The dairy free, gluten free Irish soda was fresh out of the oven and did not disappoint. I tried a gf/df coconut cupcake that was delicious. The Italian bread I bought frozen, then thawed. This place is overrated. Items don't have visible price. Lady behind the counter is very unhappy. When we made a comment about pricey cookies, she said "gluten free is expensive". We paid $28 for 4 cookies and left. Ate 2 of those on our way home, nothing special (besides the price). Will not visit this bakery anymore. Not recommended. read more

Swung by this gluten-free gem after it's been on my to visit list forever. I was super excited to check out what kind of gf goodies they offered, especially after seeing some great reviews. The store is practicing proper safety measures for COVID, so I felt safe while browsing. There was a nice selection of baked goods available, so there was plenty to choose from. The only downside while browsing is that nothing is labeled, there's nothing to clearly indicate what the item is or how much it costs. I had to inquire about any item I was interested in, which is a bit cumbersome while trying to make selections and minimize time spent in shops. Though all of the bread they had was vegan, they only had one vegan pastry available, but something is better than nothing. They did also have a few dairy free options in the case. I opted for two of the vegan pastries as treats for others and a Linzer torte and lemon bar for myself. The torte and bar were both delicious, the torte was especially impressive. Let me just say, Isaura Bakery is the real deal. Ever since developing a gluten intolerance, baked goods just were not appealing because they were always missing something. However, this is just not the case with Isaura. Upon walking into the bakery, I was immediately impressed with the atmosphere and friendliness of the staff. I was given a visual tour of all that the bakery has to offer between the gluten free doughs and bagels to the macaroons and assorted cookies. Isaura also has dairy free options with many of their gluten free baked goods which is amazing. I had a sample of their cinnamon sugar donuts and had to bring one home for myself and my fiancé. We both were totally in love with it, he even said it was much better than other regular donuts he's eaten. I also ordered a small vanilla gluten free cake with chocolate dairy free frosting for my engagement party and it was AMAZING. Many people in my family who are not gluten free really enjoyed it. The consistency of the cake was perfect and the frosting was so delicious, more delicious than I ever thought a dairy-free frosting could be! Very good gluten free bakery in Hawthorne! I ordered the Oreo cookie, chocolate Bundt cake, a chocolate chip cookie, and chocolate cupcake. I'd say the Oreo cookie and chocolate cupcake was my favorite. The cupcake and Oreo both had a vanilla like frosting which I didn't love but it wasn't too bad. I wasn't a big fan of the double chocolate cookie because I didn't taste a lot of the chocolate. The texture of the cookies was great though. My husband and I loved the Oreo cookie. I also sample some breads and they were yummy. Next time I'll be back for some freshly baked sourdough bread. The prices were fair. The service was very good. I think I have to give the cupcakes another try. I'm happy the cakes were moist versus dry like other GF cakes I've tried. read more

i tried isaura bakery for the first time in 8 years! i was super excited to try. i found that the linzer tart was masterfully done as well as the dairy free coffee cake that cinnamon was spectacular. the least successful for me was the chocolate cookies sandwiches with some icing it was pretty dry. read more

This bakery is a brand new addition to Hawthorne. Absolutely immaculate with a very knowledgable owner. Illy coffee was perfect. We sampled a brownie fresh out of the oven and a gingersnap cookie. In a million years, I wouldn't guess these were gluten free. Some of the offerings are inspired by the owner's Brazillian roots: guava cheesecake, yuca coconut cake and passion fruit layer cake just to name a few. Even though I tolerate gluten, I will definitely be coming back time and time again to this sweet shop. **They are the only certified gluten-free bakery in all of Bergen & Passaic counties. I've been searching for gluten free bakeries every chance I get lately, and happened to find this place while in the area. I wanted to give it a fair shake, and purchased a variety of goodies - the crack bar (blondie), cinnamon sugar donut, brownie, coconut bar, linzer cookies, everything bagels, a pizza crust, and dinner rolls. The linzer cookies are the best I've ever had, gluten-free or not. Perfectly crisp and just the right amount of sweetness. Seriously still thinking about them the day after. The coconut bar, brownie, and blondie were tasty and made well, though I felt they were extremely sweet - and this is coming from someone who's got no problem eating a whole pan of brownies in a sitting :) If sugar rush sweet is your thing, try them out. The cinnamon sugar donut was tasty with great consistency, but had a strange aftertaste I couldn't put my finger on. That being said, I still enjoyed it. The bread products were the real reason I stopped in, as finding good gluten free bread seems impossible. I've gotta say, the dinner rolls are delicious. Great crumb, perfect density, rich flavor, toasts well. They are quite yeasty in taste, but I happen to like that. I've yet to try the bagels and pizza crust, but am looking forward to them. Customer service was excellent. The woman helping me was kind and informative. The goods are definitely pricey. Around $11/12 for 4 rolls/bagels. The pizza crust was $8.75. Having not asked for pricing before hand, I don't think I'd buy the crust again, as you can purchase a pretty yummy pre-made gluten free pizza for less in the supermarket. I feel the price of the rolls is justified based on the fact that good rolls are very hard to find. Even though all the sweet treats weren't my cup of tea, I'm giving this place 5 stars because the quality and accuracy of the bakes were excellent, the customer service was great, and I'm just stoked in general this dedicated gluten-free bakery exists! read more

