Before Dawn car selfie in need of a wash!
Dawn S.

I used to live near this place so I could walk which was nice. They do not take appointments so be prepared to wait during certain hours. I just went for a wash and blow dry. My sweet stylist, Silas, was nice. I could tell that she was fairly new to working with clients. They take classes for about 8 weeks before coming into the floor. She told me she started in January. You do the math. (It's March) ;) I really wanted someone to wash my hair. I mean who doesn't love that! One of the things I have always liked about this place was that there are instructors all around. I saw three of them that day. Many of the girls were new and the instructors came out to teach and actually step in to show them a technique. An instructor will always come to check your hair before you leave so don't worry! Just for a reference, my wash and blow dry was 10 bucks!! They take tips but cash only!! I felt horrible as I only had 2 dollars to give my girl. The instructor made me feel just fine about it. She told me I didn't even need to leave a tip. The girls just love having the experience on the floor. So be prepared to bring cash if you would like to leave a tip. $$$

Jess did my hair, she did so good! She knew her stuff and was super friendly. The atmosphere was awesome in the building! I love love my hair :)

Absolutely loved my haircut as much as the work on it Jonathan's work is beautiful and excellent customer service they were able to get me in even that I was late because I ended up at the wrong location , the manager was also super nice and it was just overall finally a great experience in a salon and most importantly I got what I wanted in my hair

I swore I would never go to another beauty school but today I decided to go to Baldwin. The instructors were professional and knowledgeable. Doing hair isn't easy, color correcting is even harder. I came in w a huge challenge for Amy amd Haley. This is a school they are learning and growing everyday and today they really did an amazing job on my hair. I really wish them the best when they graduate they are off on a good start. I couldnt be happier.

This is their website today. Make sure you ask before getting a service.

The student that did my hair was great, but I unknowingly walked into a $65 hair color session. Prices online are not accurate.

I have had balayages and cuts here and honestly it's not much different than getting it done at a regular salon.

I lay down and basically the student put on the perm solution too early or did it poorly, no worries the instructor comes in and fixes it because they don't want to overprocess my lashes they don't leave it on that long that's fine. The student proceeds to do a poor hand massage and poor neck massage, that's fine, again learning. She then takes forever to clean up my eyes why because she applied the dye very poorly which required so much clean up that when I got up I still looked like a raccoon, that's fine, learning. I get up, my lashes didn't even curve. Not even a little bit. I'm upset obviously because I just spent 1.5 hours on this table to look EXACTLY THE SAME. The instructor comes in too explain what happened and again I get it but you didn't give me this explanation before I laid down? No disclaimers no nothing. She said okay my advisor isn't here but we want to make this right we want you to come in again and fix this. So NICOLE calls me this morning and is like I'm so sorry blah blah blah I was like okay I'll schedule my next appt, the instructor had mentioned complimentary. She's like no most we can do is 20% off, I was like alright please kindly leave me alone than.

Haircut- i wanted to get a trim, long layers, and face framing strands. I loved my haircut but it took much longer than i expected. I saw the reviews and people have said it took long so I made sure to have an ample amount of time, I was just starving haha. I appreciated the students for being so diligent and careful with the service. Instructors definitely knew what they were doing and checking the haircut. Would I come back? Yes i would. For the price, its for a good cause, and close to where i live!

It really helped me be comfortable with going through with the highlights since i've had awful experiences with hair salons in the past. It's clear the instructors and management treat their staff well. Leadership experts say doing that makes your employees transfer that joy to the customers. I'm also glad for the sake of the staff themselves. I'm not sure if the students want to keep their names private, so I won't share my stylist here, but she did an A grade job. She not only made me feel welcome and put extraordinary effort on my cut, she fascinated me by telling me all about what beauty school is like Unfortunately they don't take tips from cards, so I couldn't give my excellent stylist a tip. So I apologized to her for not bringing along cash. Next time I need to remember cash. Better than the chain stores at half the price and get you a welcoming and fun environment that makes feel at ease and satisfied.

One could not be happier with a decision than I am with mine to attend the Austin Immersive at Hack…read moreReactor. Like a lot of people my age, I have always been infatuated with technology and began messing around with computers and code at a young age. Over the years I have taken countless online courses but nothing ever seemed to stick. That being said I never really understood any of the deeper concepts needed to actually write meaningful code until I started the prep program for Hack Reactor. I had never heard of coding schools like this before a few years ago and never did my research until my brother in law went to a coding bootcamp in Cleveland in 2017. I was very curious about his experience and started doing my research. He had mixed reviews and was definitely overwhelmed with the pace but I was intrigued nonetheless. After a couple weeks of research and talking to admissions with multiple schools I finally decided to get started with the paid Structured Study Program provided by Hack Reactor. It was the most in-depth and fast-paced training I had ever been through. Even if you decide to go to a different school this prep program is amazing. Once I was about halfway through the SSP program I decided to take the technical interview to get into Hack Reactor and passed! After a lot of research and family discussion, I decided on the in-person immersive in Austin and it was incredible in so many ways. I was thoroughly impressed with how much the staff cared about our success and about us as people. The team was led by Linden Kueck who turned out to be as loving and helpful a teacher/leader one could ever have. I learned an unbelievable amount about computer science, data structures, algorithms and Javascript in a very, very short time but I am also very grateful for the unexpected lessons in team dynamics and soft skills like how to effectively work and communicate with other developers in the real world. Aside from the unexpected, I can't express in words how much I learned in such a short time. The pace was nothing short of insane and I was not sure I was going to remember anything that was being taught or if I was even going to finish the program. Then all of a sudden things just started to click and I was instinctively writing clean, readable code and building applications all on my own. These guys know what they are doing. After graduation, the team continued to help immensely and the career coaches were amazing as well. I interviewed for just over a month and landed a full stack engineering position in my hometown making 6 figures. The job hunt in this industry is difficult but Hack Reactor was there to help the whole way. If you are serious about coding as a career move and are looking to do it quickly, I don't see how anyone could make a better choice than the Austin campus at Hack Reactor.

I had joined the 2nd cohort at MakerSquare in fall of 2013. Prior to MakerSquare, I had tried…read morelearning Ruby and JS on my own, through countless books and online tutorials. Having completed a few guides, I realized that my ability to learn "how to code" was hindered simply by my style of learning. I love interactive q/a style learning, which is what led me to MakerSquare. Of the different programs out there, the one thing I would urge others to consider is that they place a heavy amount of weight onto prework completed (how much work you've done ahead of time) and community-fit. If you're a solo worker and not a fan of collaborative environments, you may want to consider other programs. Anyways, long story short, I would whole heartedly recommend this program. As classmates, I had former programmers, retail store workers, a professional photographer and even a former elementary teacher. Out of the program, each of the students were working as professional front-end engineers (junior developers) within weeks of graduating. So safe to say, MakerSquare has a great professional network, and they know how to teach code. The classroom environment (the location on Congress ave) was a bit cramped at times. But from what I've heard the class size is now capped at 18, vs. 30 or so when I went through. All the 'issues' I had (space constraints, less than ideal student:instructor ratio, and focus on advanced concepts (algorithms and data structures) has been completely addressed. According to the staff, Cohort 5 is operating on an almost night/day difference of curriculum than what I had. So not only do I give the program 5 stars, I would (and likely will) retake the course to take advantage of their newest curriculum.
