Redemption!!! I love when I get to go back to a two star review and add an extra three stars. I hadn't been here in a while, I think the key is ordering the food and eating it there. When I DoorDash or pick up to go, it's not the same. I had some great bubble tea out of the shop, and some brussels sprouts that were damn near transcendental. I love when I can get Asian fusion tacos. It's two of my favorite things altogether Asian flavors and delicious tacos. The service is fast! I think that comes from the kiosks. We were out an about running errands and on our way home we decided to grab a bite to eat. It was close to 9pm and neither one of us wanted to prepare a meal that late. We have been curious about Balance Pan-Asian Grille for some time and that is why we pulled into the parking lot to give it a go. As I had mentioned it was close to 9pm when we walked into Balance. There were a few employees standing around what appeared to be ordering stations. We were very nicely greeted with "hello, thank you for stopping in to Balance!". As we were looking at the menu for a couple minutes trying to decide what to order, another employee came out of the back and said, "sorry we are closed and no longer serving customers". We were somewhat taken back by this statement, especially by the greeting we received when we just walked in less than 2 minutes prior. Why didn't someone tell us they were closing/closed when we walked in? Why did the employees allow us to stand there reviewing the menu the tell us they were closed? For some reason, I thought this place would be similar to the Chipotle and Subway setups where you come in and supervise what you want for your meal. When I walked into Balance Pan-Asian Grille, no one greeted me and I figured out that I would need to use one of three kiosks to order my meal. I had never been there before and started scrolling through the options of bowls, tacos and so forth. To be honest, it was an isolating experience. I wanted to ask questions about the possible menu choices but the staff members were doing their own thing behind the counter and seemed oblivious that I was even there, though I would think they would jump to action if I had ordered something on the kiosk. I never got that far, however. I decided that the environment was too impersonal for my taste and walked out without ordering anything. No staff member stopped me on my way out to see if they could help. I left feeling like no staff member cared that I came in and likewise didn't care that I walked out. I was there during an off-time for lunch- around 3pm- so the place wasn't busy at all. Can't obviously speak to their food and was disappointed by my experience given that there were many positive reviews about the food. While some businesses have taken the Pandemic as an opportunity to offer poor excuses for bad customer service and product quality, Balance seems to have doubled down on perfecting their curb side pickup orders. The Balance app is a breeze to use, ordering on your phone either on the way to the restaurant or waiting in the parking lot. The food comes out fast, fresh, perfectly packed and really really tasty. I appreciate that over the years they've continued to tweak the menu and now have keto and other diet specific options. I loved my steak keto bowl I had today for lunch and was reminded of Balance's attention to details as I enjoyed the micro-greens grown in their Downtown Toledo indoor farm. Highly recommended for quick and healthy to-go that is as hyper local and focused as you could get for asian food in NW Ohio. Thumbs way up! read more

I've been hearing some great things about this place from friends and finally had the opportunity to check it out! First off, I thought I'd be able to go in and order but it seems like roadside pickup is all they are offering. You can call in your order or order thru the app which is super user friendly and has some great opportunities to get points towards a reward. I ended up getting a budda bowl which comes with chickpea, red onion, tomato, cilantro, and sprouts (i substituted broccoli and red peppers for cilantro and sprouts and added tofu). The budda sauce definitely has a kick to it! If you like spicy then i would definitely recommend this sauce! The bowl was filled to the brim and was definitely way too much for me to finish in one sitting so ended up having leftovers for dinner. The budda sauce has so much flavoring that even though the tofu and chickpeas were rather bland, it balanced out. I also ended up getting the original milk tea which was pretty good! I usually don't like my boba teas super sweet so i asked to go light on the sweetness and it was perfect. The boba could be a little softer and chewier, I felt like they were a tad undercooked. But overall pretty decent option. Unfortunately wasn't able to see the inside but they have plenty of spots for you to pick up your order curbside. You arrive, pull into a spot, and just text the number on the board that you're there answer a few questions and give your order number and they'll bring your order out to you. Ordering thru the app was also super easy and you could modify any of the bowls or create your own. Good selection for vegetarian and gluten free! I have been going here for YEARS. Originally I had to drive to Maumee, and I love that one is in Sylvania now. I go here when I want something healthy with flavor. The wontons are def not healthy, full of fried cheesy-goodness, but damn I love them. I usually get something with noodles and chicken, and I love that the sauce comes on the side so I can reduce my sodium and just add a little. The bowls are always delicious. Bubble Tea is always solid, the new pricing is strange. I like to mix my bubble flavors and you are unable to do that without adding extra for $1.50. Pretty unreasonable if you ask me. I don't want extra, just a mix. I feel like this place has lost its heart. Nickel and dime'n people is not the way. Charging for sweeteners in the tea? Come on. The food use to be fantastic and plentiful, but since Covid the protein portions are abysmal. You essentially get a bunch of rice very little hearty greens and veggies and a bunch of sprouts. I would rate Balance 5 stars but they got rid of the curry cashews...Not cool!! That was my favorite garnish for my almost daily bowl. I am going to hold that 5th star hostage until you get the curry cashews back Balance!!! I am not messing around here, this is serious!! I eat balance probably 3 or 4 times a week....I'm super healthy. I don't care if you have to charge $5 to add curry cashews onto my bowl. I'll pay it...I will even double my cashews every order...