First time having banana pudding matcha, truly enjoyed every last sip--absolutely memorable (seasonal drink so get it while you can) service was lovely, the young gal behind the counter was very sweet and attentive. It was nice to watch the team make the drinks; everything was so neat and intentional. The tables are fairly low but sitting at the bar top was nice, I could stand up when needed. I really appreciated the outlets available. I do agree the music is on the louder side. I spent about 5 hours here working on assignments, uninterrupted, it was really lovely. The place is really nice, but I wouldn't recommend it if you want to study since the music tends to be a little louder, so if you need somewhere quiet this is not the place (which I dont mind, I liked the music) The double matcha was *cheff kiss*, so good! Mate Coffee Bar is such a nice spot. The inside was spacious, clean, and cozy. I loved the big tables, which make it a great place to study or just hang out. I tried the Matcha Einspanner, and hubby got the Earl Grey Matcha. We really enjoyed both drinks! The matchas were delicious, smooth, and creamy. The strawberry adds a nice freshness, and the cream + meringue give it that dessert-like finish without feeling too heavy. The space was pretty full when I stopped by, mostly people working on laptops or catching up with friends. Good mix of energy without being too loud -- definitely a spot you can post up at for a bit. Staff is always welcoming, very helpful, and friendly -- which honestly makes a big difference. Service was smooth and quick, even with the crowd. Would I get it again? I came here to do some work for a few hours and it was just ok as a work space. There's plenty of space / it wasnt too busy mid-day on Tuesday, and there's outlets available. Wifi was ok, a bit slow but I was able to join a meeting with my camera off. But the tables are all bizarre heights - either way too low or too high to be ergonomically comfortable. Majority of tables are really low so you'd be hunched over, the one large shared high table puts your arms at a weird angle. Drink wise: they have some interesting sounding drinks on the menu. Just got a cold brew einspanner this time and it was pretty good. Barista was nice and brought it out to my table. Prices were ok too, maybe $1 lower than some other places. read more

I found this place by merely casually when I was heading to a store. I came to have my coffee and ordered the honey coffee latte, there's not much variety as I wish they have. I like the flavor , but I would preferred more hot. The everything croissant was good had cream cheese inside already but I didn't know. As a recommendation always ask if it has something inside , you might be lactose intolerant. Also chairs are small , something different but is cool. I checked out this cafe about two months ago because I needed a place to get some work done. The location is convenient, there's plenty of parking, and it's close by, which is what initially drew me in. The cafe itself was fairly empty, with just a few people studying. The ambiance is nice, and the interior is clean, bright, and minimalist. I ordered a matcha latte, and unfortunately it wasn't very good. It tasted overly milky with very little matcha flavor, so I personally wouldn't order it again. However, I don't know about their other drinks. One thing that really stood out was the furniture. There are plenty of seats, but the chairs and tables are unusually low, almost the same height. It was really uncomfortable to work because I couldn't even fit my legs under the table. I ended up moving to their one regular height dining table, which was much better. This might have been to deter people from working at the cafe... If you're planning to study or work for a while, this is something to keep in mind. I believe they had outlets! Overall, the atmosphere and location are nice, but between the disappointing matcha and the uncomfortable seating, I'm not very motivated to come back at the moment. I might give them another try in the future, but it probably won't be anytime soon. read more

The Drinks: 1. Wimbledon Melon Latte - melon milk with espresso. Not for me, but only because I now realize I REALLY don't like the taste of melon. I always knew I disliked the taste of cantaloupe but I never put two and two together that melon includes fruits like cantaloupe, and that melon milk would taste like a liquid version of cantaloupe. That was completely my fault, and my aversion to the drink is entirely due to my own preferences. 2. Mate Latte - toffee with a cream top. I love toffee lattes but I wasn't a fan of this one because the flavor tasted overly artificial. Since I love exploring and café hopping, I was excited to find this nice coffee shop not far from Cerritos. This cafe is pretty cozy, and the customer service here was great. You can tell the staff really knows what they're doing, and they also have a nice variety of options, which makes it easy to find something you'll enjoy. Rachel was especially helpful and did an amazing job with my ceremonial matcha. The taste, texture, and balance were absolutely perfect. I'm so glad I found another gem in the area. Their signature coffee is the Mate Coffee, it's a toffee cream top latte with crushed Biscoff cookies. Thoughts: I want to love it but I don't. It's just okay. The bitterness from the toffee syrup and the shots of espresso doesn't give me the coffee latte flavor I love like at other coffee shops. It doesn't taste smooth. It's sharp bitterness that can't be covered. FYI, this coffee shop just opened like yesterday so, I'll give it some time for this coffee shop to perfect their cream top lattes. PSA because a new café just opened up in LA County and it's too good not to share Mate Coffee in Hawaiian Gardens is officially my new spot. The inside is super spacious but still cozy, with plenty of seating, WiFi, and free parking (a win already). I tried the hojicha latte with the hojicha cream top AND the Wimbledon melon latte -- both were so good and crafted with so much care. The flavors are unique but balanced, and they paired perfectly with the pastries. You can really tell they put intention into everything they serve. They also offer afternoon tea sets with snacks and teas, which is such a cute touch if you're trying to chill, study, or catch up with a friend. And if you're reading this in time, save the date because tomorrow (Friday, Dec 5) is their grand opening with BOGO specials all day Hawaiian Gardens finally has a café worth gatekeeping... but I won't. Ended up mistakenly drinking from the non dairy , and I did like it - no sugar or other sweetener needed! Whole Beans for sale by the 10 ounce bag, sourced Kenyan coffee. Okay, the coffee here is very good indeed. I tried their Mate Latte in iced form which is the second one I've gotten from them and I highly recommend it. It's a sweet latte with the components used to make it and I enjoyed it to the last drop I could slurp up. My coworker also got the iced Mate latte and the London Fog Einspanner with the Hoji cream. From what he told me it was quite delicious and from reviews it seems to be a popular drink. The location of this coffee shop is one that I'm not too sure about. Nothing dangerous or anything like that, I just think it might not be the best spot to get incoming traffic unless you know about them (or find them on Yelp ). Once you find them the interior is very nice. Has a cool, low key set up and it felt very comfortable to me. I can't say enough about the staff. They are very friendly, knowledgeable and will to help with questions. Plus, plus all around. There's lots of seating, and during my visits I see a lot of people working/studying or elderly people just hanging out (which is a good sign!) Service is always friendly and the drinks come out quick. You can order drinks for here (in a glass) or to go in a plastic cup. I especially love that they hand whisk each matcha or hojicha drink, but my favorite of all time is the London Fog Einspanner, which is earl grey tea, milk, and hojicha cream top.