I don't provide reviews for a lot of places, but this bakery deserves one. Let me start by saying WOW! I needed a cake last minute, so I called Isaura to see how far in advance I typically have to call to get a cake order. To my surprise they said "we can have something ready by early afternoon". I was shocked! Most places require days in advance orders especially for specialty items. I ordered a lemon cake with vanilla buttercream for my husband's (who has a gluten & dairy allergy) birthday and the cake is out of this world. It's moist and the buttercream is sooo yummy! You would never even know it's a specialty cake. Also while we were there we picked up a coffee cake (and a bunch of other goodies from the freezer, which we are looking forward to trying) and again WOW! Must try. To top it all off. I just traveled over an hour round trip to try a few items for the first time. I purchased one cupcake, one Oreo type cookie, one donut one marble chocolate chip and one pizza crust. I tried all the deserts when I got home. My only regret is you will be closed for vacation and I cannot obtain any more Oreo type cookies until you return. As a side note, you have yourself a wonderful employee. She pleasantly explained everything and was very helpful. Update: Breads and buns are salty. The dough is too salty. Will not purchase again. Isaura's Bakery is great! My Husband has celiac disease we have purchased desserts from here several times and he has never had a reaction. They are pricey, but they are the only fully gluten free bakery around this area so We pay alot more for the piece of mind that there was zero chance of cross-contamination as opposed to regular Bakeries that also make gluten free desserts. Their crack pie is to die for. I have never been disappointed in anything i've tried from them. But you will pay almost $50 for a dozen cupcakes. If you have celiac disease or gluten sensitivities this is your safest choice. read more

Such an amazing place!! After having celiac for 10 years I've found a place that carries great tasting GF food. My husband keeps surprising me with such delicious treats- I don't think I will fit through the doors soon :p I highly recommend the pizza, cinnamon buns, crack bars. Took a shot today looking specifically for Irish soda bread and hit the jackpot. Not only did they have fresh, still warm soda breads, I also picked up carrot cake, crumb cake and cookies. This bakery is all gluten free therefore cross contamination is not even a small concern. The owner was as nice as could be and so helpful. She even said she could make a birthday cake today for me if I needed it. I got enough other goodies that I didn't even need a cake but just the fact that she was so accommodating and pleasant was a breath of fresh air. She offered samples of the Irish soda bread and crack bars. Both were delicious! They will take orders and make just about anything you ask within reason. This is the best gluten free bakery I have ever been to! I can't eat gluten or dairy. The people who work here are the nicest! Always giving samples & being so kind with explaining what is safe for me allergy wise. The bread taste like real bread! It freezes great. The frozen bagels & pizza crust are also delicious! Their challah, donuts & baked goods are the best! Some items could be a little pricey but it is worth every penny! They bake certain things fresh on different days so I would call before you go to see what they have fresh that day. I would practically drive here from Maryland JUST for the cinnamon crumb cake -- it was so flavorful and so moist that one would NEVER guess it to be gluten-free. Oh come on people, don't be mean to IB; they're new! Let me just point out, you find either a Gordon Ramsay or a Martha Stewart at the classy bakeries, and most of them are probably a Gordon Ramsay. But here, there is the sweetest lady who works here and is the best, and most nice person I saw at a bakery! My husband got a birthday cake for me from this bakery and it was so good! Even my son said it was delicious, who is not gluten free and loves his cake. It was chocolate cake with strawberries and a ganache frosting. The owner went out of her way to have it for him on the night of my birthday that she came home from a wedding to finish the cake and stayed open for him to pick it up! IB is as good as it gets. What a find. Better than ANY gluten free bakery in the tri-state area. Yes, even those in NYC! Fresh, HIGH QUALITY ingredients. No skimping on flavor - or texture. For those who follow GF, you will often find dry bakery products. Not here. All the items are moist, delicious and flavorful. It is an indulgence and well worth the price. I recently moved from upstate NY, where I could get the most incredible gluten free bread - it was dark, contained no rice flour, and was great toasted and not. I have been on a quest to find something comparable here in NJ. I read these reviews and decided to give Isaura a try. As another reviewer noted, there was not a lot out on display from which to choose, it all felt sparce. But when I started asking questions, I learned that there is more in back, kept frozen. I purchased a loaf of the bread which the owner assured me had very little rice flour and a lot of millet which would make it seem like a hearty high grain bread. It was quite white, so I was skeptical but I bought it anyway. I also bought the crumb cake which was recommended by the clerk who was there, she said it was fantastic. I bought a couple of Portuguese rolls and a loaf of the pound cake. I purposefully did not buy any brownies or cookies, etc. I find it's easy to find tasty sweets that are gluten free - the high dose of sugar and chocolate make up for the lack of texture and flavor in many gluten free baked goods. My verdict - the rolls reminded me of corn bread. I had one warmed in the oven with butter. Meh. I toasted the other - it became dry and brittle. The bread similarly reminded me of corn bread, same texture etc. I tried toasting it, which helped but I wasn't that impressed. I've been spoiled by the bread I was having before I moved here. The crumb cake was dry - this was the first thing I ate. It fell apart when I cut it - the top half split from the bottom, because of the dryness. The flavor was ok. The pound cake was the best of everything I tried. It still had a little of that corn bread feel to it, but because it was loaded with butter it wasn't so dry and actually tasted like pound cake. Bottom line, probably their desserts are really good. But I'm still on a quest for local gluten free bread. read more

I stopped by the other day to sample some things when I was in the area. The bakery is on the smaller side, and they don't have the biggest selection of baked goods; only a couple of things on display. I'm not sure if I came at the wrong time or if that is their usual setup, but there were minimal items to choose from. I did see that they make smoothies, and serve coffee, which is a nice addition. I purchased two brownies, a cookie, a slice of pound cake, and got a cup of coffee to go. My total was about ~$18, so it is definitely on the expensive side. Perhaps they justify their prices because they are a specialty bakery (gluten-free). After trying everything, I will say the quality is nice and everything tasted fresh. I would pass on the coffee though, as it was pretty basic, but pricey. read more