$10 in cashews. Of course, I am not going to eat all those cashews in one sitting. I will take the extra cashews and hide them away just in case you remove them from the menu again. I will have a stock pile of curry cashews like a squirrel preparing for winter. Balance is a good, but not perfect. I don't always eat healthily, but when I do, I appreciate having lots of tasty options. Balance is definitely one of those options. Contrary to what some of the other reviewers stated, there ARE healthy things on the menu, and there are lots of them. Of course, not everything on the menu is going to be healthy, but if you are going "high pro, low fat, low carb," or any combo thereof, there are tons of options. Balance offers a nice variety of flavors too. I really like the BangBang sauce...it's just spicy enough. Their version of chutney is also pretty good...cool and minty! Thai Guy is pretty decent, too. I'm not sure why my family is so nuts about bubble tea, but we are. The first bubble teas made at Balance were not so hot...in fact, some were pretty friggin' awful. But I'll tell you, in the last year or so, they've really stepped up their game. Because now, they have some really great (and unique) flavors. One of them, made with rosewater, reminds me a little of faloodeh. DOWNSIDE: Balance is pretty expensive. I paid 4 bucks for a sirloin slider that was literally (about) one cubic inch in size. OK, OK, it might have been 1.5 x 1.5 x 1.5 inches. (Believe me, when I ordered it, I had no idea it would be so small). When I unwrapped it... "WTF? Ok, Ha Ha, really funny.....So, uh, where's the rest of it? Really? Seriously? LOL!" It tasted fine, but for 4 dollars?? Again, I guess you're paying for local sourcing and a somewhat organic approach. This location and the Maumee location are pretty equivalent, in my opinion. Balance used to be such a great meal! Small portions but the flavors were unbelievable and they were conscious with their packaging ( less plastics). Well we returned for the first time since covid and it has sadly went down hill. I got a bowl which was basically just all rice. My protein was chicken and I counted 5 little pieces of chicken in the whole bowl. I always get a side of bang bang sauce to add to my bowl, $2 for a one ounce side of sauce. 50cents or maybe $1 at the most, but $2 that's just crazy! We got bubble tea, you can tell they put less flavoring into the tea than before. Sad to see they also went to using a ton of plastic compared to what they used prior to covid. For the price you're paying, $50 for two people at a quick service restaurant is just crazy. If they gave you good portions and flavorful food then maybe, but for what you get here I would pass. Have been to this location several times, and the downtown spot as well. This place is surprising - not only what they serve, but the fact that they are in Toledo at all (and doing well!). No disrespect to Toledo, but I wouldn't have imagined that a pan-asian/asian fusion menu would be very well received in the land of chili dogs. Now before anyone gets all cranky for my comments, I happen to love chili dogs (and I think Toledo's are among the best), AND Asian food. Having grown up there, my experience began with (and was limited to) the downtown Chop Suey places (yuck) which made my discovery of (the much more tasty and diverse) Boston and New Yorks' respective Chinatowns all that more profound. Having lived in California for most of my adult life (and being a two time NYC resident and 1x Bostonian), I've certainly had a lot of (usually excellent) Asian food on both coasts - Vietnamese has become the new "normal" in that regard, but so much more. Add dim sum, Thai, and Taiwanese beef noodles, (and a ton of others...), California and NYC is an Asian foodie paradise. BUT, Balance does really compete quite nicely with the coastal offerings. At a fraction of the price. Well done kudos to Balance, but also to the Toledoans who support it. I do make it a point to visit while in town, and it's been great every time. I was in the mood for boba tea after my run, and Balance was close by and had decent google reviews. I saw on the menu that they had taro tea and a variety of freezes but for some reason, none of that was on the printed menus or the menus on the screen in the place. The lady taking my to go order even acknowledged how weird that was so I don't really understand. I ordered the trio of tacos, the creamy wontons, and a taro milk tea. The food came out decently quickly so no complaints there. The milk tea was the best that I've had in Toledo but by no means does that mean it's a good milk tea. The taro was quite sweet and very powdery as evidenced by the film leftover. The boba was so tough and was like chewing rubber. Flavor of the tea itself wasn't bad but it's not even close to boba tea in Houston, Cali, NYC, etc. The creamy wontons are better at a Chinese takeout because the shell will be crispier there. The tacos were ok - I liked the sauces but the meat was quite tough and overcooked and the flour tortilla was a sad excuse of a tortilla. Clearly not fresh made and not even heated. The more I come here, the more I'm loving it! I got the Korean BBQ tacos (comes in twos per order) that were very tasty even though I felt like the kimchi was slightly bland--the beef marinade makes up for it so they went well together! This location is a crap shoot on whether you'll get your bowl the way you ordered it. Also, the portion sizes are inconsistent. Sometimes you get a good amount of veggies and other times it looks sad and sparse. I've had multiple orders that were wrong, and by the time I get back to the office I don't care to walk all the way back or to try and make them aware. I ordered no protein, extra veggies and it came with chicken on it. Today I ordered the Filipino adobowl sauce and it tastes like sweet n sour. Unless they changed the recipe completely I'm pretty sure I got the wrong sauce with the right lid label. Not sure why it's just this location that I always have issues at. read more

So I've been working in Toledo for about 7 months now and my boss gets take out from here almost every day. Basically I've been seeing this takeout and smelling it for months and I FINALLY tried it out with my other coworkers for lunch today. It might be my new favorite lunch spot, especially for something reasonably healthy. We opted for ordering online and picking up, which was ridiculously easy and convenient. We ordered lunch for 8 people and it was ready on time and bagged with our names on the counter. I ordered the teriyaki bowl with chicken and brown rice, a peach bubble tea, and also got the kale salad and citrus Brussels sprouts to share. There wasn't a single thing I didn't enjoy about my meal. It travels well for anyone who has to do take out like us, and they use eco friendly containers which I appreciate as well. I've never been a big bubble tea fan...until now. The peach was really good, not overly sweet and quenched my thirst perfectly. Everyone enjoyed their meals (even those who aren't so into healthier dining) and I would say there's no doubt I'll be back and definitely will be trying other dishes as well. So good!!! read more
