5/9/25 - I paid $6.30 as a base price for their Hojicha latte. The boba is not included and is an extra $0.75. The drink is made with whole milk and usually I would substitute it for oat milk. However, for an extra $0.50, the cost of the drink starts to approach $8 which I don't think should be the standard for boba drinks even if you are substituting for non-dairy options. The staff working that day could see that we were standing there trying to get their attention, but did not do anything. I'd much rather order at the register, but after seeing that I wouldn't be helped, I decided to use the kiosk. They do have a rewards program through Toast. This place is a bit far from where I'm located, so if I was in the area and craving hojicha I would come here but otherwise I would not go out of my way. read more

We had just finished up at the mall and was craving for a sweet treat, on our quest to try out new spots until we find our 1- Bako Tea House was our stop. As anticipated with any stopover around this mall, traffic, crowds and parking are all anticipated and bothersome, especially on the weekend. Our cheat code is to order online and just do a roll by pick up. Drinks were ready in less than 10 minutes, no line out the door, and the barista was friendly. Doing a quick pop-in, the interior is sleek. With samples of tea out of display, Bako looks very minimalist and tea focused. Which they do well. Lemon Wintermelon - ($5.50) - My drink! I opted for 50% sweet with less ice, and at first sip- still too sweet. Maybe I will need to either add in ice or ask if they'll do any less sweet, but on the online ordering this was the lowest choice. Tea was overall good, but my asian tastebuds needed a bit of water mixed in to really enjoy. Lychee Greentea - ($6.55) - Lychee Jelly added for .75 - Hubby is usually the type for sweets, but even for this drink at his choice of 75% - was still too sweet. A bit of a trend maybe? Not sure if it was just our drink choices or not, but I'm undecided. Decor and tea were average and i'd be open to try their other teas to see if over sweetness is just their thing. read more

Popped in to grab drinks while in the area. The plaza it's in is pretty popular but we came during a non busy time so there was enough parking and no line. I got the sesame frappe and my husband got the lychee oolong tea. The frappe was pretty nice for a hot day and I enjoyed the nutty flavor. The lychee oolong was good and we were glad we followed the recommendation of 75% sugar. The tea was flavorful with no bitter aftertaste. I've been to the Bako in Santa Ana and wanted to see if my review would change based on my second experience but it didn't. I really wanted to like Bako but their tea lattes fell short. I love that they have an option to choose tea heavy or milk heavy but it never made a difference. Just like some other reviewers have mentioned, their tea flavor in their tea lattes taste super watered down. I enjoy my boba with heavier tea based tea flavor so this just didn't cut it for me. It's almost like the tea they brewed doesn't have enough tea leaves to steep and bring out the flavor. I will say that I got their amber oolong tea and I actually really enjoyed that one! I think if I come back, I'll have to just stick to regular tea. read more

New Boba Shop in Cerritos! Definitely a contender on my top 5 boba shops, however you have to know what you like! If you like a stronger tea taste the oolong has a n amazing tea taste that's strong and vibrant. We also got the Ceylon black tea which is a little less heavy on the tea taste but still delicious. After trying their first location and being really impressed with the quality, I had high hopes, even during their soft opening, and I can say that in an area over-saturated with boba tea shops, Bako is raising the bar here. I had their roasted oolong with oat milk at 75% sweetness and it was one of the best I've had. Ingredient wise, it's great because of the quality and freshness of the tea, easily noted by their proud display of loose tea leaves, and the oat milk, which they offer organic minor figures for just 50 cents more. I saw they use Straus for milk which is a great brand too. The first sip was mostly oolong and was highly concentrated. I had to work extra hard to mix it thoroughly with the oat milk and once it was mixed, it had an amazing texture and balance of sweetness and roasted flavor mixed with a pronounced florality. It's everything you'd want for this drink. Also tried the lemon wintermelon at 50% sugar (minimum) with the wife and she and I were impressed with the citrus used, and the soft and sweet concentration of tea, garnished with a large slice of lemon. On a second visit, I had the earl grey latte at 75%, which is probably how I'd keep it because I don't like it tasting like a dessert. It had strong bergamot notes and a sweet vanilla finish, and the boba was a great texture with the roght amount of density and sweetness. The peachy oolong is definitely worthy and has a good amount of peach fruit to be sustained with every sip. The place is very minimalistic but offers a warm environment to order your drink, but not necessarily to hang out. Personally I have no issues with that because the plaza already has scarce parking during popular hours. There are only a couple of tables currently, but it's nice and reminiscent of something like a Japanese specialty tea shop. The menu is expansive but not overwhelming, and ordering at the counter is easy with self-service or in-person. read more

