My boyfriend and I were flying standby and after not being able to get on the last 2-3 flights we decided it was time to grab a bite to eat. I ordered a couple pizzas from Wolfgang Puck next door, and was told I had to pay for them at this Balducci's which was next door. So I walked on over, grabbed a little fruit salad and some drinks, while I was at it, and headed to the register to pay. The place is pretty clean, but they are very overpriced. So be prepared to shell out the money. Not to mention that the employee at the register was rude, and just rushed everyone through. Well, at least now I know ... and I am never going back here again. This is where I usually get breakfast to take on the plane when I'm at the airport. They have the usual breakfast items such as bagels, egg & cheese muffins and such. They carry my favorite brand of yogurt Chobani, and they also carry pre-packaged salads and fruits. I don't really care for the bagels. Quite bready, rather than the dense things I'm accustomed. I'm giving it 3.5 stars 'cause really like this place, and usually stop there before I catch my flight. read more

I WISH THERE WERE A BALDUCCI'S IN EVERY AIRPORT IN THE U.S.A. Why? Better than great sandwiches- probably the best food and sandwiches I've had in a domestic American airport other than Newark, ATLanta and ORD/Chicago. Not crazy about the breakfast sandwiches but all other food I've had taste better than any togo food in any airport. They have a range of non-sandwich, organic, non-meat, non-dairy alternatives in their food cases. Customer Service I don't know about the customer service issues other Yelpers written about here. I've visited this Balduccis at JFK a few times now and I've not been met with rudeness. I don't know what the bad reviews are all about, maybe they got rid of the bad blood, I dunno. The staff I agree can be better trained on what's offered here. The cashiers tend to be more friendly and informative. What to Get So get the italian sandwiches, like the italian panini with authentic salumi with real Italian cheese. Get this, they also have food that are non-GMO, a nice macro selection, japanese noodles, chinese options, salads, fruit. They also have vegan Indian food bento style (ask for it heated). I bought the macro veggie wontons (im not macrobiotic but love it when it's avail), super nice with a variety of nicely chopped veggies and a wasabi kick to the filling that made me smile every bite. It was a huge portion. For the plane, got the Italian Panini and asked for it heated. The sandwich was really really delish with prosciutto, tomatoes, basil and soft mozza on an Italian style baguette. Wish Everytime I think of Balducci's I think "better than airline food" so during the times I don't get upgraded for free, I bring on food from here. I ate at Balducci's twice during my recent trip to Iceland. The first time was in what I think was Terminal 3 (the dumpy place for International Flights) and the second might have been Terminal 2 (Delta Domestic). My Terminal 3 experience was one of desperation as it was mid-evening (late by JFK standards) and most everything else was closed. The made-to-order counter was closed and I got what I got out of the slim residual selection. Then it was over to the relatively messy and dirty common dining room area. In hindsight, I should have waited as my Delta flight to Reykjavik ended up serving 2 free meals and plenty of wine to wash it down. Over at Terminal 2 (I think), I was on my way home and I knew Delta Domestic would charge me a lot for relatively little. Plus all I really wanted to do on the flight was sleep. This time around, the counter was open and the Tuna Melt was actually pretty good. I could have done without the airport pricing and the NY attitude, but as a frequent traveler, I've learned to roll with it. read more

