I have been in pain for 2 years and finally was referred to Dr. Eng. who was a complete inappropriate person. I have still been waiting for a call IF DR. The first two lasted approximately 9 to 10 months. Still on the third, Treatment takes about 20-30 Minutes per side and are relatively painless. A little burn. I have been receiving pain management treatment from Dr. Charlu for nearly 2 years. Initially for diagnostic medial branch block procedures to determine the exact nerves causing my neck pain. Boy, was I scared about having an epidural for my spinal stenosis- I met with Dr Charlu and yes, he did spend a great deal of time looking at the MRI results on the computer vs making eye contact with me (in retrospect, I would much rather have had him do that)! And then I was told I would be having two epidurals. The time came yesterday, and I was doing deep breaths going in, but Dr Charlu being so friendly talked to me the whole time and I felt little tapping on my back that's it- when I asked him how much longer, he said, "I just finished the first one", then laughed and said, "All done". I absolutely could not believe it! If you are all hesitant or questioning your choice with Dr Charlu-go for it! I did not get to see Dr. Charlu because he's very busy but I hear he's a fantastic doctor. Because I had just been in an accident and needed to get in immediately, I was scheduled to see the P.A., Lindsey, who is pleasant, yet impatient and onto the next patient quickly. I asked for a Tele-Doc appt. so I could get a further MRI on my neck and I never received a call back on the date I scheduled it for. I have now gone to a different orthopedic in Newport and found out that I have a major herniated disc in my neck, which is exactly why I was reaching out to Lindsey for on a Tele-Doc visit to get a second MRI. I never received the Tele-Doc call and when I called the office they said there were notes that she said I should get P.T. and epidurals without even discussing it with me or the results of my MRI personally, which I just picked up from the receptionist. I'm really disappointed with the care and treatment I got from Lindsey and, like I said, I didn't get to see Dr. Charlu, so I would suggest waiting the time to see him if you can or else seek out a different orthopedic - I won't mention names, but I found the best one in NP Beach after my visit with them. I couldn't be happier with the outcome of my knee. I have lived with pain for many years. Dr Safman and Naomi set me up with a trial procedure that numb the nerves in my knee. Those worked, so I was the n passed to Dr Charlu for a more serious procedure where he burned the nerves in my knee. I have a very high tolerance for pain, and he made sure I was comfortable. He talked with me to distract me from what he was doing. I had very little pain during the procedure and was able to walk out of the office on my own. I did great he said he would work on my knees anytime. I am thankful that I was able to find doctors who fixed my problem instead of wanting to hand me pills. I would recommend Dr. Charlu and his associates to anyone with pain. They find a fix and walk you through it. He kept in touch for over a week while I healed. read more

I had an image guided cortisone shot into my hip done by doctor Charlu. He was arrogant and angry that he had to find Marcaine because I'm allergic to lidocaine injections.. I didn't know what medication he was going to use to numb the area before injecting the cortisone. No one told me. Then Dr. Charlu chewed me out for not wearing a medical ID bracelet that said I was allergic to Lidocaine. He was ticked off because I made him 5 minutes off his schedule, while he found some Marcaine. The man is very disrespectful to women and the elderly. I am an 81year old female with very good insurance so that wasn"t the problem. and I have never been treated so poorly by any doctor. I am saddened that Newport Orthopedic had to hire such a poor quality MD. I will probably not get my hip replaced at Newport Orthopedic Hospital if this is the quality of staff I can expect to work with. read more

I was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease in 2015 and my GP sent me to Balaji Charlu who was supposed to be an expert in Back, Spine & Neck. MRI showed a 9 mm herniated disc (lumbar) that was unfortunately symptomatic and was causing pain, discomfort, and sciatica in my left leg. Although I was referred to a physician, a physician assistant met me (I paid for a specialist visit who was supposed to be an MD) who seemed unsure of himself and lacked confidence. He started panicking and sweating while rushing me into the idea of having a spine surgery, and as he said it I'm too young to have such an issue and if I want to walk again (I walked to their office unassisted) I have to have a surgery and it needs to be done promptly. He proceeded to schedule me for a spine surgery, which I refused and asked him to leave the room and go get Balaji Charlu. Balaji Charlu walk in 20-30 minutes later and who is supposed to be a Medical Doctor. I explain the situation to him and ask him if there are any other ways to heal my back and he responded by saying, "No there is no other way, your back cannot heal and pain will not go away and it will get worse". I asked him how about physical therapy and spine's ability to stabilize an injured disc? He responded by unbelievably saying that is not an exact science and it will not solve the issue. I refused to get a surgery and told him to send me to physical therapy, which I went to and without spine surgery or any sort of injection I am now back pain FREE, healthy, am able to do everything I used to before my back problems started and couldn't have been happier. Balaji Charlu and his PA are the worst "Medical" professionals you can find. Please do yourself a favor and avoid his services at all cost. He seems to be on the payroll by Vimovo drug brand as he kept trying to market and push it which caused severe rash all over my body. Balaji doesn't listen to anyone, and is too busy hearing his own voice that he completely misses any concerns a patient might have. You cannot get a word in when he starts talking. Malpractice doesn't always have to result in fatality, this experience has caused me great mental anguish to a point that I've been thinking about it since my visit on 4/30/2015.