Bako tea has been tasty every time I have gone and this is the first time I got it with no sweetness. I got the golden barely milk tea (0% sugar with purple rice), it was something I only noticed on the menu when I ordered on the screen. I enjoyed it as I'm shifting away from sweetness levels. This place aims for a more minimalist ambiance, which creates a chill and gentle environment. Since we ordered on the screen, we didn't get to actually talk to workers (which might be good if you like a minimalist environment and service that reduces social interaction. Glad to see them opening another location. There isn't a lot of seating but is very spacious. I ordered for pickup and my drinks were ready when I got there. The staff were friendly as well. I got the Ceylon Black Tea Lattes at 75% sweet and I'm a fan. I like that they give you the option to make the drinks tea heavy or milk heavy because I generally prefer to taste the tea over the milk and not all places will make their drinks that way. I ask for the sealed lids which work better than expected but don't expect it to be 100% effective. Overall I quite like their drinks and will continue to go back when I'm in the area. read more

Drink 4/5: Ordered the phoenix tea latte with half purple rice and half boba 75% sweet with no ice. The milk tea itself was great; they allow for adjustments to be tea heavy or milk heavy which is something I haven't seen before. I think what threw me off was the purple rice which I probably wouldn't choose again in the future; it's a topping you don't see everywhere though and worth a try if it interests you. The ambiance of this place is super soothing as if you just entered a spa. I knew this shop just opened so I decided to give it a try. I had gotten the phoenix oolong milk latte with 75% sugar with grass jelly. Super watery, with plain boiled red beans that had zero flavor and the skins just stuck in your mouth. I have no idea how this place has so many 5-star reviews. I come here often when I'm in town visiting family. I've been 3 times this summer alone when I was in OC for 2 weeks. I always order the Earl Grey Tea Latte with oats. It's sooo delicious and one of my favorite drinks in the area. I love the options and altering they offer- ice, dairy, sweetness, toppings and if you want your drink to be tea heavy. They seem to have good quality teas. They had a 4th of July promotion recently (I came in on the 4th). You get a free drink when you post a photo of your drink and tag the shop in your story. The promotion ended on July 8, which was also the date you could get your free drink. My sister and I were leaving town on the 8th very earl so we asked if we could get our free drink earlier than July 8. Unfortunately they said no, so we didn't end up doing the promotion or posting. It would've been nice of them to be flexible. Regardless, it's still a great place for tea drinks and worth trying. read more

There are so many of this kind of tea houses/cafe, it's hard to stand out but this one claims to be using real tea leaves for its tea products, thus, more authentic flavors. Would you like some tea with your milk? We tried the Roasted Oolong Loose Leaf Tea Latte and once we mixed it up, it was so light you could barely tell it was milk tea. It looked like someone finished most of a green tea and poured milk up to the rim. Luckily, it was 30% off. Milk is expensive these days so we paid $4.40 or so for 16 oz of milk. Super modern and simple ambiance inside this mainly to go store. There are 2 tables 4-6 seats and a bench. There's in person and tablet ordering. Tea leaves for smelling and description of flavor notes. Staff was nice. I loved the packaging and the fact that the to go bag was slightly insulated to keep your drinks just a teensy bit more cold or hot. Was super glad to try the place out and that they offer lots of roasted profiles which are my faaaaave! Barley is the first I found and black sesame along w/ hojicha are sometimes hard to find. Quick warning! The "seal" on the drinks are just a piece of paper film that is sandwiched between the cup and lid, so it's not leakproof like typical boba places where they heat-seal a plastic film onto the cup. Just be aware! Tried the Ceremonial-Grade Matcha Milk Frappe and Creamy Sesame Milk Frappe. The matcha was definitely more creamy tasting than matcha flavored, but okay. No bitterness, so good quality matcha. The sesame flavor came across much better. Pretty solid drinks, would be interested in trying the other offerings. read more