Meh. Quick spot to grab and go a sandwich or pre-packaged salad before heading off on a flight. I ran in here to try and find something relatively healthy and most of their sandwiches were coated in mayonnaise, and the salads were of the fatty variety. I did end up finding a grilled chicken mango salad that came with a low fat dressing which was passable. They also carry a selection of chobani yogurts, snacks, bagels, fruits, etc. If you have an extra few minutes you can get a fresh sandwich made to your liking and they will bring it to you while waiting on line to pay. Not the cheapest place either, as everything seems jacked up at airports. Oh yeah, make sure you do have extra time before boarding, as the cashier people work in two speeds - slow and "I want to punch you in the face if you make me miss my flight". I just barely made mine because of waiting forever for the cashier to take payments and make change or run credit cards on the few people ahead of me. Breakfast: They have pre-made sandwiches available. They're neither great nor bad, but chockfull of averageness. You have eggs with either bacon or sausages on bagels or the usual bagel and cream-cheese options. Lunch/Dinner: You have more Sandwiches to choose from. All of the same aforementioned pre-made variety. I'd recommend the Italian Panini, Club, or Santa Fe. But, keep in mind the Santa Fe is messy to eat. Like "sloppy joe" dirty. But who doesn't like a little dirty in their life! ;) Snacks and Apps: Throughout Balducci's you have various snacks and Appetizers that you can buy. Cold foods like curry potato salad, or baked gourmet chips. Beverages: You'll find the usual assortment of sodas, iced-teas, and fad health drinks here. You'll also find some nice old-fashioned colas and root beers (bottled in the classic 60's form too!). All in all, things like price, consistent variety, and occasional slow service keep me from giving this a higher score. On the plus side (as my tip echoes), Balducci's is one of be better options to eat from at Terminal 7. But that's like telling someone to choose the best place to eat from a sea of underachievers. I would have most of lunch from here on my lunch break. They have a really great variety for an airport restaurant. Delicious fresh salads and fruits. My favorite thing here was the chicken noodle soup. Its piping hot at the soup station, next to new England clam chowder and a beef veg soup. It was so heavenly and filed with chunks of chicken and real veggies. The coffee is self serve and gets you on your feet in no time . They have lots of sandwiches with one of my favorite items, (avacado) in most of them. Prices are decent enough for an airport. I worked the morning shift when so food arrives fresh so i couldn't comment on their service during the night. read more

Everything looks great! Selection of hot and cold sandwiches, salads, beverages. One of the healthier selections in terminal 2. Had a bit of a dilemma when deciding what I wanted: tomato, mozzarella and pesto with soggy bread or salami and provolone with proper baguette bread? Soggy bread just didn't look appealing, so I opted for the salami and provolone. The bread won me over. Too bad the sandwich didn't. Greeeeeasy salami. Sure, it's not America's number one healthiest foods... but very greasy. If it's your thing, then you'll love it. If not, opt for one of the hot sandwiches or salads. read more

Say what you will about airport food, and about JFK (I've said plenty, negative, about both) but by the dim standards of airport food, Balducci's is pretty good! Yes, the service is slow, but I got a surprisingly tasty and not overly unhealthy sandwich for under ten dollars (though I added a pricey bottle of water and piece of fruit). Add Balducci's airport location to the growing list of restaurants that shouldn't be that special, but are good enough for their price point that it is irritating how rare they are. read more

Not wanting McDonalds or Wolfgang Puck this morning, I figured Balducci's would be a middle ground kind of place between the two and a quick fix. Savory breakfast croissant, sweet and chewy black and white cookie but an unmemorable experience besides that. Their sandwich and salad creations were pretty standard compared to other joints and service was lacking with the employees immersed more in their own conversation then *ahem* doing their job. I thought this would be a good option for food for the flight back to Vegas. It was just ok. The croutons in my husband's caesar salad were disgusting. My spring mix salad was ok. The chocolate cupcake I got was pretty good. I think they will make things to order but the staff looked annoyed that I was even there so I didn't bother. Pre..made...sandwiches. Let's go with a cubano, you can't screw that up, ri--oh nevermind I was wrong. Even while oven toasted, the bread is far from fresh. Yes you get that nice crunch on the outside layer, but it's kind of like that throughout the bread. There wasn't that much meat in comparison to the bread that was available. I kind of was looking for that subtle overtone of sweetness that usually comes from the ham, but that wasn't there at all. So picture this. I have a 6am flight to catch and I'm not a morning person. I finally make it through the chaotic security checkpoint--of course the conveyor belt stops working in the line I choose (because it was shortest at the time)--and all I want is some coffee! I get into the terminal... survey the area... check my watch... I have 15 minutes until boarding time. Plenty. I see a Starbucks... excellent! Closed. "Well, when do you open?" I ask. "We're closed! No time!" What? What does that even mean? I spot Balducci's with opening the gates. 10 minutes until boarding time. The gate opens, it's chaos. Balducci's is the only thing open because Starbucks and McDonald's have staff that hasn't shown up or registers that aren't working. Everybody runs in, including me. I grab some cantaloupe and order a breakfast sandwich that I can nibble on during my six hour flight to San Francisco. For some reason the 10 people behind me in line get their food first while my lonely little sandwich sits all by its lonesome off to the side waiting to be toasted. 5 minutes until boarding time. Come on lady! I decide to get some coffee while I wait. Finally, breakfast sandwich is ready to go. I have my fruit and coffee and head for the line up. It's boarding time. Ehh, they'll wait for me. Well, it's training day at the register and the new girl doesn' t know wtf is going on. It takes her a good 2 minutes to ring each customer through. 5 minutes past boarding time. There's 10 people in front of me. 2 more people go through. 4 people butt in line stating they have a six o'clock flight to catch. So do I! Then I hear it: This is a final boarding call for United Flight 5 to San Francisco. I have no choice. I have to abandon my food and coffee and leave... hungry and decaffeinated. Expensive, but hey, it's airport food. The green salad with balsamic dressing was OK, there was a good selection of bottled waters, juices, and sodas. There was a variety of sandwiches that were premade sitting in the cooler which I didn't sample but a lot of people were buying them. Additionally, there were larger items to be bought - desserts, trays, etc. OK, not great, but I probably felt better on my cross country flight than eating McDonald's beforehand. I am a lover of ANA and United, and thus I end up in JFK's Terminal 7 a lot. I was there last week and to my surprise, they had revamped the food court and introduced a Balducci's deli corner there. Apparently other terminals have it as well. It is a pleasant surprise to have more options @ JFK besides McDonald's... Balducci's offers a variety of sandwiches and bagels, as well as snacks and drinks. It looks a lot better than the stuff in the BA lounge too! read more

