I had this place bookmarked for so long, not sure why I never made it in until today! After dinner, my friend and I were looking for dessert options nearby and he mentioned Cafe 86 had a delicious "cupcake thing". Then I remembered I've been wanting to try this place, so we decided to grab our post meal sweets here. We ordered 2 flan cupcakes, 1 crack cheesecake and 1 regular upside down halo halo. Everything was so good. I devoured the halo halo and the cupcake. I will need to eat the cheesecake tomorrow, but based on how good the other two were, I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy the cheesecake just as much. I've visited this place before, and I'm always impressed by their consistency! My go-to order is the ube muffin topped with flan, paired with a large original Halo Halo on the side. We arrived around 12:50 PM, and luckily, they had just opened at 12:30 PM. Upon entering, we were warmly greeted by an employee, and it was nice to have the place to ourselves for a couple of minutes until more customers arrived. First time visiting Cafe 86 with family for dessert! It's a tiny Cafe serving Filipino flavored desserts, coffee, teas, smoothies, and sandwiches. On a Sunday afternoon post lunch, there were just a few customers present. Our party of 5 was fortunate to get seats together. The turon pop tart caught my attention but I decided on something familiar which was a scoop of ube ice cream. Smooth, creamy and delicious! Fam members that got the same thing agreed. My cousin did get the turon pop tart but thought it's just okay. The gal at the counter that took our order was pleasant. There are brick walls and some Star Wars decor. The disability parking spaces were not close by in the plaza and already occupied. We managed okay parking in a regular spot that was next to a delivery/pickup spot that was clear. As far as regular parking spots, there were many on a Sunday afternoon. The plaza has a Market, a bakery, a restaurant, and shops nearby. I found out there is actually another Cafe 86 closer to me. I have posted reviews for the other locations in Chino and Tustin, I really love this place. Cafe 86 specializes in Ube, and they do it exceptionally well. The vibrant purple color is just as appealing as the taste. If you're looking for unique and delicious Filipino-inspired treats, especially those featuring ube, this is definitely the spot to check out. My faves are the Ube Butter Bar, Ube Truffle and Ube Leche Flan Cupcake. I've also tried and recommend the Ube Latte for those who prefer no caffeine. It was a perfect day to try their signature Halo Halo and it did not disappoint. I even love the frosted flakes in it (instead of pinipig) and all the ingredients that came with it. I've been coming to this location for years. Parking is always tight as they share it with multiple businesses but I just love coming to support Cafe 86 and the Luisa and Son's bakery next door. Everyone is usually really friendly here but the drinks are always on point and you're able to make modifications. Ube everything pastries are located here. The pastries actually taste like the ube it claims in their titles haha. Their ube leche flan cupcakes are one of their most popular- but my personal top two favorites are the ube butter bar, ube truffles and the ube cheesecake. I have yet to give their pop tarts a try. They also have a few non ube treats like Milo (chocolate) cupcake and a mais (corn) bar. Their halo halo upside down is one of my favorites on a hot summer day and if I have a sweet tooth on a particular day I will ask to top it with ube ice cream for an ube overload haha. They have two tables that are a four top- and two stool tables against the windows that hold three people. Two additional couches on the side for casual catch up or solo dates. Seating is tight here so I can't necessarily say it's a good study spot but I'd say it's an option since they do have wifi. We literally order the same thing each time, which is pretty much one a week-an ube crinkle (hubby's fave), ube truffle (my fave), and the ube monster shake (BOMB, we both love)! I love this bakery. I notice that some locations carry different pastries. I love their spinach pastry but at this location in is Kale. Both are good. Service is always quick and I always get more pastries to bring home than I had planned for because they are so beautifully displayed. Along with it I had tried for the first time ever a Mais con Yelp. It's a corn based dessert which was not too sweet but had a more simple flavor. I'd still take the regular halo halo any day but it was a nice and interesting first time experience. The flan in the halo halo was really good and over all had a good consistency. It's more of a milkshake with toppings than halo halo since it's missing some authentic ingredients like the palm seeds, saba bananas, beans and ube halaya. The best thing about this Cafe 86 location, is that they're pretty frendly, fast and they have the $2 refresher and cooler drink promos every so often. The menus are on the wall, and you order your drinks at the register right in front of it. Pickup is nice and easy where they call your number from the other side of the counter. It's nice that they have indoor seating so that people can enjoy their drinks when those seats are available, although it can get very crowded, and you may end up just trying to stay out of people's way. I wasn't a big fan of the Hibiscus drink but the strawberry and dragonfruit iced teas were sweet and tasty. Lots of options to choose from though, and they must be good, as evidenced by the amount of people that were flowing in and out. The worst thing about this location is the parking. The entire lot needs to be restriped and spaces need to be widened. and some of the partitions need to go. I can almost guarantee that you will not be parked in a single spot correctly, and it's just as perilous pulling out of a spot, no matter what part of the parking lot you think you're safe at, considering the amount of businesses in that plaza. The spaces feel like they were all painted for compact smart cars, not the standard sedans, minivans or suvs that are out and about. read more

Cafe 86 is a homey Filipino bakery with a modern twist. I was looking for a dessert after eating dinner in the same plaza, and had heard great thing about the Cafe. I ordered a halo halo and an ube pop tart to go. The halo halo had plenty of traditional and more modern toppings. My mom wished they included beans and corn in the halo halo, but I preferred the plentiful amount of jellies and boba. My favorite topping was the flan - it was the perfect texture and had a rich caramel flavor. The ube pop tart was AMAZING! I'll admit, I was a bit spooked to try the baked goods in their display case due to other past Yelp reviews; plus, display case baked goods have a tendency to be stale/old and underwhelming. However, my pop tart had a thick ube filling that wasn't overly sweet. I did toast the pop tart in my own toaster, which probably elevated the ube flavor (plus it left such a warm ube aroma). Cafe 86 would be a great place to study or do group work. There's outlets, but only a few tables so it would be best to come early to reserve a group table. read more

This store is a winner for all ube lovers: I come here whenever I'm craving an upside down Halo Halo! I have never seen it anywhere else and I even got one of my friends addicted to this drink. I have been here so many times. Their other drinks are not bad, but I just come for Halo Halo now. In addition to the drinks, they also have unique desserts. The ube flan cupcakes are the popular choice among my friends, but I'm always slightly tempted to try the other desserts too. I came during the 11/11 promotion, and fruit teas were $2 each. The hibiscus calamansi tea was light and refreshing and the ube crinkle cookies were not too sweet (always a compliment from an asian).
