's expensive- $3.50 for a small cupcake is just high. It'd be worth it if it were guaranteed fresh, but I'm certain that the ones I bought today had been frozen, and I'm sort of appalled to have paid $3.50 for a cupcake that wasn't fresh. Lastly, I hate that they have literally no parking and, as they haven't responded to an e-mail sent more than 48 hours ago inquiring as to their hours, I don't know when they're open. Probably a good bet for a cake ordered in advance, but for an everyday shop to grab something sweet, I'm sticking to Crumbs. read more