Terrible customer service. So unbelievably rude for no reason. Avoid the lady named shantina at all costs. I walked up to the counter an the lady before me was asking her where the breakfast foods were. She responded by ignoring her and walking away to the back room mumbling loudly "she asked me something already, this lady is so annoying and I can't even understand her anyways." I should have walked away then. I'm next. She's still in the back. She finally comes out and I ask her how much the chicken salad is. She turns and points to the menu and says its on the menu read it. I walked away. I let her know that her abrasive attitude was unnecessary and cost this place my business. What's the point of ordering sandwiches if they cannot be heated up? Every sandwich we wanted to eat could not be heated up. We SETTLED on english muffin sandwich with egg and bacon, and we also ordered a salmon and cream cheese sandwich on a hard bagel. Luckily I had Tabasco sauce packets in my purse to put on my sandwich for flavor. Service was mediocre. Next time we will definitely choose a better place for lunch. You could probably be served quicker in big McDonald's queue next to it @T7. I stood the only person at the counter and was ignored by 3 staff racking up sandwiches. So I figured I may have to pay first.. nope the staff are just lazy, and was told to go back to the counter and the cashier managed to get their attention for me. Then other customers gathered around me, obviously as confused as me at what is usually a simple process.. The guy next to me (a fellow brit) also just wanted a sandwich.. still no one behind the counter took notice, they just kept loading the sandwiches up. How the Monica Lewinsky they expect to sell em is beyond me. So I did the right thing "hey! You got more customers here" amongst the chaos of T7 I was not heard, then one of them looked from loading sandwiches and said pointing "she's mumble mumble", which I took to mean the girl staring at my order waiting for it to cook... Obviously this is a one in one out service system. So a sandwich juice and a chocolate bar cost 16$. Which I think is a disgrace. The sandwich was better than a big Mac and fries.. but probably would have been cheaper and happier having it. Of course the food in the airport is overly expensive anyway but I was expecting the food to be a little more tasty than what I got...my $6 ranch veggie dip was the best thing I got. Typical airport prices but better than average airport food. The soups are all pretty good; the Italian wedding and the chicken noodle are actually quite tasty. The pre-made sandwiches are also good. I prefer the ones that can be heated; the Cuban is my favorite with ham, pork, swiss cheese and pickles. Grabbed sandwiches here while on a layover from Rome back to SF because Starbucks was way overpriced compared to the Bay and frankly there weren't too many other choices close to our gate. Got a roast beef sandwich. It was alright, but didn't make up for the rude and unhelpful people at the counter. So I want a sandwich and you don't want to make it? How's that ever going to work? Either way you're going to have to make it.... The cashiers weren't much better, more interested in talking to each other than getting you and your lunch/dinner on your way.
